Do we remember love?

Pt2: September 8, 2023

Pt2: September 8, 2023

Aug 10, 2026

The wind blew her hair towards me, while her lips started to become my main focus. Once her mouth was inches away from my face, she looked down to my lips and back up to my eyes.

“You can pay me another way~”

WHATTTTTTTT????, flooded my mind.

I took a step back while looking at her with confusion.

She also takes a step back away from me, while covering her mouth to try concealing her laughter.

“No no no I’m sorry.” she says trying to control her breathing. “You should’ve seen the look on your face. I definitely saw you puckering your lips up!”

Hearing her laughing even harder, I exhale while hitting my hand on face after getting a near stopping heart attack from a tease.

“I’m going home.”

“No… wait.” she said, still trying to control her words.

I didn’t want to be there anymore, I was sleepy, burnt out, hungry, exhausted, and cramping up from the hips down.

Yet, seeing the way she carried herself and laughing at the fact she almost gave me the wrong idea, it made me feel a bit better about staying here a little longer.

“I’m sorry for forgetting to tell you where to meet up. It totally slipped my mind.”

Was it really that forgettable for you to say where exactly to meet up?

“I wanted to say thank you for trying to find me.”

I never once talked to a girl this long before, nor in a 1 on 1 conversation like this. So hearing her thank me was a warm feeling that I’ve never really felt before.

“Don’t worry about it. I just wanted to make sure you didn’t get the wrong idea about me.” I told her.

I grabbed my backpack as my body started shaking from the lack of nutrients.

Seeing me, she grabbed her spoon from the cake and scooped up the piece she had scooped before.

“Here, please take it.” she said, extending it to me.

I’m no nutritionist, but I was pretty sure a piece of chocolate cake wasn’t going to help me in any other way than making me more fat.

“Are you sure?” I asked her, secretly drooling.

“Yeah! You can have the whole thing if you want.”

Intentionally, I grabbed her hand to help her direct the spoon to my mouth. I chomped the piece down in my mouth as I gave her a “how do you like that” look.

“Aww, you're so cute.”

I choked on the cake for a full second before gaining my composure back. She secretly looks away again to hide her laughter from me.

“What was that for!” I asked her.

“Hmmm.” she said.

Out of nowhere, she leaned over me and kissed me on my cheek. This time she really got into my head, and there was no way for me to get her out.

“I’m sorry for today, let me make it up to you.” She said, pulling out a tiny piece of paper that seemed to have been torn up from a sticky note. “Here, it's my number.”

She scrunched the tiny paper into a ball and turned away from me. After hearing the sound of cake being mushed, she turned back around.

“It’s in here, you have to eat the cake slowly and carefully if you don’t want to ruin the note.”

“What? Why did you do that?” I asked her.

She looked up in the air, with her fingers on her chin.

“Hmm, why did I do that?”

STOP MESSING WITH MEEEE!!, I thought in a tired tone.

I just want to see if you would either eat the cake carefully and find the paper or not care at all.”

“Why? Why would you need to test me on that? I know we just met but you're giving someone who doesn’t even know you, let alone know how to talk to a girl properly, have your number.”

She looks at her wrist with a shocked look.

“Oh no! would you look at the time! I have to start heading home.” Obviously avoiding me, she speedwalks down the sidewalk as she grabs what seems to be a purple backpack from the floor. “I’ll be waiting for your message…”

“Are you even listening to a word I’m saying?!?!” I said in a frustrated tone. She kept walking away from me, giving me no explanation. I started to think she was just teasing me after all.

Feeling defeated, I started walking in the opposite direction from her. I wished she would say something to any of my questions, even if it was a dumb one.

Was this day really worth it?

“Miles!” The girl yells from afar, about 40 yards away.

I looked back, she was very tiny and I could barely tell her apart. But hearing her voice gave me a sense of happiness.

“What!”

She stops for a moment. I waited while looking at her, hoping for her response.

“THANK YOU, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR FINDING MEEEE“

After saying that, she runs down the hill of the street until she disappears from my view.

I waited a sum of 2 hours and a half for her. Not to mention I was hanging on to the possibility of still being there. Any normal kid with a clear head would wait a maximum of one hour and leave the park immediately. There was no point in me staying there. Having no sense of direction, reliability, or chance of ever finding her at the park, it was better for me just to leave. And so I stayed. Because even with all the odds stacked against me and the blaring truth of how I look, with any chance a person gives me to believe in them, even if it's closer to none, I'd take it in a heartbeat. Why? Because if there was any small chance of having something so precious be given to you, as long as you believe in it, who wouldn't believe? Waiting for her at that park, not knowing if she'd ever arrive, was me believing in that chance. The chance that I too can have something as precious as her.

End journal entry 2.
