"You're just like your mother, aren't you?" said my Dad. He looked over at what I was drawing: A flower in a vase. "You've both got a thing for drawing, hm?" I laughed and quietly thanked him.
"I wanted to do a rose, but those are hard," I explained. "I think this is a lily, right?" It had six long petals, curling at the ends. White rimmed each section, leaving the bright pink of the rest looking almost like an explosion of color along the sides.
"That's right," he said. "A stargazer lily." I beamed up at him. "I saw them in the garden yesterday."
"You do like it when I bring you there, don't you?"
"Yeah. I like the plants." I finished filling in the last bit of green for the stem and smiled at my work.
"The garden's also where you'll decide whether to marry your future wife," a voice called out nearby. It was my Mum. I forgot she was here.
I looked up at Dad, and I could've sworn he was frowning, but he shook his head and smiled. He patted my head, and I laughed as he walked off.
By then, I didn't even remember Mum saying anything.
