Andreis managed to slip into the library undetected fairly easily. Now, he needed to find a spot to hide. He had gathered that the White Rose club usually held their meetings in the geography section so he hid himself in a corner a few rows down. He figured he should be able to hear mostly everything from there. He crouched down and waited. Two hours passed and the library was completely empty by the time the first White Rose boy walked in. The boy's entrance was signified by the library lights flickering on, Andreis couldn't tell who it was until another boy entered behind him and they began talking.
"Eric told me he might be coming a little late tonight. He didn't happen to mention why to you did he?" The voice belonged to Bentlee Mullins.
"He said he had to deal with something before he could come. I'm kind of glad we're the first ones here though. It means I get you all to myself until the others arrive." The second speaker was Norman Faulkner.
Bentlee let out a small giggle. "Stop it."
There was a loud crunching noise. "You're not supposed to eat in the library Norman."
"Heh, well it's a perfectly good Milky way and I've already opened it. I'm not going to let it go to waste."
"I'm surprised you came by yourself. Where's Kian?"
There was another crunch before Norman responded. "I went without him. We need some time apart. Besides, he doesn't like when I give you all my attention."
Bentlee giggled again and the dull thud of someone bumping into something sounded. "Oh stop it, we can't do anything like that here. Someone could walk in at any minute."
"Isn't that the fun of it?"
"No one can know about us. Kian will have my head if he thinks I'm stealing you away from him," Bentlee mused.
"Well, we're going to have to separate eventually. We're identical twins, not the same person. He's going to need to stop using me as his safety blanket eventually..." they stopped talking abruptly and from his hiding place Andreis heard the sound of footsteps approaching.
"I hope we aren't interrupting anything." The voice belonged to Robert Reed.
Norman laughed, "Nope, nothing at all. Hey Rob, hey Fitz. Did Eric tell either of you where he was?"
"I think he said he was running some errands for the student council Halloween costume contest that's coming up," Fitz replied.
"Oh! I forgot about that! Norman, have you decided who you're going as for the contest yet? You and Kian always have the best costumes," Bentlee exclaimed.
There was a beat of silence, presumably Norman thinking.
"I don't know-" he was cut off as someone else walked up to join him.
"We're going as Fred and George Weasley from Harry Potter. I already bought us the wigs and everything."
"I never agreed to that."
"Hey, Kian! Glad you finally arrived. Oh, by the way Fitz, did you make snacks?"
"He's still on that health kick, remember?"
"Are you kidding me?"
"I brought a fruit platter."
"OH COME ON FITZ. You have got to be kidding me!"
"Did anyone move Eric's chair yet? He doesn't like to start meetings without it."
"I'll go get it." There was a screeching sound as some kind of object, presumably the chair, was dragged across the library's wooden floor. Andreis continued to hide, crouched behind the bookshelf with his legs pulled up to his knees. It was strange hearing them all talking to one another with so much normalcy. Andreis felt a sudden ache to be out there with them, complaining about Fitz's fruit platter or planning his costume for the Halloween contest. He glanced quickly to the watch that hung around his wrist. It was 10:34. The second hand continued to tick.
Why was he doing this, why the bloody hell had he thought this was a good idea? He would never be one of them, what use was it to hide like a creepy stalker and observe people that wanted nothing to do with him? This is what it must feel like to be one of those people who watched Keeping Up with the Kardashians. He sighed, leaning back against the bookshelf and closing his eyes. After tonight he would just drop it. He would apologize to Mika and Charlie for being a total ass and then simply hope that they would forgive him. Then he would forget all about the White Rose club and never even look at another member of it again. The second hand on his watch hit 10:35 and then suddenly there was a sixth voice and the room fell silent.
"Sorry I am late." Eric Marshall's soft voice was extremely quiet, so much so that Andreis had to practically hold his breath and strain his ear to even hear what he was saying.
"Don't worry about it Eric."
"Let us get straight down to business then. Did everyone contribute at least one hour of community service this week?" There were sounds of various variations of 'yes' from the boys.
"Good, it is important that we all do our best to be a good part of the world we live in. Moving on to the next piece of business. I trust that everything that needed to be fixed from the issue that was brought up last meeting has been resolved?"
"Yes Eric, I moved them from the old spot to somewhere no one will ever find them. I buried them by that huge oak tree in the woods near the back of campus." The voice belonged to Norman.
"They better be well hidden this time. The school's gardener almost dug them up in the last spot. What the hell were you thinking burying them near the fountain?" The second voice was Kian's.
"I don't know? It was just an impulse, I wanted to get rid of them quickly! It's not my fault I got picked to do it." There was a growing anger in Kian's voice when he spoke again.
"An impulse! You risked everything on an impulse. It's not just your life on the line Norman!" There was an echo of footsteps and Andreis assumed that Kian was circling the room. "We're all stuck in this together now, whether you want to be or not. There's no backing out, what's done is done. So, I suggest that if none of you want to ruin all of our bloody futures you'll think over your actions next time before acting on goddamn impulses! I thought we all joined this club because we knew that we were better than the rest of the scum that we're forced to associate with on this planet but I'm starting to re-think that! Honestly, these last couple weeks I feel like I've been hanging out with a group of over-emotional overgrown children!"
"That is enough Kian." Eric Marshall didn't raise his voice from its usual gentle whisper but the moment he spoke Kian fell silent.
"I'm sorry Eric..."
"That is alright." There was a beat of silence. "I understand that it has been a very stressful week for all of us and we are all handling the pressure differently." Andreis had no idea what they were talking about but it was making him extremely uneasy. He wanted to leave...he wanted to get the fuck out of this library and go back to his room.
"Eric's right, we all just need to calm down and take a deep breath." The voice belonged to Robert. "I mean, all we have is each other, right? And no one regrets it." There was a few sounds of agreement from the others.
"Wait a minute..." the voice that spoke this time was Fitz.
"Hm?"
"Fitz, what the hell..."
"Shhhh, shut up for a sec. I think that there's...." there was silence for a moment and Andreis's entire body tensed.
He waited a beat but nothing happened.
Finally let out a breath he hadn't even realized he was holding. Thank God...he must be safe-
"Hey buddy." Andreis turned so fast that he slammed into the bookshelf. In front of him were the faces of Robert Reed, Kian Faulkner and Fitzwilliam Gutierrez. Andreis was fairly confident that he had never seen anything as terrifying as the expressions on their faces at that moment.
