The museum was a large building and Jack knew it well. He had spent meany hours studying the history of his ancestors and the country he lived in.
The museums building was the pride and joy of the village of Prata, for the building was built in 2145 AD. It had lasted through the turmoils of history and the uprising in 2295, so now it was a place of storing the collected years of dust and data for the past 400 years.
The receptionist saw Jack and his Tutor enter the open doors, she placed down an old book next to a steaming cup of something and smiled.
Jack knew that smile well. It belonged to Miss Keebly, the receptionist of the Library and museum. She had helped him meany a time in the past to look for certain books on bees.
"Hello Miss Keebly."
"What can I do for you, Mr Bee? Another book by the QC again, or something more thrilling?" Asked Keebly behind the desk. She winked at Jack.
"No, we are here on official duties. I would like to have a History test sheet. Is that possible?" Asked the Tutor.
Miss Keebly's smile broadened. "Is it your final sheet?" She asked Jack.
"Yes mam, it is." Jack replied.
Miss Keebly passed a sheet of paper over the desk to the Tutor. "There you go Mr Jones. I wish you luck Jack." She smiled and Jack and his Tutor walked through a door off to one side of the receptionists desk into a huge sitting room.
The room had a fireplace that took up one of the walls, it had a big painting above it of a meadow with bee hives sitting among the flowers.
Jack sat down opposite from his Tutor.
"Ok, Question one. Are you ready?"
Jack nodded his head.
"What year did QC rise from the ashes of the old World?"
"2060."
The Tutor smiled slightly.
"When did America rebelled on the QC?"
"2294... or is it 2294?" Jack glanced at the fire place in thought. "No, it was 2295." Jack said making up his mind.
"Correct. What started the Great War of AD?"
"The lack of bees caused by a disease that spread through the technology they used at that time."
"What caused the disease to prosper?"
"The advanced technology and the use of pesticides on crops which slowly weakened the bee colony's so the disease could take full control."
"Who discovered the cure?"
"China, but sadly the damage had been done."
Shouts echoed through the open door.
His Tutors lifted his face from the paper towards the door. "Miss Keebly, can you come here for a minute!" More noises of distress came through the open doorway.
"Miss Keebly!"
Miss Keebly came scuttling into the room.
"Mr Jones," she gasped, "there's a man out side of the museum front doors with a knife and he's threatening locals with it and saying he wants to see you."
"I see. Can you finish asking Jack these questions while I deal with the man, there's only one more question to be asked."
The Tutor left the room.
Miss Keebly somehow looked pleased with the hole matter.
"So Jack I need to ask you one more question before you can start tomorrow." She said smiling.
Jack sat starring into the cold unlit fireplace. The last known case of a man wielding a knife was ten years ago when his mother was murdered.
"What happened to the Nations after the Great War?" Miss Keebly asked.
He can't possibly lose his Tutor as well. Mr Jones was like a father.
"Ah, it was the lack of food that brought on the um..." Jack stammered.
"That brought on what?" Miss Keebly asked him.
"The Age of Eugenics that only lasted for 30 year, mean while valuable knowledge was lost in that time period." He finished.
Miss Keebly could hear fear in Jack's voice. "Come here for a hug Jack, nothing is going to happen to Mr Jones." Miss Keebly raped her arms around Jack.
There was a scream from the street. Jack tried to pull away from her hug but Miss Keebly held him firmly.
"I can't loose him as well." He thought.
The noise of the police bell ranging and the sound of horse hooves on the stone street came through the open door.
"Finely, there here." Miss Keebly said with a sigh. "Let's go and look as they lead the man to the cart and see how well Mr Jones got on." Said Miss Keebly.
They both walked through the door into the big room and out the open doors onto the main street.
Mr Jones was being lead away in hand cuffs.
On the cobbled street lay a man in a pool of blood. The man would of been in his late 50s. The visible course of death was a knife wound in the man's chest.
Jack ran towards his Tutor.
"You can't pass this point." Said a police man as he stepped into Jack's way.
"But he's my Tutor, Mr Jones! Where are they taking you? You went out to help, tell them that!" Shouted Jack.
Mr Jones turned his back on Jack.
The police placed the murderer into a cage in the back of a wagon and started to drive away, leaving poor Jack with Miss Keebly and the dead man alone in front of the library.
Jack stood there watching as the police cart disappeared from site, thinking what to do next.
"Don't worry Jack. You'll get another Tutor and probably start your exam tomorrow."
Said Miss Keebly calmly, maybe just to calmly, how can she be so calm!!! Thought Jack.
He turned and started to walk slowly to the old folks home. He turned to look back at where the man that his Tutor had murdered. Miss Keebly was going through his pockets.
She sow that Jack was watching so she quickly left the body and want into the library.
