Continued Chapter 5

Jun 30, 2017

My hands cupped over my mouth in shock, as he started to cry looking away.

“Lucas-I’m so sorry I-” I started to blame myself.

“It’s okay.” He mumbled lying to himself.

“No it’s not! It’s my fault you won’t be able to walk again, It’s my fault you got shot! IT’S ALL MY FAULT!” I walked out of the room and into an operators and grabbed a needle and placed a tablespoon of an rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide.

“This is all my fault…’ I whispered to myself ready to inject the poisonous mixture in as I stepped into the hallway, then everything went blurry.

Chapter 6: Blackout

I woke up dazed and confused in a hospital room with tubes hanging from my arm that I injected, my head was throbbing and my arm felt like it blew up. A doctor walked in rolling Lucas in his new wheelchair, with books and papers. The doctor sat on the edge of the bed.

“It’s not your fault, I didn’t know you felt like that…” Lucas sighed.

“We did tests, and you just have some “simple” things like anxiety and depression, but the major’s are your blood is not normal from the injection and you will have to do daily antibiotics to get better and your blood back on track. And you will need to go to an allergist for medications for a reaction you had on your leg.” He informed skimming through the paperwork on his lap.

“Why won’t you let me die?” I asked sitting there looking at my arm.

“What do you mean? You have family and friends to go home too?” He questioned suspiciously.

“No, I don’t have a family, there gone and dead. I don’t have friends except Lucas. I don’t have a home, it’s destroyed. So why? Why do you help me when I have nothing but pain and hurt and despair, so go help other people live… Just leave me here to miserably perish…” I broke down overreacting staring at the tubes.

“We can’t do that-” And the doctor stood up and walked away.

I sighed and draped my hands across my face frustrated and angry.

Later that day I rolled Lucas out of the hospital, arm throbbing, body aching. I sighed, “Why do you like me?” I stopped in my tracks and looked at him.

“Why do you?” He looked around.

“Because you don’t care.” I sat down on the ground next to him.

“What do you mean?” He looked down at me.

“My family, my crazy family. You don’t care about me breaking your brothers bone, at least I don’t think so. You don’t care about my problems that I have. Nothing.” I said.

“Wow, I didn’t know you felt that way…” Lucas bent over with his hands over his chin.

“I thought you didn’t care about me or what happened to me that night…” He sighed.

“That’s all I could care about!” I laughed.

“You got shot in the stomach by someone that’s out to get me! You became paralyzed! But you didn’t care!” I stood up.

“You were almost as tough as me, you still weren’t but you were close.” I smiled.

    “Haha.” He laughed sarcastically.

His parents drove us home that night and picked up Jackson a few days later. I’ve been staying at Lucas’ house until further notice. When Jackson walked in the door he glared at me as if I had wronged him, which I didn’t he broke my nose, so I walked back up to the room they fixed up for me so I was out of the attic. It had string lights draped across the ceiling and a closet were some of the string light hung from because I would sleep in there instead of my bed most of the time. I put my hair up in a bun on top of my head like a donut and ran back downstairs with only two strings of my royal blue hair smacking my nose. I went to run down the second flight of stairs but Jackson grabbed my bun as I screamed,

    “MY DONUT!!!” I cried out.

Jackson reassured I was okay to Lucas and ripped the bands from my hair and wrapped a cloth around my mouth and cut at least eight inches of my three foot hair and left it jagged and rustled.

“When you leave this house you wish you were never born…” Jackson whispered in my ear and let me free as I ran to the bathroom. I ripped the cloth off my mouth and grabbed scissors and started cutting my hair as Jackson tried to get in the bathroom. I walked out with my hood up Jackson unknowingly aware that all that two and a half feet of hair I just secretly cut with meat scissors wear going everywhere in his room, bed, clothes, and anywhere else he keeps belongings or sleeps.

We were called for dinner as I walked down to the sight of a massive table of ham, corn, potatoes, carrots, and all kinds of other food I didn’t know existed. I rushed down the stairs and almost tripped while the enchanting smell smacked my nose down the wooden planked stairs. But my hood slipped off as the family gasped as Jackson walked down the stairs. My short blue hair smacked against my face while Lucas’ face turned bright red as he smiled at me.

“SHE USED MEAT SCISSORS” Jackson screamed at his parents.

“He also said that once I leave this house I will wish I was never born, and when I screamed that was him tying a cloth around my mouth and cutting eight inches of my hair.” I smirked at him.

“Jackson you're grounded and get the belt and after dinner I can help you wash your hair Sabene sweety.” Lucas’ mother's face turned from a scowl to a smile.

I chuckled and sat down and ate then Lucas’ mom showed me how to wash my hair and then she went to do dishes while I showered, got into my pajamas (Lucas’ dad old military shirts) and had dessert again.

“Honey, have you checked your weight?” Lucas’ mom lead me upstairs and pulled out a scale.

I stepped onto the scale as scale arrow crept forward.

“SABENE! Your only 109.4 pounds and your FIFTEEN!” Lucas’ mom gasped.

“Is that bad?” I scratched my head.

    “YES!” She slapped her forehead.

“Are you on an Auschwitz diet or something?” She chuckled while I froze.

I stormed out of the room and then the house running across the streets in downtown. My eyes filled with tears as flashbacks began from Germany then the worst hit my brain. My friend and I were grabbed by a Nazi soldier and the one friend I had, her name was Emily. We were put in a bus and taken to Auschwitz where I saw everything. The piles of bodies and items. And they threw Emily in there with them I escaped but she was caught and a Nazi soldier shot her. I will never unsee that horrific scene, never. I kept running as a red car started to slow down next to me and at the perfect time pulled over and a man ran out and grabbed me and covered my mouth when at the corner of my eye Lucas and his dad started running after me. The man pulled out a pocket knife and pulled my head back leaving the blade rubbing on my throat.

“I’m taking you home” He whispered in my ear while a tear streamed down my face still screaming. More people stepped out of their vehicle's, gasping at the scene.

“CALL THE COPS, SHE COMES WITH ME!” The man screamed.

“STEP ANY CLOSER! I DARE YOU, AND SAY BYE TO THE BLUE HEADED PRINCESS!” The words seeped from his mouth as my brain burned with the words princess ringing in my ear. I swiftly brought my hand up releasing the knife from the man’s grasp and kicked him in the stomach pointing the knife at him all in one move.

“Don’t call me princess.” I said sternly.
