Rabbit awoke to knocking at the door and the voice of Grace calling out to him,
“I drew a bath for you Rabbit.”
He stood up from the bed, his brain still fuzzy from that weird dream. He could still feel where that person(?) had cupped his cheeks and where it had kissed on his forehead. Opening the door to Grace she sighed,
“Your hair is such a mess, follow me. You’ll take a bath then you can have breakfast.”
‘A-alright.” Rabbit sleepily replied following the woman.
Sinking into the tub Rabbit felt the most at peace than he probably has in his whole life. Although he didn’t know much of that life. He felt as if he was melting as he soaked in the soapy water. The only cost of this slice of heaven was letting Grace wash his hair, and that was a very small price to pay.
Grace’s back was turned and she was facing the wall as she cleaned the clothing that Rabbit had been wearing.
Rabbit heard her laughing softly, “I’ve never heard a human purr.”
After hearing that he became aware of the noise he was making, it resembled the purr of a kitten. Embarrassed, he sunk deeper into the water consciously trying to not make that noise again.
“Why did you stop, it was cute.” Grace said in a soft voice. “I didn’t mean to embarrass you.”
A few moments passed with the only noise in the room being the humming from Grace. She had left Rabbit’s clothes to soak and grabbed a fresh pair that was sitting in a cabinet within the room.
“You’ll have to tell me if these fit.” She said to him, “And once you get some money I recommend you buy some more clothes.”
“How would I make money?”
“You could always join the guild, although you will need someone to teach you to read. My skills aren’t good enough to trust myself to teach you.”
“You can’t teach me?”
“I’m afraid I'll teach you something wrong, the most I can teach would be the basics.” She closed her eyes as she placed the clothing down near the tub Rabbit was in, making sure she wouldn’t invade Rabbit’s privacy more than her being in the same room would. Don’t worry, my brother is a member of the guild so he can help you register. It’s not uncommon for the guild to get new members who can’t read.”
“...so I can work? Maybe I can actually pay it off.” Rabbit said as quietly as he could.
“Huh?”
“Nothing.” He sank as deep into the water as he could but the heaven had ended as the water had already gone cold.
