The video feed was slightly grainy, angled upward from where I had planted the hidden camera inside his tote bag, but the audio was crystal clear. Crystal fucking clear.

Mr. Lee was in his apartment. He sat on the edge of his narrow bed, his grey trousers pooled around his thighs. His hand was wrapped around himself, pumping with a frantic, desperate rhythm, his breathing coming heavy and ragged through the tiny microphone. His other hand clutched his metal thermos—the very one my lips had touched the other day—and he was licking around its slick, cold rim with raw, unsated hunger, his eyes half-closed, lost in some private, fantasy.

Was he imagining me?

The thought hit me hard; dark, and possessive.

On his laptop screen, reflected in the blue light of his glasses, adult videos lit his laptop screen. Gay porn.

I should have been taking notes. I should have been documenting evidence of deviant behavior, of a man clearly struggling with inappropriate desires. That's what I was here for. That's what I'd been paid to do.

But all I could do was watch.

I watched a storm of raw emotion sweep across his face in the dim bedroom light. The gentle, upright teacher was completely gone, replaced by a man hopelessly consumed by his own forbidden lust. He bit his lower lip until it blanched, his eyes dark, heavy, and glazed over. His copper curls were damp with sweat, plastered to his forehead. He looked wrecked. He looked beautiful.

Fuck.

It didn't take him long. The thermos slipped from his fingers, hitting the floorboards with a heavy, metallic clang that made me flinch. His free hand reached up to his chest, fingers desperately pinching and pulling at his nipples through his half-unbuttoned shirt. His head threw back, his throat exposed, vulnerable, and a long, shuddering cry tore from his lips—

"Ji-ho!"

It sounded so pathetically sweet, so utterly broken, it sent a jolt straight down my spine.

His body buckled. He released in sharp, helpless jerks, his chest heaving for air, his entire frame trembling with the force of it.

Wow.

It took me a long moment to realize my own hands were trembling. My heart hammered against my ribs like a trapped beast, a heavy, suffocating heat pooling deep in my pelvis. I gripped the edge of my desk so hard my knuckles turned stark white, completely unable to ignore the uncomfortable, swelling tightness in my jeans. My own breathing had gone ragged, matching his through the speaker.

This is wrong. This is so fucking wrong.

But I didn't look away. I couldn't. I watched him come down from the edge, watched the way his chest rose and fell, watched the way his hand fell limp to his side. And then, the high of his climax vanished.

His expression shifted instantly from primal desire to profound, crushing contrition. He squeezed his eyes shut, burying his face in his hands as if trying to scrub away the guilt clinging to his skin. His shoulders shook. Was he crying? Was he actually crying?

In my years of behavioral profiling, I’d learned a fundamental truth about true predators: they rarely felt remorse for their actions.

Predators groomed their targets with cold, calculating patience, viewing them as objects to be consumed. If Mr. Lee were truly a predator, he would have savored this transgression. He would have compartmentalized it, or at the very least, his guilt would have been rooted in the fear of getting caught, not in moral revulsion at his own actions.

What I was watching on this grainy screen wasn't the behavior of a groomer, it was the moral collapse of a man horrified by his own loss of control. He had fantasized about Ji-ho and then immediately felt bad about it.

This wasn't evidence of a crime. But it wasn't evidence of his innocence either.

He stood up on shaky legs, retrieved the flask from the floor, and stared at it with an expression drowned in self-loathing. He disappeared from the frame, followed by a harsh, metallic rattle—the flask tossed into the sink—and the hiss of running water. I heard him scrubbing at it, violently, like he was trying to erase the evidence of his own weakness.

When he returned a few minutes later, the contrast was almost jarring. The dark, pathetic creature of lust was gone. He had washed himself clean and changed into a faded, pastel-yellow pajama set dotted with tiny flowers. He looked younger. Softer. Entirely harmless.

He slid back onto the mattress, closed out his browser windows, and opened Netflix. He clicked on a melodrama about a chaebol heir shouting in the rain at a weeping female lead. He lay on his side, propped on one elbow, snacking on a bright orange bag of Saeukkang shrimp crackers, the rhythmic crunching filling the audio feed. Occasionally, he wiped his mouth with the back of his sleeve, looking small, fragile, and entirely alone.

