“Taka! Good morning.” Killian says as they approach.
His clothes aren’t as fancy as what he usually wears.
“Good morning, Majesty!” Taka says.
Killian pauses for a moment before smiling. “You don't have to call me Majesty, Taka. You can call me Killian.”
Taka looks at Rowan then back at Killian before tilting his head. “But your name is Majesty.”
Killian blinks.
…
“He thinks your name is Majesty.” Rowan whispers to him.
Killian laughs. “Taka, my name isn't Majesty, it is Killian.”
Taka tilts his head the other way before looking up at Rowan. “But Captain called you Majesty before…”
“... Captain?“ Killian struggles to hold himself together.
Rowan feels his cheeks warming up.
He looks down at Taka, still holding his hand, waiting for an explanation.
Rowan lets out a breath and takes a knee.
“Taka, do you know what a title is?”
Taka shakes his head, he's never heard of such a word.
He assumes it is some type of flower.
“Titles are what some people are given to show their status. People call me Captain because I'm the leader of the Royal guard.” He pauses, gesturing towards Killian. “They call Killian Your Majesty because he is the King. Do you understand?”
Taka nods.
…
“Is Duke also a title?”
Rowan's eyes widen. “Yes…” Rowan blinks. “Why?”
Taka fidgets with his hands.
…
Not wanting to press him further, he continues.
“So instead of Captain, you can call me Rowan.” He gestures back to Killian. “And his Majesty… Killian has told you that you can call him by his name as well.”
Taka nods. ”Captain Rowan.”
Rowan lets out another breath. “Just Rowan.”
Taka giggles. “Rowan.”
Rowan smiles and nods. “Yes.”
Before climbing into the carriage, Taka insists on thoroughly inspecting the horses.
Rowan holds Taka as he pets their noses.
“Can they have a snack?” Taka looks at Rowan with pleading eyes.
Rowan pulls out two sugar cubes and places them in Taka’s already flat hand.
The horses happily take their bribe… I mean treat.
Taka is ready for the carriage ride.
“What is that?” He points.
“That is called a bench, you will be sitting next to me.” Rowan says.
Taka carefully inspects it, poking it, and feeling it.
“Sit down so you don't fall.” Rowan sits himself on the bench.
Taka takes his seat next to Rowan, while Killian sits across from them.
…
Taka peers out the window with wide eyes.
“What's that?”
“It's a bakery.”
“Oh…”
Another few seconds go by.
“What's that?”
“That's called a jewelry store.”
“Oh…”
Another few seconds pass.
“What's that?”
“That's a restaurant.”
Killian quietly chuckles. “Is it like this every time?”
Rowan sighs.
“Yes.”
…
Every time a question comes, he answers it anyway.
Usually, Rowan would spend the entire ride thinking about the bridge inspection.
Instead, he watches out the same window as Taka, waiting for the next question.
Killian listens for nearly an hour as every single one of Taka's questions is answered.
The carriage comes to a stop.
…
“Are we there?” Taka jumps up.
Killian nods. “Welcome to Juliet.”
