We reached the capital city by evening, the ride being rather uneventful. I spent most of my time talking with Lucia, catching up on his recent adventures, sleeping and reading about magic and spellcasting with a book that was probably far more advanced than what I should use.
Then we finally arrived at the beautiful city of Boan. The giant capital was the biggest city I had seen thus far; the city was built with fine stone roads, lavish homes and at the centre of it all, there was a giant castle towering over the rest of the city.
The capital was brimming with people, the Sapphire Star event bringing people from all over the world. It's not even crazy to believe that the child is seen almost like a Messiah; I can already picture what he'd look like.
Our Clarence moved slowly through the city, struggling more with the road due to traffic than with navigating.
"...Never thought traffic would hit in another world..."
For the first time, I actually agree with the voice. Wait, did I even have a car??
"The capital sure is beautiful", Lucia murmured.
"I can never seem to get enough of it when I go around it, even when I was at school here".
"Lucia, where's your school??", I questioned.
"Ah, I doubt you'd be able to see it; it's to the east from here". Then he pointed outside the Clarence’s window, to our right-hand sign, where, by tracing his hands with my eyes, I could tell he was also pointing slightly upwards.
There, the peak of a building stood, and a giant silver bell could barely be seen. "That bell is situated at the centre of the school compound".
While the giant bell could barely be seen from here, that only applied to those with normal sight. In fact, I could see through the buildings blocking my path and gaze upon the lavish school easily.
The extent of my vision now spanned half a mile and allowed me to see a full mile if I poured my mana into it, so I could easily see the lavish school, hustling and bustling with students of all races: humans, Elves, Beastmen, Centurians and even the Demon kind.
We finally made our way to a deeper region of the capital, closer to the central castle, where a smaller estate was seemingly prepped for our arrival.
The small yet beautiful medieval homes were arranged nearly perfectly. We went further into the estate, catching glimpses of other empires settling in, and then we made it to the home reserved for us.
The few servants that came along with us quickly carried our boxes inside, and we followed not long after. While the house was rather small, at least from what we were used to, there were still three rooms coupled with a rather mundane open kitchen.
"Alright, there are about three rooms here, including a kitchen. We're not cooking, so we have no business with it. All you have to do is shower and dress up", my father instructed.
"I and your mother will head into this room", he said while pointing behind him. "Damian and Lucia, head into the room to my right and get ready there".
Then he turned to the servants, Patricia in particular, and said, "You guys should take the third room and get ready, help Damian if he needs it. We're to be out in an hour".
With that, he walked away, and everyone followed along. It didn't take long for Lucia and Lucia to take turns bathing and begin dressing.
We were given what looked like clean black on black tuxedos; they were adorned with numerous golden brooches, then Lucia called, "Hey Damian, catch".
I turned around and swiftly caught a small golden object; it was a badge. It had something carved into it: "Damian Simmons, Second-born son of the Vulture's Empire".
"Ohh, neat".
I attached the badge to my right side, dressed my hair in the mirror and snatched my brother's perfume. Not long afterwards, I stepped out to see my mother.
She was now clad in a stunning black dress coupled with black gems and a long black scarf. Coming outside at the same time, my father walked out also wearing the same black tuxedo as ours.
My mother walked over to me and bent down a bit before pinching my cheek. "Damian looks so cute, look at him with his little suit".
"Come on, Mom, it hurts".
"Oh come on, you are my baby boy. I won't be giving you this much attention for much longer, so you better enjoy it", she replied sheepishly.
“What does that mean?”
Lucia came out not long after, and we finally set out. We advanced on foot to the castle; the streets were slightly crowded but weren't overbearing.
Empires were supposed to go into the main castle and enjoy the event; two servants would accompany the empires and help around when instructed. This role was probably given to Havard and Patricia.
We eventually reached and passed the stunning golden gates of the castle, where we had to show our I.D's to some of the security guards before we were allowed entrance.
The inner estate was the largest I'd ever seen; the size of the outside and inner estate was probably close to a quarter of the whole Capital city.
This merely attests to the power of the number one ranked empire, The Marvellous Empire. Unlike most empires that reside and help build towns, this one managed to build a city. Their large numbers, powerful servants and even more skilled leaders have brought a sense of strong law and order.
The leader of this Empire is said to be Juhai Home. I even read that he may be half Centurian, which is why he has silky white hair. I wonder if I’ll get to see him too.
The Sapphire Star will most likely choose to join this empire, but it’s never completely set in stone; empires bring different things to the table.
The estate shone brightly in the evening darkness; mana tech lights made it almost seem like there were light bulbs from the real world.
I won't even be surprised if someone from my world was the cause of this.
We finally made our way inside, where my parents and brother were quickly served some drinks and greeted by different people, some I believed to be fellow empire leaders and perhaps some politicians.
I basically had to step aside and let them do what they wanted to. We walked around the banquet being greeted and greeting people; this rather boring section of things only managed to tire my legs and back.
Lucia eventually turned to me, probably noticing my deadpan stare and said, "Hey Damian, wanna leave and go chill somewhere else?"
I quickly nodded and was about to walk away when my dad said, "Lucia? Where you off to? You have to be here as the first son; Damian is free to go, though".
“Just don’t get into trouble".
Lucia's expression fell a bit, and all I could do was give him a small smile before nodding at my dad and leaving him behind.
I went to one of the booths and got myself some apple juice, which was what was available to kids. Then I leaned on a pillar in an attempt to rest my feet since the stupid party had all the seats currently taken.
“Ahh, my legs”.
I scanned around the banquet with my eyes, Mr.Hume’s family and the fat hamster leisurely resting on the magician's head.
That's when I noticed a sum of mana pass by me. While my eyes allowed me to look into mana and view people's cores, I also obtained a crude way of sensing large sums of mana.
Trying to hide my startled expression, I looked up and saw the back of a man. He was tall, almost seven feet, with void black hair and pale white but almost scale-like skin.
Looking into his mana core, I almost thought my eyes were wrong. While he only had one mana affinity, fire, his mana core didn't show any rings.
You need at least one ring around your core in order to use magical elements, so where were his rings?
Before I could even come up with a theory, the man's now visible crimson eyes shot backwards.
Looking straight at me.
