Overlay:

A pattern woven on the subatomic level and overlayed on to a person. It is an illusion so real that it effectively, though temporally, becomes reality. If done incorrectly it will cause extreme instability due to conflict with the underlying quantum pattern; if the topography of the two patterns are incompatible it creates too much of a conflict.

Folding:

One body, multiple forms. How many depends on the person, or – more commonly – the species. To understand, imagine a piece of paper with a colour on one side and a different colour on the other. The paper is folded in the shape of an animal, but done so in a way that when it is turned inside out it turns into the shape of a person, or another animal.

This can be very tricky to get right and can cause problems, or (as is the case for the Kwere) just be excruciatingly painful.

Rapid genetic flip/activation:

This is most commonly seen in those who are of mixed species. It can cause immense nerve pain and is generally a threat response of some kind; the activating genetics are suited (physically speaking) to dealing with the threat. Whether or not the changes remain can vary.

Fluidity:

Turning into mist/fog/clouds and then reassembling into another form. Dragons are the ones most commonly using this method.