Within twenty minutes, his head drooped, his eyes fluttered shut, and he drifted off to sleep, the crinkling cracker bag slipping from his limp fingers.

I stared at the still image of his sleeping face.

A dark, intoxicating realization settled over me.

I could push him. I could make him break. He wasn't the hunter. He was the prey.

I closed the laptop, plunging my room into complete darkness.

***

I was screwed. I couldn't get Mr. Lee out of my head.

The image of him undone—copper curls damp against his forehead, glasses askew, chest heaving in shallow gasps as his tongue lapped around his cold metal flask—was seared into my retinas. It played behind my eyelids every time I blinked, a loop of private torment I couldn't shut off.

At school the following day, it was worse.

I arrived twenty minutes early, telling myself I wanted to review the calculus notes. The real reason was that I needed to see him before the chaos of students flooded the halls. I needed to see if he looked different. If he carried the weight of last night in his shoulders, in the set of his jaw, in the way he held his chalk.

He didn't.

Mr. Lee stood at the front of the classroom when I walked in, arranging his textbooks with meticulous care. His copper curls were freshly washed, bouncing slightly as he moved. His glasses sat perfectly on his nose. His pastel blue shirt was crisp, pressed, not a single wrinkle out of place. He looked exactly like the dedicated, professional mathematics teacher he was supposed to be.

But I knew.

I knew what those hands looked like wrapped around himself. I knew the sound of his breath when he came apart. I knew the exact shade of pink that bloomed across his cheeks when he was overwhelmed.

And now that knowledge lived inside me like a parasite, eating away at my professionalism, my detachment, my fucking sanity.

"Good morning, Hang, you're early, " he said. His voice was steady, warm, completely normal.

"Morning, seonsaengnim," I replied, keeping my tone carefully neutral.

He smiled—that small, private smile that used to make my chest ache with something that felt dangerously like affection. Now it just made my cock twitch.

What the fuck is wrong with me?

During first period algebra, he called on me twice. Each time his eyes landed on me, a hot flush of arousal shot straight to my groin. It was involuntary, immediate, and completely inappropriate.

"Can you solve for x, Hang?" he asked, tapping the board with his chalk.

I looked down first to confirm I wasn't bulging before I stood up, walking to the front of the room. I could feel his eyes on me, tracking my movement. I could feel the weight of his gaze like a physical touch. When I reached the board, I was close enough to smell him—that subtle yuja and spice scent.

My hand shook slightly as I picked up the chalk.

"Are you alright?" he asked, his voice low enough that only I could hear. "You seem distracted today."

I glanced at him. He was standing just a foot away, his dark eyes concerned, his lips slightly parted. I wanted to grab him. I wanted to drag him into the empty supply closet and kiss those lips sore. I wanted to make him say my name the way he'd said it when he came.

"I'm fine," I said, my voice rougher than I intended. "Just tired."

He nodded, but his eyes lingered on my face for a beat too long. "Get some rest tonight," he said softly. "You have a mock test next week."

If you only knew what I was thinking about while you were sleeping.

I began to scribble on the board; I messed up the calculation, unintentionally this time. I was too distracted.

He sighed. "See me for a tutorial by 4 o'clock today. I'll take my time explaining it to you again, ok?" The recess bell chimed.

During his tutorial session, I was even more distracted.

At one point, he came over to my desk. He smelled like sweat and that faint trace of yuja.

"Let's look at this problem again," he said, leaning over my notebook. "You made an error here in the second step."

His finger traced the equation, and I couldn't focus on the numbers. All I could think about was where that finger had been last night. All I could hear was his voice, ragged and desperate, calling out into the empty room.

"Are you listening?" he asked, turning to look at me.

Our faces were inches apart. I could see the flecks of gold in his dark eyes. I could see the tiny mole beneath his left eye. I could see the way his lips parted slightly when he was concentrating.

"Yeah," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "I'm listening."

