[The Beginning]
"Well yea! If that was coming to kill me, I'd be screaming too! Anyways. After both of our screens went black, the game went back to the character select screen. Not only were our characters unusable, but we couldn't choose anybody else." He finished his story and led Helian over to the TV. Bellis picked up a remote and tried selecting his character.
???: Yoü can't.
Next he tried to choose one of the unused characters.
???: Yoü can't.
"Ooh! Ooh! Ooh!" Lily bounced over. "Let me try."
"May I try as well?" Rose walked over shyly. "You said it involved magic?"
Lily swiped the controller out of Bellis's hand and selected the fire player. This time the game proceeded to designing the character. After making it identical to herself, even including her freckles, Lily passed the second controller to Rose. "The only other one left is earth."
Rose selected the earth player and designed its appearance. She was able to give it a little green bow. "Really Rose?" Lily teased with a raspy voice. "Next you'll find a way to hoard all the books in the land! Its make-believe just like your books."
Rose chose to ignore her and stared the game. Again the characters stared out in the seemingly never ending field of grass. However, the grass was no longer green. Now it was golden and dying. "Wow, the art is gorgeous." Helian said but went unheard. All five of them were now huddled around the large screen.
Lily took her character and went off in one direction while Rose went towards the town. After a few minutes, Lily started laughing obnoxiously, but kept it to herself. She was standing next to a large boulder that jutted out from the bottom of a mountain. There was a large crake in the rock where something trapped inside started glowing. Lily made her character repeatedly hit the rock until it shattered.
Both Rose and Lily's screens cut to a video of Lily's character standing upon the rubble. She reached down and grabbed the source of the light and the screen faded to white. The scene ended and went back to the game.
"I don't get it? Why is her character still playable after she got the stone?" Bellis said pointing at her screen.
"I know right! So unfair!" Daisy fumed.
'Lily' started running towards the town where 'Rose' was talking to the local people. All of them were odd looking and were nonexistent in the twin's game. The screen cut again to a video as 'Lily' faced 'Rose' in the center of the town square. The two eyed each other. 'Rose''s face was stern while 'Lily' bore a wicked grin.
Lily: Ah, Rose. It sëëms that I've found you.
Rose: Stay away from me you monster.
Suddenly the sky grew dark and the wind whipped their hair around their faces. The towns people screamed and ran into their houses. The screen panned over to 'Daisy', whom was covered in blood and grinned more devilishly than 'Lily'.
???: Yoü fools knew I was here, yet yoü came to play anyways.
???: Its like you were begging me to kill yoü." Lily's character screamed and covered her face.
It ended with 'Daisy' wrapping her hands around 'Lily''s neck.
The scene cut to the game again. Lily's side of the was blank, but Rose could still play. Lily got angry and ripped the controller out of Rose's hands. "Hey!"
"No! I don't die before the bookworm!" Lily shouted and tried to move the character.
???: Yoü can't.
"What!?" Lily shouted at the TV. Rose forcefully took the controller back and the character moved.
"You can't control me, Lily." Rose glared at her.
"You know, I think there was a stone at the start of the game." Daisy said trying to remember.
"Yea! It was in that big tree!" Bellis agreed. 'Rose' ran as fast as she could away from the town to where she spawned and there was indeed a large twisted tree there. She walked up to it and the screen cut to another video.
It showed Rose's character from the inside of the hole in the tree. Her hand reached out to grab something round. She picked it up and the screen went white, then it was covered in vines. After a couple of seconds it showed the character on her side, presumably unconscious with cuts all over her body. Her eyes fluttered open and she picked herself up. Her shirt design had changed and bore a green X that had some points on it. Like two branches of a thorn bush crossing together. 'Rose' crawled farther and found herself in front of a deep stream. She sighed in relief and submerged herself in the pool to wash out the cuts.
There was a rustling that came from behind her. She turned and was met with the blank eyes of 'Daisy'.
