She opened the closet at the other side of the room and it was almost like a complete other room. From there, I chose a beautiful scarlet dress decorated with diamonds and with some white lace around the hem. I was expecting the dress to be annoying to wear, but surprisingly it just felt soft and fuzzy, not at all annoying. If anything, comforting. Then we moved onto shoes, there was a giant rack full of any style I could imagine. I chose a red set of heels with a stream of diamonds tickling down the side to compliment my dress. I just had to wonder what kind of family I was supposed to belong to. After all, if they had dresses and shoes of this kind just laying around in a closet, what kind of rich are they?
Next up was hair styling. The lady sat me down in front of a vanity mirror and went to work. Ever since I’d been around him, I only put my hair up in tight pony tails. There wasn’t ever time to think about braids, buns, or anything of the sort. I was actually a bit pleased. I mean, here I am, being kidnapped, but I can enjoy the warming sun, wearing beautiful dresses, and have my hair styled for me. All that, and I don’t even have to worry about him.
My hair was beautiful when she was finished. I had two brown braids wrapping around my head, with a bun at the end. She started decorating my hair with jeweled pins and made sure that every strand was in place. I liked her, she worked quickly and efficiently. I wondered what kind of person I was supposed to meet. After all, he was supposed to be the owner of this place. If possible I would like to try and get in him good graces, if anything.
“Which ones would you like, Miss?” She held up a selection of beautiful earrings.
“These ones look nice.” I pointed at a long dangling silver set, that would go along nicely with my dress.
I thought that they would be super heavy on me but, it felt the same as the dress. Light, soft and fuzzy. I mean, I didn’t mind it. That just meant I could enjoy this detour from my regular life a bit better. I really dreaded seeing him. I never want to see his face again. I don’t want to have anything to do with him anymore. That’s when I devised my new plan. I was going to convince this Sir Covington to let me stay at his mansion for however long he’ll take me for. Hopefully he’d accept me. Then I wouldn’t have to worry anymore about going back to him. I doubt that he would search for me in a place like this. He likes to stay around flashy areas like this because then he can’t work like he usually does, in the dark.
“My lady, you are ready for the meal now.” She looked at me, like she was scanning her own piece of art.
“Thank you for everything today.” I responded with as much respect as I could muster.
I didn’t want to anger anyone around me. I wanted to be in everyone’s good graces. As long as I didn’t act out of line they wouldn’t have anything to complain about. So I’ll just sit at that lunch like a doll and listen to Sir Covington and make him believe that I’m at his beck and call.
She opened the door to the hallway and I followed her. I tried to walk with my back as straight as possible. I imagined I was one of those princesses training with books on her head. I kept my hands in front of me and fiddled with my thumbs while we were walking. The hallway just seemed endless. Every few feet there would be a door, like the one to my room. This continued for a short while, until we reached a giant door with beautiful woodwork. The lady slowly opened each door and bowed her head to me telling me to go through. On the other side was an amazing set of dark brown stairs complete with a red rug with a gold trim. The air here smelled even better than my room. It felt cool and refreshing to my lungs. I carefully walked down the set of stairs, careful not to trip.
It seemed like we were in the foyer of the mansion. We took a right, and from then on the decorations in the mansion just grew. The windows were all perfect, even down to the placement of the curtains at every window. We arrived at another set of beautiful doors. She opened them and the room slowly came into view. There was a wonderful chandelier and a long dark oak table surrounded by chairs in the middle of the room. The table had a wonderful middle piece decorated with candles and flowers. Sir Covington hadn’t arrived yet, making me more anxious than I already was.
We walked in front of the chair to the right of the head of the table. She pulled out the chair for me and I sat down in it. I sat up as prim and proper every noble women does and I waited for him. After a few minutes, he came bursting in through the door on the other side of the room. I thought that Sir Covington would be some strange old man, but he was surprisingly young, and handsome. I stood up from my chair to bow to him and then sat back down. He sat at the head of the table. He looked even better up close than I thought he would. It was almost like I was scanning him. He had dark brown eyes that I could stare into forever, and light brown hair that wasn’t too long or short. He had a beautiful face shape to compliment his features.
“Clara! How good to see you’re doing well” He smiled at me.
“Yes, and you too Sir Covington.” I couldn’t believe how soothing his voice was, how handsome his smile was.
“Oh please, let’s drop the formalities. You can just call me William like always.”
I smiled back at him. This was going good. I muster up the courage to ask the question that might bring the entire mood down.
“So, might I confirm why I am at your beautiful mansion, William?” I was so nervous I started to rub the back of my neck. He started to look very surprised.
“Ha ha… Did you forget? You’re here to be my bride of course!” He started to look flustered.
“Oh, yes, sorry I must still be a tad bit tired.” I wonder who’s the one misunderstanding the situation. I know I was kidnapped. Where am I now, and why am I being married to this man.
