Soon, the Doe grew weary and fell asleep on the bed. Aphrodite didn’t take it as rude because she understood that she was exhausted. They mostly sat in front of each other for quite awhile. When the Doe drifted off she noticed her favorite god floating above her, Hypnos. Hypnos was working his magic by: A. Saving herself from a bag of awkwardness, and B. Finally putting that hopeless girl to sleep, she needed it.
Aphrodite whispered while gently leaping out of the comforting bed, “Welcome back, my favorite goose.” Hypnos finished his magic and floated down to the modern navy carpet, facing Aphrodite.
Hypnos commented, “For your information, I am a graceful cat, or bird, oh you’re right again!” Aphrodite giggled and winked at him. Hypnose threw his arms in the air, shook his head and giggled along.
They both fled through the open window of the Doe’s bedroom and flew over the quiet town, side-by-side. Aphrodite noticed something bright and glowing in the corner of her eye. She motioned toward Hypnos to follow her to the god of the sun, Apollo. When both celestial beings reached Apollo riding his golden chariot across the sky, Aphrodite smiled brightly.
She curtsied in her robe, “Good morning, almighty sun god.” Apollo laughed while guiding himself across the sky. He smiled charmingly, “Good morning to you too, Aphrodite,” he noticed the god of sleep floating next to her, “As well to you, Hypnos.” Hypnos bent over with his hand on his heart, “Good morning,” he spoke, but murmured, “You nasty bug.” Aphrodite heard his comment and swatted at his shoulder. Hypnos kept his stance, glanced at Aphrodite from the corner of his eye and smirked; then, he finished his bow.
Apollo looked at them concerningly, but dismissed what happened at that moment. He spoke deeply, toward Aphrodite, “What brings you here as I ride my noble chariot across the darkened sky? Do I need to brighten your day?” Aphrodite giggled, her cheeks flushed. She quickly glanced at Hypnos and spotted his fists tightening out of jealousy. She continued flirting with Apollo by tucking her wavy hair behind her ear. She replied, “Ah, I just came to visit. Apparently there was a hopeless teenager, or Doe, screaming for my help early in the morning. Do you think I should mess with her a bit or actually help her?” Apollo shrugged, “Do as you please, you know love isn’t my expertise. I prefer riding my comforting chariot across the quiet sky, keeps my mind off of things.” Aphrodite nodded and sighed, “Well, thank you for trying. I must take my leave, I have to follow around that Doe.”
Aphrodite waved Apollo goodbye, took one last glance at his attributes, then began drifting toward the ground. While floating through the wet clouds, she noticed Hypnos quickly treading behind.
While swooping through the waking town, Aphrodite followed the energy waves of the weeping Doe. She flew through the many streets and homes until she finally found her victim.
The Doe was fixing her curly hair into a bun, with a few strands escaping the grasps of her hair tie. She power-walked along the sidewalk in her dark knitted wedge winter boots that went to her ankles. Her Delia designed backpack on her shoulders, smartphone in her back-pocket, black colored earbuds in her ears and the occasional adjusting of her red flannel.
Aphrodite hummed as she cautiously floated above the girl, “Oh-my twitchy witchy girl, I think you are so nice. I give you bowls of porridge and I give you bowls of ice.. cream! I give you lots of kisses, I give you lots of hugs, but I never give you sandwiches.. with grease and worms and mung… beans!”Aphrodite is positive she has heard that from the humans, but she couldn’t recall from whom.
Aphrodite sighed, “I love singing that little poem, speaks to me quite well..”
The Doe continued walking along the sidewalk, making a few turns here and there until finally reached a high-school.
Aphrodite spoke in a hushed tone, “My, my, why this is a grand school. Wonderful colors, red and white with some beige. Many windows and doors..” Aphrodite zoomed ahead, going through the walls of the enormous school. She scanned each room, corridor and other places that seemed to be for extracurricular activities; she was truly fascinated.
Aphrodite zoomed back to the Doe. The Doe seemed to be walking through one of the open corridors and towards a room. Through the large windows, Aphrodite could see arrays of tables. She flew closer toward the double doors and examined a sign above that read something she wasn’t quite familiar with: CAFETERIA.