He held my gaze for a moment too long. Then he cleared his throat and straightened up, adjusting his glasses. "Good. Then let's continue."

But I saw it. The flicker of something in his eyes. The way his cheeks flushed slightly pink. The way his breathing changed, just for a second.

He's thinking about it too.

He was thinking about me the way I was thinking about him.

And that made it so much worse.

By the time I got home that night, I was vibrating with tension. I threw my bag down, kicked off my shoes, and collapsed onto the couch, staring at the ceiling.

Every time I closed my eyes in the quiet of the night, the audio played on a loop: that pathetic, shuddering cry he'd let slip right into my hidden mic. The sound of my name crowning his release. No, not me, my alias—Ji-ho.

Jesus!

I was supposed to be gathering evidence. I was supposed to be confirming that he was a predator who targeted students. I was supposed to be cold, detached, professional.

Instead, I was lying on my couch, hard as a rock, replaying the moment he came apart in my mind.

I got up, paced the length of my safehouse, running both hands through my hair until the roots hurt. I was a trained investigator, for God's sake. I didn't get attached to targets, and I damn well didn't get obsessed with them. Yet since I watched that feed, every passing hour only sharpened the edge of my fixation.

Our next private tutorial was in two days, and just the thought of trapped air in that quiet classroom made my blood run hot. I was losing my edge, slipping into a dangerous, dark obsession. I couldn't go into that room like this.

This is just stress, I told myself. Just the pressure of the case. I need to blow off steam. Then I can focus.

It was a lie. A pathetic, transparent lie. But I clung to it anyway.

I needed a distraction tonight before I ruined the entire operation.  Unlocking my phone, I scrolled through local listings.

This sleepy rural town was dead after dark, but a high-end lounge bar sat in the neighboring mid-sized city, about forty minutes down the highway. It was the kind of low-lit, heavy-bass venue where the sound rattled your chest, and the liquor was strong enough to blur a man's focus.

I stripped out of my student disguise and pulled on something darker, sharper—a fitted black turtleneck that hugged my shoulders, dark denim, and a tailored leather jacket. Shifting back into my actual identity felt like putting on armor. I grabbed my keys and headed out to the garage, straddling my Ducati Panigale. The engine roared to life with a guttural, aggressive scream that matched the frustration buzzing beneath my skin.

Before pulling on my helmet, I pulled a black knit balaclava over my face, adjusting it until only my eyes remained exposed. It was a sleek, edgy trend in the city's underground nightlife—anonymous, sharp, and convenient for hiding a face a certain high school teacher might recognize if fate proved twisted.

The club was lit with neon and noise. Deep, thumping house beats vibrated straight through the floorboards and up my spine. Strips of electric blue and violent magenta light cut through a hazy atmosphere thick with expensive cologne, sweat, and spilled alcohol.

A woman in a shimmering silver dress caught my eye and began gliding over with a confident smile, but I subtly shifted my shoulder, turning away before she could speak. I didn't want a woman's body tonight.

I moved to the bar and ordered a neat whiskey, tossing back the amber liquid and letting the harsh burn coat my throat. Setting the glass down, my eyes passively scanned the dimly lit room, cutting through the shadows and flashing neon.

Then my pulse stopped dead.

Unmistakable copper curls, slightly messy, atop a head slumped over the mahogany bar.

Was that Mr. Lee? Shit!

First book in a trilogy.
This story is a little different from my usual writing style. I wrote it fast because the idea refused to leave my head until I put it on paper. (lol)
So buckle up and enjoy the ride.

Synopsis:
Thirty-one-year-old Detective Han goes undercover as a high school student to expose a teacher accused of crossing dangerous lines.
His target is Lee Hyun-woo.
A quiet math teacher with warm copper hair, gentle eyes, and secrets buried beneath an aching loneliness.
The mission should be simple.
Get close.
Gather evidence.
Walk away.
Instead, stolen glances turn into dangerous fascination. Every lie pulls Kang deeper into a game of obsession, guilt, and desire.
Because the man he was sent to destroy is nothing like he expected.
