Mephiles' POV
I hummed as I almost skipped on the sidewalk while going home. Today is Shadow and I's two year anniversary and I'm going to propose to him. To the love of my life...
My smile widened at the thought of the two of us having kids. A boy named Alex and a girl named Maria. That's what I wish. To have two beautiful children with Shadow. My Shadow. My soon-to-be husband. God I sound like a kid myself. Or just a love-sick puppy drooling over a luscious bone.
I pulled out the black box from my pocket and thrived of its preciousness. The only thing that will bring the two of us even closer. I had to bite my bottom lip from screeching like a little girl. This day is just so perfect. And to make it even better, I'm going to surprise him. I took the day off to make everything match our happiness this evening.
I'm going to make a gourmet steak, no, grilled, Shadow loves grilled meat. And it has to be between a medium-rare and well-done. He likes blood in the meat but not a lot. On the side will be couscous. Another one of his favorites. Maybe even a few green beans or peas on the side to balance out the meal... Yeah, that sounds good. Now champagne or red wine? Champagne to be more fancy or red wine to fit the mood? Maybe I could even put the ring in the drink... But if I use red wine then he could accidentally drink it yet he would see it with champagne and we would be ahead of schedule... Red wine it is. Though what about dessert? Should I make a cake? Or how about fudge? Or chocolate? Shadow likes all three... a small chocolate fudge cake! That's what I'll make! It will be perfect! This is the most perfect beautiful day ever! We'll eat, he'll drink, I'll propose, he'll say yes, we'll soon get married, have kids, and be happy with each other for the rest of our lives!!
A thick liquid substance invaded my mouth and I stopped on my tracks. I tasted the substance and found it was blood. A small stinging came from my lip and I realized I was still biting my lip. I guess I really am a love-sick puppy... But how can I not be? Who wouldn't be!?
I continued my walk and in no less than five minutes, I found myself at my house. I went to the front door and twisted the knob, a stupid habit of mine. I know it’s locked because- the door creaked open- Shadow always locks it before leaving... Confusion overtook me and I quietly stepped into the house, making sure to make no sound for if someone had broken in. Suddenly, I heard strange noises coming from upstairs.
My ears swiveled to the staircase and I heard muffled voices along with a small banging like something was hitting the wall. What if that's Shadow?... What if someone broke into the house and now holds him hostage?!
My eyes widen on terror and, not thinking twice, I ran up the stairs and to the room with my Shadow in it. I swiftly-
"Ah!"
My hand hovered around the door handle. That's was Shadow. My Shadow. He's in there. With someone else. But he...moaned...
"Ah! Faster! Harder! Ah!"
That's...him... That's...Shadow...but...he's... moaning...and...having...sex...with........ someone else...
"God Shadow! Even after a year and you're still tight as hell!"
Is that who I think it is?
"oh! Shut up and just fuck me! For god's sake! Ah!"
I swing the door open and am horrified by the scene before me. On the bed is Shadow...with Sonic on top of him. Both were naked and Shadow's arms held to Sonic's neck while his legs were wrapped around his waist. Emerald and ruby eyes snap to me and widen. Mine tear up as it all processes...
"Mephiles!?" Shadow yells in surprise.
He then began to stumble for words. It only proved more that, as much as I want it to be, its not a dream.. I shook my head and walked from the door. Tears streamed my face as I left the house with my head down. A light rain had started but I didn't realm take notice. The only thing running through my head is that image... Sonic and Shadow...
Why? What did I do? I loved him. I gave him presents on holidays. I celebrated his birthday. I calmed him down when he was crying or furious. I was there for him I was nearly lost my job to help him! Was it even me? Did he just not think I was attractive or trustworthy or respectful or romantic or or... What did I do?!
I weaved between people whom rushed to get out of the rain. They were wearing rain coats and had umbrellas. Unlike my black jeans and red...t-shirt.. Shadows colors... I wore these on purpose... I had thought that...
A sob- BOOM!- I snap my head up. Now realizing the dark grey sky that would light up from the sudden flashes of lightning. I need to get out of this rain... But who will let me stay with them? Who will not ask a bunch of questions that would break my heart more?
Blaze? No. Tails? No. Amy? Hell no. Vanilla and Cream? No thanks. Knuckles? God no. Rouge? To sassy and best friends with Shadow. Shell criticize me over 'jumping to conclusions'.
I sighed. There's no where I can go. Now what should I do? I grasped my now shivering body and hunched over to try and help keep more heat to stay warm. Looking around, there were no people on the sidewalk nor cars on the road. Bit there is an alley way. Better than nothing...right?
I walked over and into the alley. There were trash and trash bags on the ground with a dumpster against the right wall. I strode over to the far side of the dumpster and sat down. I pressed my side to the oversized trash can and back against the wall.my knees touched my chest chest with my arms squeezed in the middle. Rain fell on my back and drizzled to the side, down to the ground. I was soaked to the bone and was cold as ever. I really hope I don't get sick from this...
Luck was not on my side as I let out a small sneeze. Well that's just perfect! I'm put in the rain, freezing my ass off with nowhere to go and now-!
"Hey."
I look up to see a silver furred hedgehog with five quills on the front, two on the back, and golden-yellow eyes. He was wearing jeans, a turquoise T, gloves, a d dark blue boots. His eyes held concern SD be stood in front of me with an umbrella that shielded us both.
