After leaving the library, Mr Lodovico and Jack headed towards the training Apiary fields on the edge of the village.
There was a small crowd consisting of proud parents and Tutors who were ready to watch as there apprentices, sons, and daughters, start the important exam.
Standing on a wooden platform and holding a megaphone, a man with graying hair known as Mr Richard Garden started to hash the little crowd.
Mr Lodovico was still muttering things under his breath about Miss Keebly when the silence was still being in forced. A parent pointed Mr Lodovico to their baby who was clinging onto them with fear of the amount of strangers.
"Today is the most important day in the year for most of you here." Mr Garden said loudly. "I see meany meany proud parents and Tutors here today as well as the famous writer Mr Lodovico." There was a applause and Mr Lodovico took a bow.
"Thank you. Thank you." He said, giving a winning smile.
"Now we will get down to beesniss." Mr Garden continued. Everyone gave a lough, even Mr Lodovico who wasn't normally a humerus person.
Jack was enjoying the exam's opening, he had been to it every year and now he was part of it.
"I will now fallow the procedure of calling out the name of the apprentice and then the Tutor and giving them a certificate with information on where your apiary is located."
"Mr Jackson and Tutor Kelm."
"Mr Keenly and Tutor Long."
"Miss Bud and Tutor Sheldon."
"Mr Bees and Tutor Jones."
Jack walked up with Mr Lodovico to receive the certificate.
Mr Garden looked confused.
"I am here to replace Mr Jones until he is available." Mr Lodovico said smiling. Mr Garden handed the certificate to him and smiled at Jack.
"You must me proud to have such a Hero as a Tutor Jack." He said. He waved us away.
"Mr Belton and Tutor...." Mr Garden continued.
The voices of the crowd trailed off as Mr Lodovico and Jack headed towards the seats that were littered around the bee hives. They sat down and Mr Lodovico read the card out loud.
"Mr Bees is hereby given Hive 3 in training Apiary field 9. May Mother Earth bless your hive."
Jack felt the excitement bobble up inside him as he took the certificate from Mr Lodovicos hand too look.
Mr Lodovico rubbed his hands together. He smiled,
This would make a good book at the end of this, "The Tutor and His Bee" It would be called. He thought.
"Right," he said "let's be off."
Jack put the card in his pocket and fallowed Mr Lodovicos lead towards Apiary field 9.
The sun shown and the bees buzzed. Tutors and apprentices gathered around each others hives talking about the possibilities that the future could hold for them.
Jack and Mr Lodovico walked quietly to hive 3.
Mr Lodovico handed a rapped package to Jack.
"What's this?" He asked.
"Its a new hive tool for your exam." He said smiling.
Jack unwrapped the parcel.
The hive tools shiny new metal glinted in the sunlight. It had a hooked claw on the end for scrapping and cleaning, the other end had another hook which was smaller and was made to help pry loose the frames.
"Thank you." Jack said smiling at Mr Lodovico. Mr Lodovico nodded.
Jack jammed the hooked blade between the top and middle box and levered the top box off.
Bees bussed angrily around Mr Lodovico expecting him to be the culprit of the disturbances.
Jack levered off the second box and removed the queen excluder from the brood box. Meanwhile Mr Lodovico monitored every movement that Jack made on the bee hive.
After half an hour of making notes and checking for extra queen cells Jack closed up the hive and said good night to Mr Lodovico and headed back to the old folks home that he called home.
Mrs Right was setting for the three of them when Jack came scuttling in.
"How was your first day of the exam Jack?" She asked smiling.
"It was great. Mr Lodovico gave a new hive tool as well." He replied showing her the new shiny hive tool.
Mrs Right seemed pleased at the news. She range the dinner bell.
Mr Right took a seat next Jack at the table.
They held hands and gave thanks to Mother Earth for the food they were about to eat and then started to eat dinner.
It was eaten in silence.
That was how Jack spent dinner every night at the old folks home.
In the morning Jack was late again for breakfast.
Mr Right was reading the news paper out loud for Mrs Right to hear.
"We (the QC NEWS) have been withholding this information from the public until now. There has been a problem North of Prata towards the cold lands of Scotland with bee hives. We do not know what is coursing the breakdown of the hives. We will update all of you when we find out more."
Mrs Right looked worried.
"Its probably nothing, just some allergic jealous teenagers poisoning haves." Mr Right insured her.
Mrs Right placed a plate full of fried potato's in front of Jack.
"Eat up, Mr Lodovico is waiting for you at the front gate." She said smiling.
Jack quickly ate his breakfast, changed, and went to meet up with his waiting Tutor.
