22. Reddish-blue.
“Violet?”
Edward frowns, as he saw Violet in her bare feet, walk inside from the door.
“Magic, is sure nasty!”
Violet replies, in a soft tone. Edward frowns even deeper as he was not used to her soft voice. All he heard from before was a straight voice answering important questions that needed to be answered, he continues,
“Where’s everyone?”
“They’re gone, But that’s not important, right now. Come with me we have to secure food first.”
Edward wanted to retort, but then he remembered. The state in which the other has left the room, empty and devoid of anything useful. He holds his curiosity back to question her, as his time of service had taught him survival came first, then questions.
Edward nods, showing his willingness to help.
Seeing, Edward nods in agreement. Violet hands him the plants she was holding and head towards the underground floors,
“Keep this to side, I will bring some glass that we can use as tools.”
Edward, looked at Violet’s reddish-blue hair silhouette going down stairs. A thought occur in his head … why is she here? Oh, I should reserve my questions for later. Edward shakes his head and looks at the plant in his hand.
It was a small corn shape plant, with a stem sticking out of the bottom. Small leaves sticking out from both the side of the stem. The part which looked like a small corn was covered with white cotton-like substance with multiple reddish-blue spikes stick on it pointing out.
“Willows?” Edward muttered, lightly.
Edward put’s away, the Willows to another side. As he waited for Violet’s return. In a few minutes Violet returns. She was carrying a small triangular object, as soon she stepped out of the door the light coming out of the window, reflected on the triangular object make them shine, and reflect the surroundings.
Edward eyes, lit up as he saw the reddish-blue hair ( side note: I am using another word that resembles close to Violet-colour for her hair as saying her names while describing her hair feels weird.) girl walk out of the dark corridor. It felt like twilight of dusk has return from the loneliness of night.
“You are back.” Edward greeted her.
“Are you blind? Take this.”
Violet, scolds Edward and hands him one of the triangular piece in her hand.
“Ahh… I missed your unwillingness to talk properly.” Edward took the glass with a small smile.
Violet, gets back a little and shakes her head lightly. With a deep breathe, Violet continues in her straight voice,
“Badger, I saw a Wolf hunting, a reindeer nearby, I want us to hunt it, Reason: there’s no food in here.”
“Hunt a wolf, with a Piece of glass? that barely classify as a dagger? What do you think I am, some Wonderworker? Making impossible possible? I hate to tell you, but from the cold and judging by looking outside the window, we are in somewhere in the north, and bleeding here is a slow death sentence.”
Edward rejected the idea, with proper reasoning, but then he realizes that this might be the only time they will be able to get some food. Edward opens his mouth to change his verdict, but Violet interrupts him,
“It’s an old wolf, and he is hurt badly. Probably, he got kicked out of his pack, and I am sure he will taste good.”
Edward wanted to hit himself for questioning that much, … survival first questions later, I am being more and more like Robert. Is this how he fell when he talks to me? Well, it’s not like, I stay silent like Violet, but when someone speaks, I hate to be the loudmouth.
Edward shakes his head, and says,
“Forget it, what I said. let’s go.”
A small smile appears on Violet’s face. As she leads Edward out.
……
Stepping out of the door, bright light hit both of them, Edward instinctively looked down squinty his eyes. The sun was not that high in the sky, so the reflection of light on the snow was barely manageable. Edward and Violet kept their head down squinting their eyes.
Then Edward saw a hand covered in dirt and snow, extending towards his vision, in his vision that was looking down to the ground, he grabs the hand, then hears a Violet’s voice,
“Hurry my feet will not last long in the cold.”
Edward increases his speed to match Violet’s, In less then a minute Violet stopped, Edward who was looking down crash into Violet’s back, then stops. Violet unbothered with the gesture, Violet whispers,
“Five minutes, we kill it under five minutes. If not then we run away, look at there.”
Edward, looked up still squinting his eyes. He saw the back of the wolf, it back was covered with small wounds that have been healed, but they had left him with scars. He was feasting on a dead body, the dead body was larger than his. It was of the Reindeer. Without delaying any further, Edward throws the piece of glass towards the wolf,
Zzzzt….
The old wolf let’s out a cry, Violet shocked looked at Edward, …that was meant to use for protection.
Edward didn’t wait to acknowledge Violet, who was in shock, he ran towards the old wolf. Violet follows him with some distance between them.
The old wolf, grunts in pain. It looks at the intruder, with bloodshot eyes. The wolf speeds up, to get near Edward and with a great force lunges towards Edward With speed in anger.
Edward expecting this, ducks down and turns while ducking. Facing the back of the old wolf, who had just lunged on him. He stands up and throws himself on the back of the old wolf.
The old wolf who had just landed on the ground and was turning his face towards the intruder, only to get body slammed by the intruder, but the old wolf was rather happy with the turns of event as it held advantage with his sharp jaws and claws in close range. It opens his mouth to bite Edward’s neck,
Fssssssshhh!
Blood gushing out from the center of the old wolf’s face. It’s lifeless body, stopped all it’s attempt to bite Edward’s neck.
Edward feeling no resistance, from the wolf look at it. A piece of glass thrusted in the middle of the skull. Blood oozing out of the wound, covering the old wolf’s face and making the snow beneath it’s face turn blood red. A soft voice breaks Edward concentration on the wolf’s face.
“Good work.”
