I gulp. May God have mercy on my soul. I need to throw my attacker off his course. He'll never take me alive.
'' Turn around!'' he demands.
I smile. I know what I must do. Quickly, I reach for my dagger and turn around. He is caught by surprise as I tackle his arm.
Summoning all my strength, I push him against a tree. He is around my age by the looks of it and he is...
I yelp as he kicks my leg making me go down on one knee. He takes out a crossbow and aims it right at me. Grunting, I roll away just as an arrow embeds itself into the ground. Sorry guy I don't know because you are not the only one who knows how to fight. I push myself to get up on my feet. I don't wait for balance but hastily load my bow with an arrow.
He continues firing and actually misses. Almost as if he can't shoot. I know he's faking it somehow. I fire away. My shot is great! I don't kill him. I'm not an assassin, which does sound like a fun job option. I am a huntress. My arrow simply pins him to a tree by fixing itself to his clothes.
I turn to take off. Like a bird in flight. A bird that will never be seen again. I hear the unsatisfactory noise of his escape. Before I can even think, I end up being pinned on a tree.
I face him. Struggling and hissing like some wild animal. The cold touch of a dagger is held against my throat. I feel all the blood I have drain down. Finally, I meet his face.
A face so finely chiseled it couldn't have been real. His hair is white. White like ice. White like snow. His eyes oddly red. Red like the blood trickling down his pale face.
''You should've yielded.'' he says.
''I don't need to listen to you.'' I reply.
Anger flashes through his eyes for a split second before giving a lop-sided smile. A psychopath. If I wasn't on the wrong end of the blade, boy , do have a lot to say to him.
''I must say,'' he smiles,'' Nobody has ever been able to match my skills in battle unlike you.''
''Yeah,'' I snort as I feel the blade come closer to my skin,''Considering the fact that your aim is as lousy and as tacky as your personality it's weird that you even speak of battle because you obviously haven't fought before. You are seriously horrible at archery!''
I don't mean it. He is pretty good at fighting. I just need to let out a little steam.
''At least it's better than having a sketchy personality. Reveal yourself hunter!''
Laughing slightly I pretend to take my mask off. Only pretend. When I notice that he is distracted I push him away trying to wrestle the dagger out of his hand.
I taste the minty, metallic taste of my own blood in my mouth. He kicks me off him. I turn to climb up a tree. Swinging myself onto a branch I wipe my mouth to remove the blood. oh no. I stare in dismay as I see my ragged mask in the boy's hands.
My identity is now exposed.
