A Thorn of Love

9. Autonomy of Self

9. Autonomy of Self

Aug 31, 2026

Apparently, the shop he had visited yesterday had saw his post and put it on their story with a thank you message. The shop was famous for their clothing standard and a lot of their followers liked Minwoo’s clothing combination.

He opened the comment section and saw comments that mostly looked like this:

I never thought about combining omega and beta clothing! This looks so good!

I am an omega and I found omega clothing very restrictive, but I never had the courage to shop from beta section. Will definitely try!

Gosh I had no idea blue, and beige can go together like this! It’s incredible!

You are so beautiful omg why do I not see people like you on the cover of magazines?

Minwoo liked all comments and uploaded a story thanking everyone for following him. He then closed the app and put earbuds in his ears and started playing a song, he opened the dresser and there was a packet of cigarette and a lighter inside.

He had bought it yesterday, though he was not a chain-smoker, the cigarette helped him concentrate.

He opened the balcony door and came outside. The view of the penthouse was beautiful; one could get drunk from this. Minwoo lit a stick and put it in his mouth, as the nicotine finally reached his head, he finally found the sanity he thought he was losing for the past few days.

Technically, Minwoo should have been in the asylum by now. Yet, he had been suppressing the panic in his mind very carefully. The sole reason was panicking would not get him anywhere. He had died, his body was cremated, there was a funeral. Then he woke up in this body, the body of Baek Jian five years later.

Though some cosmic coincidence this omega was Seo Dohyun’s spouse. The Seo Dohyun under whom he used to work as a clerk back then. The Seo Dohyun with whom he also shared a bed and a relationship. Even if Dohyun didn’t think of it as anything Minwoo loved him, he still did.

He puffed out a smoke from his mouth, transmigration, he thought. He couldn’t really deny it anymore, this was transmigration, the writing trope that the people in the forum was talking about. This was happening to him in real life.

In these four days of his transmigration, living inside Baek Jian’s body he had a lot of questions about the world. However, he decided to ask the most important ones.

1.      Who was Baek Jian?

2.      Why was the head of Dohyun’s household staff monitoring Baek Jian’s food?

3.      Why Dohyun was so downright cold to the spouse he married for five long years?

He hoped he would get answers when he would attend Seoa’s birthday banquet two weeks later. Which reminded him he had to look for gym around him and at least get back some shape, perhaps a taekwondo class as well to get back to shape.

The cigarette was finished; he took in in the bathroom and flushed it in the toilet. Then laid on the bed to find a good gym online. He probably had to join a celebrity gym otherwise there wouldn’t be any security, unisex would also work.

After searching for a whole hour, reading reviews, calling and texting multiple places he finally fixed a gym and a taekwondo class. It was a celebrity gym, famous for training K-pop idols and excellent diet plans. The Taekwondo class was in the same building as well; the gym owner vouched for the quality of the class.

Minwoo fixed an appointment for the noon and quickly got ready and headed upstairs. Seojoon was right beside the door and quickly accompanied him to the car.

“Where are we going to day?” The beta asked.

Minwoo showed him the gym’s address, “Here.”

He wordlessly gave the chauffeur the address.

The building was not luxurious, but it looked tasteful, they were taken to an office and was told to wait. Minwoo and Seojoon both waited together. A few minutes later the door opened and a person entered.

“Oh?” Minwoo was astonished to see the person, “Ju Hyunsik?” He whispered.

In front of him was standing the former Olympian, a heavy weight wrestler. Though now he was walking with the help of a crutch, and his body was not that was a wrestler anymore.

He now understood why this gym was so famous among the entertainment industry. They all wanted to train under a former Olympian. Minwoo didn’t know he had retired because of injury, five years ago before his death he saw this alpha winning a silver medal on behalf of South Korea.

“Good Afternoon.” Ju Hyunsik greeted them.

“Good Afternoon. I am Baek Jian.” Minwoo still felt uneasy to introduce himself using someone else’s name, “I called for the joining.”

“I see.” Ju Hyunsik sat on his chair and handed him a tablet, “Please fill this form.”

Minwoo took the pen and started filling the form. He had brought his medical records already from the hospital, thankfully Jian was a very organised person and very serious about his heat cycles and suppressants which he kept a detailed track of in his diary. Minwoo could access it even without Jian’s phone.

He filled the form and Hyunsik checked everything, then said, “I will put you in the 5:30 am slot as you have requested but the majority of people are alpha there, I hope you will be comfortable.”

“That’s not an issue.” Minwoo replied.

The form of filled the payment was done. They bid good bye to each other and took the lift to upstairs to the Taekwondo classroom.

As he pushed the door opened, his eyes fell on the ongoing class. He was once again stunned to find the instructor.

“May I help you?” Said Kim Jaewook. The famous MMA fighter and the first omega of the country to win a belt. Though he retired before Minwoo died.

“I am here for the Taekwondo sign up?” Minwoo said.

“Oh you are the one referred by Hyunsik?” Kim Jaewook smiled, “Then you don’t need to fill the form. I will pull your data from him. I will put you in the 8am slot of the morning will it help?” He asked.

Minwoo nodded.

“Good then. I will text you once I sign you up.” Jaewook went back to his classes.

As Minwoo exited the building to his car, he finally understood why this very simple gym and Taekwondo centre was so famous.

In a society where Alphas stand at the top, Betas remain invisible, and Omegas are born to obey, Beta Han Minwoo never believed someone like Seo Dohyun could ever truly belong to him.

Seo Dohyun is South Korea's youngest and most celebrated Alpha prosecutor. Han Minwoo is nothing more than an ordinary Beta clerk burdened by the stigma of being a murderer's son. They shared four years of an unspoken relationship, one Minwoo never dared to name, convinced that someone like him could never stand beside a man like Seo Dohyun.

When an assassin's bullet is fired inside a courtroom, Minwoo throws himself in front of Seo Dohyun without hesitation.

He dies believing that is the end.

Instead, he wakes up five years later.

Only this time, he is no longer Han Minwoo.

He has awakened in the body of Baek Jian, an Omega from one of Seoul's most powerful families...

...and Seo Dohyun's husband.

The problem is, Baek Jian and Seo Dohyun's marriage exists only in name. They are strangers sharing the same house, bound together by family obligations rather than affection.

Forced to live another man's life, Minwoo finds himself entangled in Baek Jian's forgotten past while the mystery surrounding his own death begins resurfacing. As powerful families close ranks to protect secrets buried years ago, the line between Han Minwoo's past and Baek Jian's present begins to disappear.

Now Minwoo faces an impossible choice.

Should he remain Baek Jian forever and help Seo Dohyun move on from the man who died five years ago...

Or reveal the one truth that could destroy everything?

Because Han Minwoo never truly disappeared.

He simply came back wearing someone else's face.
