I was on a project in the Middle East and every day we had a long drive to a refinery and back. I wondered if someone would start to hallucinate if they had to do the same thing forever – and I wrote Routine with my colleagues in the car. Much later I found out this story is similar to one written by Horatio Quiroga – an author I was not familiar with. It was an eerie feeling seeing the similarities but feel obliged to point out that his story came first.