"Are you alright?" he asked.
I looked to the ground and shrugged my shoulders. "Kinda."
"Then why are you out here in the rain? Especially without a jacket or umbrella? Let alone in an alley next to a dumpster?" he questioned with softness ad he knelt down to try and meet my gaze.
The image of Sonic and Shadow came to mind and I turned my head away. Silence was between us for a few moments when the silver 'hog asked another question.
"Do have someplace to stay?"
"No where I want to," was my reply.
"Want to stay at my place for a while? I have an apartment not too far from here."
I scoffed and rolled my eyes. "How do you know you're not inviting some killer or rapist to have a 'sleepover' at your 'apartment'?"
He chuckled and I looked at him. Amusement was in his eyes and a soft smile was on his muzzle. "Then I wouldn't have walked into this alley in the first place."
'What?' I mentally face palmed the question to this strange hedgehog. Who the hell does he think he is? If you have common sense then you wouldn't just ask some stranger if they'd want to stay at your house. Or apartment. You don't know who you can trust nowadays. This is just a trick.
"So?"
This surprised me. He was actually serious. He was going to let me, a complete stranger, stay at his apartment. His features softened and he stood to his feet before extending his hand to me. I don't know why but...now that I think about it...he seems...familiar...like we've met before...
"C'mon. The news says this storm is only going to get worse."
I slowly took his hand and he helped me up. I was a good 5-6 inches taller than him. His soft features never faded as he guided me out the alley and down the road.
~Time Skip~
We walked into the apartment and he closed the door. I took a look around the place and remembered the new surroundings. The apartment was small yet spacious. You're met by the living room when you first walk in, which consisted of a couch against the left wall, television on the right, directly across from the couch, a wooden-frame glass-top coffee table in front of the couch, and a love seat up against the half-wall. Said hall-wall separated the living room from the kitchen with a three foot wide doorway on the right side. On the kitchen, I could see an island in the middle of the room with a pantry, counter, sink, and fridge (in that order) against the left wall. Above the sink and fridge were cabinets while a microwave was above the counter. In the middle of the farthest wall was a hallway with two doors, one on each side, and a window at the end of it which rain pounded against.
"I know its not much but it's enough to live in or with," came the albino hedgehogs voice behind me.
I turned around to him and shook my head, taking notice of the waist-high table with pictures in frames on it. Now that I think about it.. I don't know his name...
"I don't think I caught your name?" I said as smoothly as possible while he passed me to go to the kitchen.
He looked st me from the corner of his eye and said, "Silver. Silver the hedgehog."
That name... I've heard it before... "Have we met before?"
He chuckled and said, "Yes we have Mephiles."
"Where? When?" I asked now freaked out to not remembering.
Silver motioned to the table with the pictures on it and said, "Look for yourself. I'm pretty sure those pictures from school will ring a bell."
I strode farther into the living room and looked at the photos. There was one of each year of school. Pre-k to graduation. I noticed in each and every picture that I was sitting/standing next to Silver. But... I just met him today-
I gasp as all the bells and whistles rang throughout my memory. Silver and I had been friends all through our school years. We had met the very first day of pre-k when I found him off to the side crying because the other kids were being mean to him and not letting him play. Even by himself. I walked over to him and comforted him and got him to play a game. We became friends because of that and were nearly inseparable. How could I have forgotten?
"Remember now?"
I turned around and there stood and amused Silver with a cup of hot chocolate. All I could do was nod. But then I looked away and lowered my ears. How could I have forgotten? My best friend...and this is how we meet again...
"You alright Meph?"
'Meph'? Not even Shadow called me that...
"I'm fine," I whispered quietly.
"Liar. You whisper when something is wrong. It's not a good thing to bottle up what can eat at you, ya know," Silver responded.
He had a point. But I don't think I'm ready to talk about something so personal. I felt Silver’s hand rest on my shoulder I looked over to him to see his soft pleading eyes. Silver opened his mouth to speak, but was but off by the lights turning off. The only light was from the window along with the rain.
"I'll go look for some flashlights. I think I've also got candles too. I'll be right back."
Silver set the cup on the table before walking away and into one of the rooms in the hallway. I went and sat down on the couch while waiting for him. Silver came back a few minutes later with a box and set it down on the coffee table.
"All my flashlights need new batteries so all we can use are the candles," he said while setting said candles on the table.
"It's fine. I don't really like flashlights anyway. Too bright for my liking."
"They're also dented, if you don't mind. It was a gift from my mother before I went off to college."
"I don't mind. What's the scent?"
"Rose and lavender. My mom said they're both calming scents and could help destress."
"That's kind of her. Think of you and getting that for you."
Silver looked up to me. He already knew of my past. I was an orphan technically my entire life. My biological parents couldn't get enough money to raise me so they dropped me off at an orphanage. Only two days after I was born. I was then jumping from foster home to foster home when I got to Emerald Wood. That's when I met Silver. The only person I truly cared about or for and vise versa. Not even my foster parents cared about me.
"Meph?" Silver asked, breaking my thoughts.
I snap my gaze to him and got in a trance. The rain-textured moon light casted upon Silver's silver fur and made him look like and angel. And his glowing golden eyes only made him more appealing.
"Mephiles?"
I snap out my face and reply, "Y-Yes?"
"Are you alright?" he questioned.
