I can't believe that I'm packing my bags for us to leave for Beliarc, and to make it worse, my father told me two weeks ago that we are going to a union and unification ball where they are going to present my future husband, and that it's something I never imagined for myself. As the only daughter, everything I did in my life revolved around the day I would become queen; this was my destiny. Studies of combat, economy, etiquette, politics, and even the history of our old wars and conflicts with the kingdom that we are going. With this marriage they want to reinforce our trust in the peace treaty and confirm that their atrocity will never happen again. That's the way it's been for years, and that's how it must be.
We have in our history one loss that the citizens have learned to carry in their hearts, even though it happened a hundred and fifty years ago, the contempt still lives with us, and now I will have to marry a prince that if the rumors are right, he is nothing more than a mama's boy who can't see anything but his ego, exactly like his father who wears the mantle of goodness only because he knows that he can't take a chance against our forces, The best imperial guards of all time, their training gets exhausts then, rain or shine, all of it just to stay on top. And I know it all too well, I was one of them once, swearing the same oath to the sword, carrying the same weight just to prove that I can also be strong too. So now my frustration couldn't be greater.
I stop packing and open the drawer beside my bed. Inside lies the last letter I received from her. I fall onto my sheets and start reading the words, searching for some comfort.
"I have thought a lot about you these days; In every walk through the garden, or every book I read, or while admiring a landscape, your face finds me, and I think that nothing could ever compare to your beauty. You are my most precious stone and even though our love has been flowering through letters, I can feel my heart beat faster at every response I receive from you. And still, my soul gets heavy because of our distance.''
From your loved one, who will wait for you until the end of time."
Her words now only make my eyes full of tears, knowing that we can't be together anymore. That moment when I first saw her pass through my mind. A sweet memory, feeling like it was yesterday and not three years ago.
I was traveling out of the kingdom to find new potential recruits for our army in the name of my father, and that night, I found a lady that was probably my age at that time, around eighteen, beyond that she was prettier than the moon itself, when she looked at me, a shiver ran down on my whole body, I sat by her, nervously trying to start a conversation. I asked what she was doing there. She Told me that she was traveling, trying to find a rare manuscript about magic, I couldn't hide my discontentment, it was obvious where she was coming from. So, with a hint of resentment, I asked: "You practice magic?" Her smile was light and calm as she answered. It was just out of curiosity, and she knew the rules well. But her search had been in vain; she couldn't find what was looking for. She seemed interested in my purposes as well, so I explained everything, already more at ease with her presence. Then with the most amazing smile she said: "That's amazing, so you are a warrior and a pretty princess at the same time." With that, her hand landed softly over mine, that made me feel like nothing I felt before.
For that moment on, we exchanged letters. But this last one, I wasn't brave enough to answer; not even my hard training could prepare me for this. I know she's just a simple girl who believes in poetic romances. But for me, must accept my duties as princess of this land.
