Yellowrose's Prophecy

Prologue

Prologue

Aug 03, 2026

Mistypelt looked around her at the landscape full of nothing but stars. She could immediately guess she was dreaming, though she’d never seen a dream quite like this. Glancing down she realized there wasn’t even ground beneath her paws, just more stars. She pressed her paws down, wondering why she hadn’t fallen. It was like she was sitting on something invisible. Or on the night sky itself.

Mistypelt looked up, distracted from her surroundings, when she noticed a figure approaching from the distance. She squinted at them, trying to make out who was coming to speak with her. The figure grew closer. Mistypelt’s eyes widened as she started to recognize who this was. The starry she-cat stopped in front of her.

“Blacksky?” Mistypelt breathed, “so you did die?”

The black and red she-cat nodded solemnly. Mistypelt sat back for a moment. Her clan mates had presumed her dead for moons, but no one had known for sure. Guess now they could.

“But what happened? Where did you go?” Mistypelt blurted.

Blacksky’s gaze quickly darted away and her tail curled around her hind legs. Why did she look… almost guilty?

Blacksky shook her head and composed herself, standing up straight, “That’s not important now. I come to you with a prophecy. One that may affect all the clans”

She closed her eyes and before Mistypelt could interject they shot open again. A blinding white light poured out of them. Mistypelt shielded her eyes with her arm. Though it didn’t do much to block the light as it swallowed everything around them. Then after a few moments the light faded. Revealing that the scenery had now changed around Mistypelt.

This was the thunderpath on the edge of Windclan territory. Even in her dream, she could practically smell the stench of monsters and her own clan's scent markers. But why was she here? She noticed a yellow rose growing right at the edge of the thunderpath. Its petals still closed in a bud.

“When the rose blooms,” Blacksky's voice spoke, coming from everywhere at once. The rose blossomed in time with the words, its petals spreading out wide.

The voice continued, “The era of darkness will fall.”

When the rose blooms, the era of darkness will fall. Mistypelt repeated to herself. She sat quietly, waiting to see if there would be something more. But there was nothing. That was the entire message!

Mistypelt stood up and searched the landscape around her, “Blacksky, wait!”

The dream could end any second, but there was so much she still wanted to ask. She couldn’t just let it end here. When she’d fully turned around, however, she stopped. The scene behind her was disintegrating. What was supposed to be miles of moor had disappeared into nothingness. And the rest of the land was rapidly following suit. It was already too late. Defeated Mistypelt sat back down beside the rose. Taking in whatever information she could before everything vanished.

Mistypelt slowly opened her eyes. She’d woken up back in her nest in the medicine den. The familiar scent of herbs welcomed her. She sat up, playing the dream and the prophecy over and over in her mind. She couldn’t begin to guess what it meant. Not yet anyway. But what she wished she knew was if she was supposed to do something now or simply wait. As she thought, one odd detail kept springing up in her mind.

Why was she by the thunderpath of all places? It didn’t seem to have anything to do with the prophecy or even the rest of the dream. It was so arbitrary. Unless…

Mistypelt got out of her nest and brushed past the vines leading out of the medicine den, hurrying for the camp entrance. She had to be sure.

“When the rose blooms, the era of darkness will fall.”

Those are the words the small golden kit heard when she was brought to Wind clan. After being abandoned by her owners, she thought this would just be a nice new home. But that’s not what they’d planned.

Now she must learn to adjust to this new life all while dozens of eyes watch her expectantly. Can she really be as great as her prophecy suggests? Or will she end up disappointing everyone? Will this ever feel like home?
