TW: Abuse, please read with caution

Their results had been handed back to them. Both Hiroto and Satoru did well but there Kanato was with horrible marks. He was well aware of the fact that he did poorly but actively seeing his score made his heart drop.

He knew this would be his death sentence.

Kanato’s mind was racing as he thought about how he was going to tell his mom. He had been trying so hard and by this point he was exhausted. He almost didn’t care anymore. All he wanted was to disappear. He didn’t want to deal with anything.

When he inevitably made it back home he set his tests on the table and silently went into his bedroom. His mom wasn’t home yet so he had some time to decompress and mentally prepare himself. He threw himself onto his bed and closed his eyes allowing himself to escape reality for a little while.

The escape didn’t last long and he was in for a rude awakening.

Kanato’s bedroom door slammed open and he was pulled out of his bed by the hair. 

He ended up leaning on the floor, eyes wide in fear as he looked up at his mother.

Her eyes were filled with pure rage.

”I asked one simple thing from you!” She shouted, “why is it that you’ve come home with these worse than abysmal test scores!?”

”I’m sorry mom. I really tri-“ Kanato was cut off by a slap to the face.

”If you were really sorry you would’ve tried harder! Don’t expect me to believe you. You’ve been absent lately. Probably off fooling around when you should’ve been studying!” She yelled.

”I wasn’t fooling around! I was helping Satoru study!” He pleaded.

Once again she grabbed him by the hair, “you expect me to believe that lousy friend of yours was studying? He’s the bottom of the barrel when it comes to academics.”

”I need you to get rid of all these distractions and start taking things seriously! You’re in high school now and you can’t keep screwing around like this! I need you to secure a good future for us!” She yelled, throwing Kanato to the ground.

Kanato averted his eyes, his cheek starting to turn red after being slammed to the floor.

“I’ll be taking your phone and throwing out your guitar. They’re just useless and take up too much of your time.”

Kanato’s heart dropped, he looked up at her in horror, “you wouldn’t do that! You can’t do that! It’s all I have,” he begged.

”I stand by what I said. You don’t need such useless things,” she said, picking up his guitar.

Hot tears welled within Kanato’s eyes, “mom please! Don’t! I’ll do anything! Music is all I have!” He begged, grabbing onto her legs.

”You’ve had your chances. I’m done playing Kanato,” she said, kicking him off of her as she took his guitar with her out of their apartment and down to the dumpster.

As much as Kanato wanted to try to stop her he knew it would be futile. There was nothing he could do. He just lay there helpless on the floor.

When his mother came back into his room she had a pile of textbooks that she placed on his desk, “get up. Stop with the self pity,” she said, kicking him once again, in the stomach.

Kanato reluctantly got up and his mom pulled out his desk chair. Kanato obeyed her silent order and sat down. 

“I need you to get these read within the week. Clearly there has been a lack of studying and we need to fix that,” she said, putting her hand on his shoulder.

“Yes mom…” he said quietly.

“Good. Now you won’t be allowed to leave unless permitted to,” she said, locking the door behind her.
