Prisoners and inmates need medical care too! It falls on the correctional officers to provide security and continuation of a person's incarceration by escorting them to all appointments and procedures.
...Which sometimes results in us sitting in operating rooms with guns and tasers. I've sat in on CT Scans, MRI's, leg reconstructions, laparoscopic surgeries like gall bladder removals, hand surgeries, an eye surgery, multiple endoscopies, and a couple of colonoscopies (Shudder.) Heck, I was even present for the birth of a child once!
...Trust me. It is exactly as weird for us as it is for all the medical people.
Yes, we wear scrubs or containment suits.
Yes, it still feels totally unsanitary.
