A small bud
It slowly blooms
A seedling
That can only be planted by someone else
It grows unnoticed
But is always there
A golden blossom of warmth and light
That never dies
Forever and always it will live
To throw, keep, or give,
The choice is ours to make
If we throw it, it won’t come back
If we keep it, it won’t grow or diminish
But, if we give it,
The missing flower will be doubly replenished
It can start because of the smallest thing
Representing the happiness
A simple thing brings
From the life we take for granted,
Or
From a day of rain with no homework,
Or
From a present given on a special day,
Or
From a lucky chance
Of a meeting with amazing people
One by one they gather
The single flower becoming a field
A barren, lonely brown
Turning into a warm yellow
Watered by smiles
Fertilized by laughter
Warmed by memories
Breathing with love
Glowing with gratitude
To truly live, a flower is needed.
To see in colors
And not in shades
To live in the moment
And not the future
To reminiscence and relive
And not be dead while alive
To laugh in happiness
Not sigh in depression
I used to be dead,
Long, long ago
With dulled eyes and constant sighs
I was not alive
But that has changed
And I can breathe
When I smile you know I’m happy
Not conveying something ambiguously
If it were not for them I wouldn’t have changed
And wouldn’t enjoy life everyday
Now I have a purpose,
A reason to live
To give back what they had given
In any way I can
To make them smile
For they taught me to laugh
To let them know they are loved
And, in their darkest times,
Support them like they have supported me
But I am a person of little words
And even smaller actions
Nothing I could do could express my immense gratitude
So I give to them this poem of love
My gratitude shown in words
My heart in these lines
I give to them this poem
That they may never hear
But even so
I hope they’ll always know
That I’m here for them,
Everyday of every year.
