SORRY, SIS

Episode 6: Double Stakes

I was still standing in the middle of the living room, my hands shaking with a toxic mix of humiliation and pure desire, when the front door jingled open.
Maya was back.
"Ugh, traffic was an absolute nightmare!" she complained loudly, tossing her keys into the bowl by the door and kicking off her heels. She marched into the living room, pausing the moment she saw us.
The air in the room was thick enough to cut with a knife. Vance was sitting calmly on the couch, staring at the TV, while I stood a few feet away with a damp towel in my hand.
Maya’s sharp, cat-like eyes darted between the two of us. "Why is it so quiet in here? And what is that smell? Did someone spill something?"
"Ren had a little accident with some juice," Vance said smoothly, turning his head to give Maya a warm, effortless green-flag smile. "I was just telling him to be more careful. Right, Ren?"
The psychological weight of his words hit me like a slap in the face. He was daring me to say something. He was hiding behind his perfect boyfriend mask again.
I forced my lips into a sweet, innocent curve, burying the absolute fury screaming inside my chest. "Yeah, Sis. I'm just clumsy. Sorry about the mess."
"Honestly, Ren, you need to watch your step," Maya sighed, completely blind to the fact that her boyfriend had just had his hands wrapped around my neck minutes ago. She walked over to Vance, dropping onto his lap and wrapping her arms around his shoulders. "Vance, honey, can we order takeout tonight? I'm too tired to cook."
"Whatever you want, beautiful," Vance murmured, leaning up to kiss her cheek.
But as his lips pressed against her skin, his dark gray eyes locked straight onto mine over her shoulder. It was a cold, victorious glance. A reminder of who owned the house.
I clutched the wet towel so hard my nails bit into my palms. Enjoy it while it lasts, Vance, I thought, a dark, dangerous smile twisting inside my head. Because I am going to tear that mask right off your face.

The Next Morning.
I needed leverage. If Vance wanted to play chess, I was going to bring a sledgehammer. And the perfect tool for the job was currently sitting across from me at the local café, loudly slurping an iced latte.
"Wait, so you're saying the mystery guy completely rejected you?" Roxy gasped, her pink-streaked hair bouncing as she leaned across the table. "The same guy I told you to go out and conquer?!"
"He didn't just reject me, Roxy," I whispered, putting on my best performance of a heartbroken, fragile victim. I let my eyes go wide and watery. "He humiliated me. He acted like he was just... testing me. Like I was a joke to him. He thinks he's completely untouchable."
Roxy’s fist slammed onto the table, making her rings clink. "Oh, hell no! Nobody treats my bestie like a joke. What's his name? Give me his socials. I have friends in the registrar's office at the university—I can dig up his entire background by tonight."
A quiet, toxic rush of victory flooded my veins. She was walking right into my trap, completely oblivious.
"I don't want to cause trouble," I lied beautifully, lowering my gaze. "But... he used to go to State College. He always brags about his perfect record there. I just wish I knew if he was actually as perfect as he pretends to be."
"Say less," Roxy smirked, pulling out her phone and tapping rapidly on the screen. "State College? My cousin handles alumni records over there. If this guy has a single skeleton in his closet—an ex-girlfriend, a hidden scandal, a bad habit—I will find it for you."
I took a slow sip of my drink, watching her go to war for me.
Vance thought he was the master of this game because he out-smarted me in my bedroom. But he forgot one crucial detail. He is a green-flag man trying to protect a secret.
And a red flag like me has absolutely nothing left to lose.

"I spent years watching the man I loved hold my sister’s hand. He was older, completely off-limits, and entirely unaware of the wreckage he caused inside me. I was ready to take my secret to the grave. But then my best friend gave me the most dangerous advice of my life: 'Stop whining and just steal him.' She didn't know the mystery man was my sister's boyfriend. But I took her advice anyway. My name is Ren, and this is the unfiltered diary of how I ruined my family for a chance at love."
