"HALF-devil."
Samael corrected him.
"Half-devil."
Wilhelm repeated.
"You're the offspring of a Fallen man and a Human woman."
"So my goddamn mom fucked with a devil and then there was me."
"Yes."
"Hmm... hmhmhmm... hahaha-HAHAHA"
Wilhelm tilted his head back and started to laugh. The crows nibbling on Reinhard's remains got startled and made a ruckus while flying away.
"What's so funny?"
Samael raised his eyebrow.
"Haaaah..."
Wilhelm sighed and wiped a tear from the corner of his eye after laughing too much.
"Mom used to call me a devil, you see... it pissed me off, but it's funny now, because it's true."
"Heh." Samael closed his eye, shrugging.
"Sorry for interrupting you. Do go on."
Wilhelm waved with his hand for Samael to continue, and dragged on the cigarette.
"Thank you. Well then..."
Samael paused and sat on the edge of a bench which was in front of Wilhelm, leaning his feet against the other bench that Wilhelm was sitting on.
"Your father was my friend. We knew each other for a long time. However, he liked to disappear every now and then, traveling to various places, mostly here on Earth. He never stayed in one place for too long."
"Hm. I see."
Wilhelm says bitterly as his mother told him each time that his father left as soon as he was born.
"Irresponsible I know. Anyway, he owed me a big favor once. When I contacted him and asked him to return the favor, he just said 'take my son, he'll be of better use' and hung up on me. It was quite a surprise to me, because I didn't even know you were born, and I didn't see your father ever since, therefore I didn't even know where to find you."
Wilhelm snorted then shook his head, sighing.
"Great..."
He paused, flicking the ash from the end of his cigarette.
"So, how did you manage to find me in the end...? Did I cause some... 'disturbance in the force' by my 'dying act' or what...?"
Wilhelm asks with a note of sarcasm in his voice.
"Basically."
"Basically."
Wilhelm repeats.
"I sent my men to find you, but it was difficult to have any sort of lead, because your Fallen powers were not active. Usually, Fallen can perceive each other by reading the aura... at a limited distance at least."
"I see..."
"But after being shot, your soul got trapped in a zone that belongs to my domain."
"Oho..."
"Not only that, it didn't convert itself into a raw soul... which indicated that there was still a connection between your astral self and your mortal remains-"
"Um..."
Wilhelm made a puzzled face expression.
"...but I digress. Ahem."
Samael cleared his throat.
"To make it short, we were searching for you, but you came to us on your own, so to say."
"Alright... I understand. Lucky I guess..."
Wilhelm takes one last drag on the cigarette and dropped it on the floor, then stamped out the cigarette butt.
"So..." he puffs the smoke out "...that means, you're here just because you want to collect a debt my old man owed you."
"Yes."
Samael says short.
"Heh..." Wilhelm snorts short but he wasn't happy about it. At all.
"Business is business." He mumbles bitterly.
"That's how it is."
"What do I have to do then?"
He looks Samael in the eye, raising an eyebrow.
"I just want you to join my army."
Wilhelm blinked not sure what to say.
"So, you have a... domain, you can resurrect people, you have an army... who the hell are you actually?"
"Hm."
Samael smirked and shifted in his seat.
"How should I say it... I'm something that many refer to as a god... with the only exception that my potential is limited, and I only rule over the souls of the damned."
Samael gave him a calm, toothy smile.
Wilhelm opened his eyes wide followed by a jaw drop, feeling a shiver. Now he remembered why the name sounded so familiar. He recalled reading about it in some books when he was a kid, about Samael the Devil, the Soul Eater, the Evil Deity. And here he was in front of him, he really existed.
"...my... soul has been sold to a motherfucking Grim Reaper..."
Samael laughed out loud.
"It's been a while someone called me that way."
Wilhelm didn't find it funny.
"...am I now... damned to serve you until I die and then ever after...?"
Samael chuckled amused.
"No, well... not really. Maybe... That depends on how things will go..."
"So... what exactly do I have to do?"
"That what you can do best. Fight for me."
"Mhm..."
"But not now. There's still some time until I will need you. So don't worry."
Wilhelm sighs.
"Well... At least I am no longer forced to work with a goddamn creep. I'm a property of a creepy god of the damned instead."
Samael laughed again.
"I will just ask you to keep in touch with me, so that I can depend on you when the time comes. For now... I'll give you some freedom..."
Samael gets up and jumps to the side, landing on the ground gracefully and barely making any sound. He turned to Wilhelm.
"For the time being, you can stay here on Earth... and probably use the advantage of the fact everyone thinks you're dead, to do as you please, or... come with me and live in my domain with the other Fallen, if you're interested. You can learn about yourself and the benefits of being a halfling. The choice is yours."
Wilhelm pondered for a bit, looking to the side. Then he looked Samael in the eye.
"Teach me."
He replied with a serious face expression.
Samael smiled.
"I want to know more about my Fallen heritage... and what I am capable of."
"As you wish. Now come, my child."
Samael said calmly and swept his cape off his right shoulder, offering a hand.
Wilhelm stood up and approached him, taking the hand. Samael yanked on it and pulled Wilhelm closer, wrapping his cape around them. A red circle with unknown letters appeared at their feet. Wilhelm gasped as the reality around them started to swirl and blur, creating a vortex. Samael embraced him tight and leaning slightly, whispered to his ear.
"Fear not, it'll last but a moment."
Wilhelm shut his eyes tight and they both disappeared, on their way to Samael’s domain.
The dust settled.
Nothing but silence remained.
