I want to say that Emmett is insistent on that the flowerpot's name is "Ariel" (in direct response to Petra's "the flowerpot with morning glories on his back...") because he (Emmett) wants people to understand that flowerpots are first and foremost PEOPLE and that being a flowerpot is secondary to who they are -- it's a PART of who they are, but it does not define them. (and maybe I'm reading into this too much, but anyway!!)
