The Journey To Nowhere

Chapter 2 part 3 - Guild Registration

Chapter 2 part 3 - Guild Registration

Jul 29, 2026

The town was far more bustling during the day with people crowding the streets. Rabbit followed as close to Reed as he could to avoid getting lost in the crowd. Grace had told him that she had work, but her brother would make sure he got to the guild safe. Admittedly he still didn’t understand why Grace was treating him this familiarly, considering they had just met the night before but he wasn’t going to reject this hospitality when he didn’t have anywhere to go.

The guild hall was on the same street as the market. Many vendors were selling armor and weapons several steps outside of the building. A few would come up to Rabbit until they saw Reed and then would sheepishly walk away, apologizing under their breath. Gently grabbing Rabbit’s arm Reed walked directly to the hall’s door.

Inside the hall was even louder than the street with people chatting and drinking in groups. Reed kept holding Rabbit’s arm and brought him to one of the counters that had a girl who had what looked like cat ears.

“You’re back soon, Reed.” The girl said, smiling.

“I’m here to register this guy. He’s looking to take on some work here.”

She looked over at Rabbit, meeting his eyes. “Of course, can you pull out your Status Log?”

“Oh, sure.” Rabbit pulled it up and handed it over to the girl who looked at it with a perplexed look.

“Okay, what name do you want to put down?”

“R-Rabbit.”

“Alright,” she pulled out what looked like a quill and wrote something in the book. “Now pick a class.”

A piece of paper appeared before Rabbit with writing on it that he could only sorta read. Seeing this Reed smiled and explained.

“These are the classes you can register as.”

The classes that were listed were

Warrior, Thief, Wizard, Farmer, Archer, Warmage, Tourist, Pianist, Priest, Gunner, Inquisitor, Paladin, Witch, Executioner, and Sage Sword. Reed explained the differences and that he can always pick up a new class once he meets the criteria to have a second one. After a bit of consideration Rabbit ended up choosing the Witch class. From what Reed had explained it was one that split focus between spellcasting and crafting. He wasn’t sure why but the sound of it was more appealing than the rest of them.

“Alright, registration is complete. You should have your stats and spirit inventory updated in a second. Any books or items specific to it will appear there.”

“...how?” Rabbit asked, confused.

“No idea but that’s what happens.”

Opening up the Status Log again Rabbit saw that a page with the stats appeared and that a page with a list of items had also shown up. Although he wasn’t sure what it was, and couldn’t read most of what had now been revealed.

Reed sighed, “Mari, can you teach Rabbit how to read the Status Log, I’m going to take a new job.”

“Aye-aye Reed.” Mari grinned and escorted Rabbit to a table behind the counter before explaining the book in more detail than either Reed or Grace could.

“And that’s about it, you have a very odd Status Log,” Mari said stretching. “But even with that you’ll be able to take some jobs. Let me just get your guild ID printed.”

“Is there anything else I need to know?”

“Just that you need to remember to pay your guild dues by the end of each month and to pay your yearly taxes.”
“Dues and yearly taxes.”
“Yeah, the dues are 5-10G a month depending on ranking, but new members don't have to pay until the second year of membership. Taxes depend on how much income you have, the guild will handle that unless you open up a shop.”
“What happens if I miss a payment?”

“The dues will get added to the next month’s with 5% interest, and you don’t want to find out what happens if you don’t pay taxes.” She got distracted by something and handed Rabbit what looked like a card. “This is your ID, you’ll use it whenever you’re asked to identify yourself or when requesting a job at a different guild hall. The job board is near the bar. Just look through them when you get around to it. If you need anyone to read them just ask me.”

“A-alright, thank you.” Rabbit bowed and let himself be escorted out of the room.
