SORRY, SIS

Episode 5: The Mind Game

My heart was in my throat. I closed my eyes, leaning up, completely ready to taste the forbidden fruit I had spent six agonizing months planning to steal.
But the kiss never came.
Instead, the suffocating heat of Vance's grip suddenly vanished. He let go of my neck so abruptly that I stumbled forward, my palms slapping against the carpet to catch myself.
I snapped my eyes open, confused and breathless.
Vance was standing over me, adjusting the collar of his shirt. The dark, wild storm in his dark gray eyes was completely gone. In its place was a cold, calculating calmness that sent a sudden chill straight down my spine.
He wasn't panting. He wasn't trembling. He looked down at me on the floor with a slow, terrifyingly knowing look.
"Did you really think it would be that easy, Ren?" Vance asked, his voice smooth, steady, and utterly devoid of the panic from a moment ago.
I blinked, my innocent mask completely shattered by genuine shock. "What...?"
"You're not as clever as you think you are," Vance murmured, taking a slow step back and crossing his broad arms over his chest. "You think I didn't notice your foot under the table at dinner? You think I didn't see the way you staged that little trip in your bedroom last night? I was testing you."
My blood ran cold. The victorious smirk I had been holding onto all afternoon felt like ash in my mouth.
Testing me?
"I wanted to see how far you would actually go," Vance continued, his tone dangerously casual. He leaned down slightly, mirroring my posture from earlier, but this time, he was the one holding all the cards. "I wanted to see if my girlfriend’s little brother really had the nerve to drop to his knees and try to wreck her life the second she stepped out of the house. And you didn't disappoint." [1]
He was lying. He had to be lying. I had felt his pulse racing against my palm; I had seen the genuine, raw desire in his eyes just seconds ago. But the fact that he was standing there, completely composed, re-writing the narrative right in front of me, made my head spin.
He was out-playing me at my own game.
"Vance..." I started, my voice cracking as a wave of genuine, toxic frustration washed over me.
"Go clean up the juice, Ren," Vance interrupted coldly, turning his back on me and picking up the TV remote. "And the next time you feel like playing a game, remember who you're dealing with. I'm not the helpless guy you think I am."
He didn't look back at me. He just sat on the couch, completely ignoring my existence as the sports broadcast filled the room again.
I slowly stood up from the floor, my hands trembling with a toxic mix of fury, embarrassment, and an overwhelming, dangerous surge of pure obsession. He had rejected me, humiliated me, and completely flipped the script.
And god help me... it only made me want to destroy him more.

"I spent years watching the man I loved hold my sister’s hand. He was older, completely off-limits, and entirely unaware of the wreckage he caused inside me. I was ready to take my secret to the grave. But then my best friend gave me the most dangerous advice of my life: 'Stop whining and just steal him.' She didn't know the mystery man was my sister's boyfriend. But I took her advice anyway. My name is Ren, and this is the unfiltered diary of how I ruined my family for a chance at love."
