A Thorn of Love

5. A New Beginning

5. A New Beginning

Aug 17, 2026

“I am the main staff of the house.” The woman said.

Minwoo again stared at her before speaking, “I meant introduction.” he said, “Please introduce yourself to me.”

The woman blinked, “I am Byun Sohee.” She said, “I am head of the staff in this house. If you need something you can instruct me.”

Minwoo nodded, “Alright. Then please arrange some food for me.” He instructed her.

Sohee bowed and turned towards what Minwoo assumed was the kitchen. He again started looking around, the dining area had a huge bar area with cabinets full of liquor that his one year of salary couldn’t buy. The long dining table had ten chairs, but he knew nobody ate here.

Right in front of him across the room were glass doors and he was pretty sure there was an infinity pool. The staircase was on the right behind the dining area, but he decided to go only after eating.

“Samo-nim…” Sohee called him and he saw plates were being put down by someone.

Minwoo sat on one of the chairs tucked to the dining table. However, when he saw the food he frowned, “This is only clear soup and salad.” He looked up to her. “There is no rice or meat?”

Sohee looked surprised, “Samo-nim, you maintain a strict diet of no rice or meat.”

“Is that so?” He sighed, “But right now I need to eat meat and rice, so bring that please.”

His instruction was not ignored, in a few minutes a bowl of rice and a plate full of bulgogi appeared on the table. Minwoo ate two bowls of rice, two plates of bulgogi, two bowls of soup and finished off with the salad.

“Now this is a meal.” He said as he felt strength finally coming back to his legs.

The staff were staring at him with their mouth and eyes wide. As the hunger subsided and he could finally feel the urge to speak, he asked them, “Do you guys live here?”

“We leave by eight in the evening.” Sohee answered.

Minwoo nodded, “All right. I am heading upstairs, call me when lunch is ready.”

“But Samo-nim…” Sohee interrupted him, “You don’t usually have lunch.”

He stopped in this track, “Well I will have from now on. Please get it ready.” Then turned to leave.

Minwoo didn’t waste any time and started climbing the stairs. The second floor’s surface was made of wood unlike the ground floor which was marble. He looked around to find on his right there were three doors, and on his left there were at least five doors.

He was not really in a mood to explore, so he walked through the corridor and opened the first large door. To his surprised, it was empty, no, not just empty, uninhabited. There was not any furniture, except for the bed.

“This looks like a master bedroom.” He mumbled, “So they don’t sleep together huh.” He closed the door. Beside the master bedroom there was another door, and he opened it to find it was not empty.

The room was pretty big and had furniture, but Minwoo felt his eyes burning at the bright yellow wallpaper, and the bed cover was also the worst shade of blue.

“Baek Jian had a terrific colour choice.” He said, but he didn’t have any time to think about all these. His eyes were burning from lack of sleep. So he fell on the bed and covered himself with the blanket then fell asleep.

His sleep broke at the knock on the door.

For a moment he didn’t know where he was. He genuinely thought he was on Dohyun’s bed. Then the memories started flooding in and he sat up straight.

“Sam-nim…” The person behind the door said.

Minwoo opened the door half asleep and said, “Yes?”

Sohee was standing there, “Samo-nim…lunch.” She said, “You asked to be woken up for lunch.”

“Yes.” He said, “I am coming.”

He closed the door and then opened the closet to change his clothing into something comfortable. Yet the moment he opened the closet door he was almost blinded by the bright yellow.

“What in the world?” Minwoo mumbled, “Baek Jian’s choice of clothing is very suitable for him, but I absolutely cannot wear those.” He shut the door and left the room.

He was walking through the corridor towards the stairs when he saw the dining table from the up. Byun Sohee was taking pictures of the plates of food on the table and then fiddled with his phone afterwards. When she registered that he was coming downstairs she quickly hid the phone in her pocket and pretended to stand normally.

Minwoo walked over and sat down on the chair, the food was fine, just as he had instructed. He grabbed the spoon and picked a spoonful of broth from the Sogogi Muguk, “Nice.” He complimented.

He ate in silence for a few minutes before saying, “You must have a lot of followers on Instagram?”

“Pardon?” Byun Sohee blinked.

Minwoo smiled but didn’t reply, only continued to eat.

After finishing his lunch Minwoo felt more and more uncomfortable in these hospital clothes, yet he didn’t want to touch the clothing he had in his closet.

“Please get someone to empty my closet. I want to put my new clothes there.” He told one of the staff yet as he entered his room, he realised he had no money. He didn’t ask Dohyun about money to buy the clothing. Though he was sure Baek Jian would not have the shortage of it.

So he started checking the drawers of the wardrobes, and after checking a few, he found a large diary sort of. Inside there were pages but the cover had compartments. There were cards inside those compartments, four credit cards, four debit cards. The passwords and other details were neatly written in the diary.

He opened the banking app and entered the card details from the diaries. His eyes widened when he logged into his bank account and saw his available balance was nearly eight billion won, divided into four account that he could access with the debit card.

Apparently, the credit card access was higher, he could easily spend hundreds of million won without asking for anyone’s permission.

“What the fuck?” Minwoo whispered.
