Twilight Without End

Chapter Five : The Birth

Chapter Five : The Birth

Jul 30, 2026

The husband wasted no time leading the way.

Aries and Lotte followed him through the crowded streets until they arrived at a modest clinic tucked away from the town square. Compared to the Great Physician’s Clinic, the building was plain and weathered, yet the scent of medicinal herbs lingering in the air revealed that it had served the townspeople for many years.

The man stopped abruptly before the entrance.

“My lord,” he said between uneven breaths, “my spouse is inside.”

“They accepted him after the others turned us away, but…” His voice faltered. “They said there was only so much they could do.”

Aries lifted his gaze toward the building.

“There are physicians inside?”

“Yes.”

The man nodded.

“Two of them. They specialize in male Omega childbirth.”

He lowered his head.

“But even they admitted they may not be enough.”

For a brief moment, Aries remained silent.

Then, without another word, he stepped inside.

The familiar scent of herbs, alcohol, and dried flowers greeted him the instant he crossed the threshold. Patients occupied several wooden benches while apprentices hurried through the corridors carrying basins of water and bundles of medicinal plants.

Somewhere deeper within the building, muffled cries echoed through the halls.

His footsteps slowed.

A dull ache spread through his temples.

Suddenly—

Fragments of unfamiliar memories surfaced.

A younger Aries sat beneath the warm glow of an oil lamp, surrounded by towering stacks of medical texts. Every page was filled with meticulous notes written in elegant handwriting.

Another memory followed.

An elderly physician stood before a group of apprentices, carefully explaining the anatomy of male Omegas while the young Aries listened with unwavering concentration.

”Knowledge without compassion is meaningless.”

”A physician must understand the body before attempting to heal it.”

The memories shifted again.

Countless anatomical sketches.

Sleepless nights spent studying.

Long hours assisting physicians in nearby villages.

The original Aries had devoted years to medicine—not because he had been ordered to, but because he genuinely wished to become a physician.

The memories slowly faded.

“…So that’s why.”

“My lord?”

Lotte looked at him with concern.

“Did you remember something?”

“A few things.”

He glanced toward her.

“Lotte.”

“Yes?”

“You knew I studied medicine.”

It wasn’t a question.

She smiled knowingly.

“I wondered when you’d remember.”

“You kept it hidden from almost everyone.”

“Almost?”

“The Duke knew.”

Aries raised an eyebrow.

“And he allowed it?”

“He never stopped you. As long as your studies didn’t interfere with your duties, His Grace simply pretended not to notice.”

“My brothers?”

“They never found out.”

“You were always careful.”

Her smile softened.

“I accompanied you whenever you visited nearby villages to treat patients.”

“You even earned a Royal Physician’s Certification nearly four years ago.”

Aries blinked.

“I did?”

“You passed the examination with distinction.”

She let out a quiet laugh.

“That is why I wasn’t surprised when you offered to help today.”

Her expression gradually turned puzzled.

“What surprised me was your willingness to assist in a male Omega delivery.”

Aries fell silent.

So even the original Aries had only studied the procedure.

He had mastered the theory.

Observed experienced physicians.

Memorized every step.

Yet he had never personally performed one.

How… intriguing.

Before either of them could continue, two physicians emerged from one of the inner rooms.

The younger of the two immediately brightened upon seeing him.

“Lord Aries.”

Relief was evident in his voice.

“I’m grateful you came.”

The older physician inclined his head respectfully.

“When we heard you had awakened, we feared it was merely another rumor.”

“It is good to see you standing again.”

Neither man regarded him with suspicion.

Nor did they show the fear he had grown accustomed to receiving from others.

Instead, they welcomed him as a fellow physician.

Aries found the change… refreshing.

“I am Edwin,” the younger physician introduced himself.

“This is Master Roland.”

“We’ve worked alongside you before.”

Aries offered a slight nod.

“My memories remain incomplete.”

“I hope you’ll forgive me if I fail to remember.”

“There is nothing to forgive,” Roland replied kindly.

“Right now, our patient needs us far more than old acquaintances.”

His expression became solemn.

“The labor began before sunrise.”

“We’ve stabilized the parent several times, but the birth passage refuses to remain open.”

Edwin continued.

“We’ve already exhausted nearly half our mana.”

“If this continues…”

He lowered his gaze.

“We may lose both parent and child.”

Silence settled over the room.

Aries listened without interruption.

Then another memory surfaced.

A lecture.

A diagram illustrating the anatomy unique to male Omegas.

”Do not force mana against the body’s natural flow.”

”Guide it.”

”The body will always respond better to harmony than resistance.”

The memory vanished as quickly as it had appeared.

Aries looked toward the closed door leading to the operating room.

“…Take me to the patient.”

The two physicians exchanged hopeful glances before stepping aside.