???: Did yoü really think I'd let yoü go so easily?
???:I thoüght it'd be fün to have a real battle with yoü, 'Rose'.
She swung her hand out and 'Rose' flew out of the water and onto the bank of stream. As she stumbled to pick herself up, 'Rose' noticed another stone glowing under some brush. Her stare returned to 'Daisy' as she flew over the stream and landed a few feet away. The smile never fell from her blue face.
???: What's wrong 'Rose'?
???: Yoü don't want to fight?
She slammed her into the base of a tree. 'Rose' screamed in agony and clutched her stomach.
???: Yoü jüst want me to kill yoü?
???: 'Rose' that's so lazy!"
'Daisy' slapped her face around effortlessly. The other growled and swung her arm out. It contacted with 'Daisy' face, and she stepped back to block herself.
Rose: You wänt to fight me 'Däisy'?
Rose: You häve to do more thän släp my fäce!"
'Daisy' gasped and dramatically held her chest. Then she yelped when she found herself trapped in a vortex of thorns. They moved across her skin, chewing her up like a meat grinder. The scowl on 'Rose''s face twisted into pure anger as her response from the other was mocking laughter. She pulled her arms back and the twister released 'Daisy'.
'Daisy' rolled around, howling with laughter. She sighed and sat up, wiping off the blood that now stain her face.
???: Oüch.
???: 'Rose'? Did yoü really think yoür power harms me at all?
???: I control air. How woüld a sharp vine kill air?
???: Yoü're going to have to do better than that, büt I now that yoü can't.
She picked herself up off the ground and pulled 'Rose' into her face by her shirt collar.
???: Yoü are süch a stick in the müd, 'Rose'!
???: Yoü're no fun to play with.
She threw her into the shallows of the water with an unknown strength and stalked up the the coughing girl. Her shadow loomed darkly over the earth player. Even it seemed to smile.
'Rose' cried out as 'Daisy' kicked her hard in the stomach. Over and over until the other threw up blood. It mixed with the surrounding water and was pulled downstream. Once 'Daisy' gave her a thorough beating, she leaned over close to her face.
???: Where are yoür friends now 'Rose'?
???: Where are the people yoü did nothing to save?
???: They are dead.
???: They won't help yoü, as yoü didn't help them.
'Rose' was picked up out of the shallows and thrown into deeper water without fighting back. By her hair, she was pushed down into the black water. She never struggled. She let it happen.Slowly the bubbles began to disappear until 'Rose' was limp in 'Daisy''s hand. She let go and watched as the body floated to the surface and was pushed away by the current.
'Daisy' turned and faced directly towards the screen.
???: Another one gone. There is one more player left. Will yoü continüe to let yoür friends die in my garden?
Her wicked smile took up the entire screen before it went black.
All five of the kids stared blankly at the screen in awe. The room was silent except for the noise of the fan and their low breaths. The TV screen turned into static, so Bellis got up to turn it off. "So. Does anybody know what just happened?" Daisy asked.
"Your character is brutal, man. How did you get it to do that?" An interested Lily turned to Daisy with sparkles in her eyes. The other shrugged genuinely not knowing. Bellis rubbed his eyes and realized that it was almost 8 o'clock.
"Oh my god, guys! It's almost been an hour and a half! I swear that game just sucks you in!" He stood up and poured himself a glass of pineapple soda. "Does anybody else want some." He offered. Helian nodded and Rose shrugged since there was nothing else to drink anyways. Sometime while they were playing the game, Daisy and Lily had gotten their own and devoured an entire can of Pringles.
"Does anybody want to watch a movie?" Daisy suggested. She gained a collective "sure" and went up to her movie library. It was just as extensive as their collection of video games. "Any suggestions?"
"Jurassic Park!"
"Big Ass Spiders!"
"Ferris Bueller's Day Off."
"Twilight!"
They all looked at Rose with raised brows. She looked back at them with a scowl. "What? What's wrong with Twilight?"