She couldn’t focus on the strange word now, she had work to do with the teenager.
Aphrodite followed her into the room, which buzzed with other teenagers as well. Some of different gender and build.. Some of which Aphrodite wanted to play games with. When the Doe sat down at a table, she placed her smartphone and earbuds in her bag. She set her bag on the table, rested her head on it and faced a window. Aphrodite made contact with the ground once more and sashayed toward the Doe.
As soon as Aphrodite sat next to the girl, she finally decided make herself visible to all humans in the room. Out of the corner of her eye Aphrodite saw one teenage male glance at her from head-to-toe and motion toward his other friends.
Aphrodite heard them whisper, “Is that who I think it is?”
“Aphrodite? The goddess of love?”
“No way..”
“Impossible..”
More murmurs were being spread across the room. Aphrodite straightened and crossed her legs. She glanced at the Doe, the girl didn’t seem to take notice of the gossip.
The humans continuously spoke softly to one another, “God look at that body! She’s smoking!”
“Gosh, she’s beautiful.”
“Marry me.”
Aphrodite giggled at that last comment, she found it quite ironic. Aphrodite smoothed out her wavy hair and tucked the locks behind her ears.
One teenage male spoke with a voice that reminded her of Narcissus. The voice made her shiver. He boasted, “Ha-ha, alright lads, place your bets because I’m going to be the one to score with that beautiful lady on the other side of the room.” Aphrodite turned her head toward the voice only to find a tall teenage man standing in front of his group of friends. They were all pushing human currency towards the middle of the table.
Aphrodite felt her cheeks glow as she took sight of this teenager. His messy undercut was dark as ashes, yet blossomed as he stepped into the light. His soft-ivory skin was covered in freckles and the circles under his eyes made him look more charming than ever. His wore black ear studs and a denim shirt that displayed his biceps. His leather belt seemed to slip through the belt loops of his black skinny jeans with ease. Aphrodite saw his shoes were black Converse though the cracks of other teens sneakers.
Aphrodite turned her head to herself and cursed. She doubted herself, “It’s possible that Fox has a chance to score with me.. Unless...” She looked up with optimism, she had a plan to catch this sly Fox.
She needed to switch tables because she remembered she was sitting next to the Doe. Having the girl next to her could ruin her plan. Aphrodite stood and moved to a different table, where she sat alone, waiting for her prey to pounce. She straightened herself, crossed her legs and leaned forward while she heard the Fox strolling through the crowd of teenagers. The Fox slid into the seat across from her, they both made eye contact.
His dark eyes glowed fiercely as he spoke, “I must ask.. Could you be Aphrodite? The goddess of love?” Aphrodite smiled charmingly and replied, “Of course.” He mimicked her smile, “Well, I must be a lucky man to be speaking with a beautiful goddess such as yourself. What brings you to this place, anyway?” Aphrodite nodded, “I guess the goddess of luck is allowing you to speak with me today, however, that is unimportant. Pardon me, you asked me what brings me here? Ah, well I’m on a mission. A lady asked for my help on a situation...” Her voice trailed off as memories of the Doe flooded through her brain.
The Fox trailed his black polished finger nails along her smooth skin, “Well, I think you should put aside that mission and spend sometime with me tonight..” Aphrodite’s heart raced as the Fox tickled her skin. She thought to herself, “This one is going to be more difficult than I imagined...” She leaned in closer, their faces almost touching, she looked at his eyes and muttered, “Alright, I’ll play your game. Although, as you can see, I’m quite busy at the moment. How about we meet up later in the week?” The Fox smiled in agreement. Aphrodite approached his ear and spoke softly, “Call for me and I’ll know where to find you.” As she slowly pulled away, she noticed she sent shivers down his spine, she smirked.
Aphrodite stood from the table and walked out of the room, leaving a scent of roses behind. In the halls, she glanced through the windows and saw the Fox’s dropped jaw. At that moment, she knew she was going to win this game.
