The Last Survivors (Among The Legends)

CHAPTER 8

CHAPTER 8

Jul 24, 2026

Linda POV

They kept walking near me as I stood in alert for any attack. They were dressed in clothes of one color, and the color was looking very dull, unlike me, who was wearing clothes of many colors. They got to me, and the guy talked.

Him: Hi (I gave him a sign to be quiet, but he just smiled).

Him: What's your name? (And again, I gave a sign to him to shut up, at least he shouldn't know more about his village than a stranger like me).

Him: Don't be afraid to talk when you're with me; the beast will not harm you?

Me (in a voice, afraid that the beast would kill me): Are you some sort of god that the beast will not come for you?

Him: No, I will explain later... So, what's your name?

Me: Linda

Him: Wow, you have a sweet name for a beautiful lady like you (I blushed but didn't make it obvious; he sure has a sweet mouth).

Him: My name is Caleb; nice meeting you.

Me: Thank you, and yours? (Referring to the lady beside him)

Her: I'm Abigeal.

Me: Okay.

Caleb POV (Main character)

I sighted a hut at the far end of the bush.

Me: You're living in the bush.

Linda: It's a long story.

Me: Are you living alone or with a family?

Linda (sadly, as tears threatened to fall): No.

Me: Sorry.

Linda: It's nothing; you don't need to tell me sorry.

Me: Will you like to follow us to the village, or do you prefer living there (pointing my hand to the hut)?

Linda: I'll like to follow you to the village. It's not easy living alone.

Me: Okay. Go and pack all your valuable items so that we can leave here immediately.

She walked into the hut, took some of her valuable items, put them inside a backpack, and came to meet us. Her backpack is entirely different from ours, and I was convinced in my mind that she is from the city. Even her dresses are also different. We started walking to our village as me and my sister discussed in signs.

Me (signs): We are now finally free from the vampires.

Abigeal (signs): Yeah. I am happy and sad at the same time.

Me (signs): I understood you. I just pray that it's everyone of them that we killed because I won't like another vampire flying onto our roof top.

Abigeal (signs): Yes, bro.

Me (signs): I know you used to read about vampires. But how were you able to shoot those vampires without missing a target?

Abigeal (smiled) (signs): Simple. I calculated their speed and where they are going to dodge the arrow to, so I shot that spot. And I shot straight at those that are coming to me with speed because I know it will be difficult for them to dodge it.

Me (signs): Okay... So, how did you know about the power in my sword?

Abigeal (signs): I read about it and all its powers.

Me (signs): Can I get the book?

Abigeal (signs): No, because it has been destroyed by a beast. I will tell you more about it when we get home.

Me (signs): Okay, thanks.

Abigeal had been using the corner of her eyes to watch us discuss in signs. We walked silently until we got to our village. What we saw can make the strongest man faint. We saw different cracked bones and skulls of different humans littering the road. I gave them a sign to be quiet, and we headed to the way that led to our house. A beast walked past us and went into the bush, and we shivered in fear. We walked further and saw another beast eating a human right in front of us. We quietly branched and passed another way. I just hope none of us make the mistake of making noise because I am not that sure if the green stone will save us.

Me (signs): It seems as if the beast invaded here.

Abigeal (signs): I thought so because many souls are dead.

Me (signs): Yes.

Abigeal (signs): But I thought the beast can't see. How come they were able to kill many people?

Me (signs): That's the same question that remains unanswered by me... But I thought the people actually made noise before they met their end.

Abigeal (signs): My thought also.

Me (signs): The beasts must have invaded, and the people must have been scared and made noise along the line, which must have led to their death.

Abigeal (signs): Yeah, you are right.

All these while, Linda did not understand a thing. She was looking at us and her front as we walked. When we got to the front of our house, we walked in. We surveyed around the house, and it was strangely quiet. And immediately, fear engulfed me. "No, I can't lose my two parents" I thought, and I know my sister is also thinking the same. I headed to the hideout to check there and found a big stone at the entrance. Hope heat won't kill whoever is underground as I rolled the stone off quickly.

With only a handful of survivors left, Caleb must battle bloodthirsty vampires, monstrous beasts, cursed kings, and dark secrets buried for generations. Alongside his fearless sister, Abigeal, and the mysterious Linda, he embarks on a dangerous journey where every choice could mean life... or extinction.