Lily leaned over to Daisy, covering her mouth with her hand. "This is why you shouldn't have invited the bookworm!" She whispered not so quietly.
"I can hear you, dummy!" Rose snapped.
Daisy laughed nervously and stood in between them. "Guys, why don't we watch Back to the Future? It's a good movie that everybody loves, right?" Rose rolled her eyes and nodded.
Lily cocked her head to the side. "Actually I've never seen it!"
Bellis gasped dramatically . "Lily! You've never lived!" She giggled at him. Daisy perused the alphabetically organized shelf of movies until she found the movie and pulled it out of its spot. As she put the movie in the DVD player, Bellis poured and refilled everybody's glasses. Then he grabbed a large plastic bowl from the kitchen and emptied out the rest of the Pringles into the bowl. Daisy jumped at Bellis who moved out of the way and held the bowl closed to him. "You already ate a whole can!"
"And?" She tilted her head and gave him puppy dog eyes.
"And the last time you ate too many Pringles you threw up on me."
She squinted at him. "Fine. You win."
"Really?" Bellis said somewhat surprised that she would drop the topic so easily.
"Nope." She ripped the bowl out of his grasp and sat in between Rose and Lily on the couch. That way they would not murder each other. Bellis shock his head and sat next to Helian on the loveseat. He grabbed the remote and skipped passed the commercials to get to the movie menu.
"Are you guys ready for this?" He pointed the remote towards the screen, but paused before starting it.
"You know I am!" Lily shouted excitedly.
"Here we go!" Bellis started the movie.
About an hour and fifty minutes later, they got to the scene were Marty was about to go home. The storm had disconnected the wires that led to the telephone poles. Lily was bouncing up and down on the couch in suspense. The lightening struck the clock tower and then, black. They had lost power and sat in dark silence for a moment, before Lily screamed. "What happened! I want to know how the movie ends!"
"I think the power went out." Helian said. "Didn't you see the lightening outside?"
"No! I just saw the lightening in the movie." Lily pouted and crossed her arms. Under the guise of the shadows, Rose smiled to herself as she enjoyed Lily's pain.
Helian pulled back the curtains that hung in front of the windows. "Wow. Unsurprisingly it looks like everybody lost power. It is so dark outside I can't even see our cars." Lightening lit up the sky before being followed by thunder that made the windows shake.
Bellis came up behind him and peered out. "In fact it doesn't even look like we are in the middle of the development anymore. Don't you see all of the grass surrounding us! It wasn't there before!"
"You two have a beautiful imagination, but I doubt anything like that happened." Daisy rationalized as she dug through a drawer in the kitchen to find a flash light. She turned it on and pointed it out the window. "It's not long grass, it just the heavy rain you weirdos."
"I guess so." Bellis pulled his gaze away from the window as Helian let the curtains fall back. "Well since we can't do anything, we might as well go to bed."
"Aw! But I can't sleep not knowing the movie ending!" Lily whined.
"The metal pole on the car touches the wires of the telephone pole just as the lightening hits the clock tower powering up the-." Rose started but was cut off.
"I don't want to hear it from you!" Lily hissed.
"Well then, you can use your own imagination to think of an ending." Rose spat.
"Hey guys, could you go into our rooms and grab some extra blankets and pillows?" Daisy asked as she pointed the flashlight at the other two girls. They nodded before glaring at each other and doing as they were asked.
Bellis plopped down on the love seat next to Helian. "I don't need a blanket or pillow, because you are so warm and soft!" He cooed.
Helian blushed and moved over an inch uncomfortably. "Bellis, that sounds very creepy."
"Yea. That really did." He agreed as Lily and Rose came back. Rose gave everybody a blanket, and Lily handed out pillows. Helian let Bellis have the small couch even though Bellis insisted they would both fit. The three girls shared the bigger couch and were careful not to kick each other in the face.
"Goodnight everybody." Daisy said as she switched off the flashlight.
“Goodnight."
