Berbiz and Sep have been living in Eyrlum for a decade now (he was 15 when they arrived, she was 7). He chose her especifically as a sort of experiment: could he teach a servant to read and write? Could they be just as capable as deer? He found the answer to be positive, but some shades of these... spiteful thoughts still haunt him every so often.
By the way, he's still only a novice alchemist after a decade. We can only guess why.
