I read and enjoyed Little Plum throughout my childhood, and it never once occurred to me that there was anything the least bit offensive or even inappropriate about the character. Obviously, times have changed (for the better); so I found myself wondering: how would one go about writing Little Plum today? How would one write a non-offensive comic strip story about a hapless young native from a mostly hapless tribe? This was the idea I eventually came up with.
