TREE HOLLOW

Algae Memory - 2

Algae Memory - 2

Sep 12, 2026

None of us evoked that evening, we never evoked anything and pretended that each day was our first meeting while ironically maintaining a well known routine.
It occurred to me this was similar to how it was with...her, but at least, Isaac never apologized over and over, he wasn't sorry, and he knew he would do it again.

I preferred it that way.

What was the point of apologizing yet repeat the same mistake ?

There wasn't any point, hence, I too, spoke no apologies and continued to trespass his boundaries as my roots thrived to grow. I riled him up with questions on Yacinthe, made myself home without permission. Looked around as I pleased.

I did nothing but do as I pleased to satisfy myself of his pain whenever it were to show up.

Today was the perfect day to torture him with no escape as the thunderstorm had put the town in orange alert. We were enclosed here together, bored to death together.

Loup was out, somewhere, who knows where, and I still had to figure out about their parents.

Isaac was starring at his ceiling trough his closed eyelids. I visualized the darkness he most likely was contemplating, a crippling noise in the image. All of this was getting boring again.

They said humans could adapt to anything, clearly Isaac had adapted to the Tree Monster.

"Isaac"

The same way he had ignored all the noise I had produced around his room, he ignored my call.

I pulled out the shirt from the depth of his closet.

I already knew I would finally phase him again, so i could only be ecstatic repeating his name.

Isacc, Isaac, Isaac

Like a ritual to get him to look at me, me wearing what drowned me in a sea of algae. If he would continue being so dull I would have no choice but to go further and further.

His chin went to his laid torso to look at me.

Now what ? I thought at his astray demeanor.

What could be a lore accurate reaction of this character in such situation ?
I wondered, I wondered waiting for something to happen.

The few step he took to get closer, resonated in my bark in the most satisfying way.

Perfect

So perfect this was.

So pathetic, so hurt.

His anger greeted tears, his fist grabbed the algae memories and tightened its collar around my neck.

"Why are you wearing this ??"

My hollow show no weaknesses. "Why not ?"

"You always say that. It pisses me off."

Isaac glared at my empty soul, searching for something that he would never find.

"Take it off" He said.

"___" I said.

He raised his other fist ; the movement slowed down by frustration. He starred at me full of rage...but then....he gazed down to the shirt he was distorting. His arms fell down along his body. I was left unsatisfied, twice.

Twice - but the insatisfaction was different as I starred at the black Tv screen, reflecting Isaac next to a mess of roots and rotten flesh.

The green in my eyes was rotting, pouring from my glassy eyeballs to mix with the bit of putrid skin covered in perished vegetation.

It was all...shades of green. The rotten stripped me naked as it fell off.

"Hey..."

He was baffled yet smiling.

I...

I feel sick

Isaac heartfully laughed.

"Did you hate the show that much ?" He asked, wiping off amused tears. "No fucking way"

I felt seen through yet fully misunderstood.

I hadn't made any faces so how had he been so sharp to notice the boiling emptiness.
Had we been spending too much time together ?

It seemed even Yacinthe's shirt had melted to mix with my cells for Isaac carelessly glowed in the dark.

I could have bled as the masked ripped off...but a rotted corpse store no such thing as blood.

The refugee breeze of the storm who had passed through the poorly isolated window brushed past my revealed cheek bone, the actual bone. A bone of hardwood.

An exoskeleton that would have succumbed to the wind like its fellows trees if exposed further.

My tongue burned to move in this disarranged mouth. It wanted to express this invisible brain implosion that was being laughed at.

But this tongue....it could not move for it was no more.
Nothing could be expressed, nothing was to be expressed, for nothing of sense could make it out of this mess. A noisy and blank picture. Buzzing. Noisy, yet...completely silent.

"!$0["

The monster called its toy.

Reflected now in the turned off screen, Isaac, face to face with a heap of mold full of tiny white worms.

The monster grabbed this one's neck in an attempt to size the elusive it was yearning for.

The toy's expression appeared to be...confusion ? Or perhaps thrill ?

What could possibly be the thrill in the stench all around, which stained his skin and objectified his existence.

"You're sick in the head, Rowan" The toy smiled in disbelief.

I felt his pulsing throat within my tight roots.

I let go.

My heart was loudly pumping nothingness. Boom Boom Boom as my whole desesperatly held in the shakiness of the adrenaline.

Your Dad is a monster That's what he used to repeat.

I was no better.
At least he...

I was....something that would be forgotten. Leave no trace. Create nothing. A monster that will forever be...nothing more than a viewer. A viewer of this movie so great it had been sickening ; of this algae memory I would never be able to grasp, never be able to twist as my wish, to ta̧̰̣̼̘̱̰̥͟͜m̵̧̛̯͖̺̥̘̯̙͈̫̹̜͢ͅȩ̣̰͓̻͎͡, to ͕̰̒ͨ̈́r̯̠̦̩̲̦͚̙ͨ̌̑e͕̬͍̭̜͔̔͛͌ͯ̉w̯͕̰͗ͤ̑͂ͥ̒ͨ̈́ri̠̜͗̈́ͯ̾͊ͅt͓̙͔̲̦͚̙͊e͕̬̔͛͌, to own, to ̴͝͏̬͙͕ͅb̴͎͚̤̩̪͎͕̖͚̯̘̮̯̲͈̙̳̲́͢u̧̢̖̞̝̖̤̥̱̳͝í̙͙̙̥̰̯͎̘̜͔̘̰͇͠l͏̘̜̭̤̱͇̹̖̘͞ḑ̱̥̜́, to destroy, to live, to touch, to understand, to relate to, to control. Nothing.

Just

nothing.

I felt...inexistant.

I wanted to feel like I existed, somehow.

Isaac was still looking at me...I think. I think he was laughing...they always did that, laughing as I was breaking. Except...

My rotten palm gently went to Isaac's faceless face, a smooth and effective cut..."Is that how...you got him to kill himself ?"

Nothing to laugh about anymore huh ?

My lifeless soul found his dying one in his hazel mirror.

"I hate you..." Isaac said.

I didn't, yet.

"No, you hate yourself, Isaac"

This is the story of how Rowan met the person he hates the most in this entire world.

In a period of his life filled by void, Rowan goes to visit his mom after having rejected her invitations for years. In this unfamiliar town, he encounters two soulmates with a story that lights up something within the hollow.
Going back to this town, what is to be found does not look like what once was. The music from then now sounds completely different.