Without another word, Aries entered the operating room.

Somewhere deep within him…

The physician he had once been—and the physician the original Aries had struggled to become—seemed to move as one.

The room fell silent.

The patient struggled to remain conscious, his breathing uneven as another wave of pain coursed through his body. Beads of perspiration clung to his forehead while trembling hands gripped the sheets beneath him.

“How long has the labor continued?”

“Since dawn,” Edwin answered. “We’ve managed to stabilize him several times, but the birth passage refuses to remain open.”

“We’ve nearly exhausted our mana,” Roland added quietly.

“At this rate…”

There was no need for him to finish.

Aries rested two fingers lightly against the patient’s wrist.

Then—

The translucent image appeared once again.

Countless luminous lines unfolded before his eyes, revealing muscles, blood vessels, organs, and the intricate flow of mana throughout the patient’s body.

“…Interesting.”

“My lord?”

Aries lifted his head.

“Tell me.”

“Yes?”

“Do either of you notice anything unusual?”

The two physicians exchanged puzzled glances.

“…No.”

So only he could see it.

A dangerous thought crossed his mind.

If that mysterious vision truly revealed every detail hidden beneath the surface…

Then perhaps one day, he could unravel every secret of this world’s anatomy.

The thought was absurd.

And yet…

Irresistibly fascinating.

Curiosity could wait.

A physician’s first responsibility was always the patient before him.

As the memories inherited from the original Aries resurfaced, the procedure became clearer.

Unlike female childbirth, a male Omega could not deliver a child naturally. Before the birth could begin, a physician had to perform a specialized magical ritual, temporarily creating a safe passage through which the child could be delivered.

It was an intricate technique.

One that ordinarily required several physicians working together to stabilize the flow of mana.

Aries quietly examined the formation prepared by Edwin and Master Roland.

“…I see.”

He finally understood why they had been struggling.

The ritual itself wasn’t wrong.

It was simply inefficient.

“Please step back.”

The two physicians stared at him.

“My lord?”

“I’ll perform the ritual.”

Roland frowned.

“Alone?”

Aries nodded.

“There’s no time to argue.”

A heavy silence settled over the room.

After a brief hesitation, Edwin and Roland slowly stepped back.

Lotte watched anxiously from the corner.

The patient’s husband held his breath.

Aries closed his eyes.

Mana answered his call like a calm current flowing through his body.

The magic circle beneath the bed shimmered to life.

Soft blue light gradually illuminated the room.

Edwin’s eyes widened.

“…Impossible.”

Roland stood frozen.

“That amount of mana…”

“No single physician should be capable of sustaining a ritual of this scale.”

Yet Aries remained perfectly composed.

Controlling the flow of mana felt strangely natural, as though this body had practiced the technique countless times before.

The ritual responded without resistance.

Slowly…

A stable passage was formed.

“There.”

Aries opened his eyes.

“You may proceed.”

The two physicians immediately resumed their work.

This time, their movements were steady.

Confident.

Only minutes later—

A newborn’s cry broke the silence.

Relief swept through the room.

The father collapsed to his knees, tears streaming freely down his face.

“…Thank you.”

“Thank you… thank you so much.”

Edwin immediately examined the exhausted parent before releasing a long breath.

“They’re both stable.”

Roland slowly lowered his head.

“…A miracle.”

“No,” Aries replied quietly.

“Simply the result of understanding what the body needed.”

Neither physician spoke again.

They simply looked at him with undisguised amazement.

Aries paid little attention to their expressions.

Instead, his gaze remained fixed on the healthy newborn resting peacefully beside the exhausted parent.

Healthy.

Stable.

Alive.

He quietly removed his gloves.

Male Omega anatomy…

Unlike anything modern medicine had ever documented.

A faint smile touched the corner of his lips.

There was still so much left to learn.

TO BE CONTINUED…

War forged him into a brilliant physician—one who saved lives as often as he dissected them in pursuit of knowledge. Feared for his cold logic and unsettling curiosity, Mikhail believed that every human body held answers waiting to be uncovered.

Death should have been the end.

Instead, he awakens in the body of 'Aries Cain de Lelouche', the forgotten son of one of the most powerful noble houses in a world ruled by magic, political intrigue, and the rigid hierarchy of Alphas, Betas, and Omegas.

With no desire to become a hero and even less interest in noble politics, Aries seeks only to understand the unfamiliar world he now inhabits. Yet the more he uncovers about House Lelouche, the more he realizes that beneath its elegant façade lies a web of secrets, betrayals, and tragedies waiting to surface.

Armed with the knowledge of a modern physician and a mind that remains unnervingly calm in the face of chaos, Aries begins walking a path that was never meant to be his.

Some will call him a genius.

Others will mistake him for a monster.

But one thing is certain—

The twilight of this world has only just begun.
