Dr Mellifera ran with her mother in the green meadows outside the gates of Virtutem Spei. The sun was shining and the bees could be seen buzzing among the flowers.
They both sat down in the lush green grass under a tree and watched the clouds.
"You wont tell your father about me leaving until after I have left, wont you?" Laminae said to Mellifera.
Mellifera nodded her head, tears in her eyes. "Mommy why cant you stay?" She asked beginning to cry.
Laminae stroked her daughters golden hair.
"Because it's to dangers for me to stay here." She said.
"Please bring me, don't leave!" Mellifera sobbed.
"Your father will look after you, don't worry. You'll grow up and crush this rebellion once and for all." Laminae whispered.
Mellifera hugged her mother tightly.
"Please." Mellifera said. "Don't leave me!"
Dr Mellifera awoke to find she was hugging a pillow and was overly sweating.
The bare concrete walls of her room seemed to be more tortuous then ever.
"It had only been a dream." She said to herself in relief.
She glanced at her wrist watch.
"3:30 AM"
Mellifera still had an hour of sleep.
She grasped the glass of water she kept filled by her bedside table, and took a long gulp of cool refreshing water.
She was only six when her mother left for unknown reasons. The day she left still haunted her dreams, but she knew it was no good to dwell on the past but instead look at the bright future that lay in front of her.
The watch on her wrist ticked the minutes away like a hot knife through butter.
She stared at her blank ceiling.
She missed the green meadows and the trees, as well as the sun. With the death of the bee, it seemed to effect the weather and everything else. The idea of having the robotic bee finished would fix everything.
She began to count the seconds away as her wrist watch ticked.
" 1, 2, 3, 4…." And so on until her alarm clock began to blow.
She lay and listened for a couple of minutes to the loud noise.
"Time to start another day." She said to herself.
Mellifera got up out of bed and headed for the bathroom. She had a shower and tied her hair up in a bun as she normally does before grabbing her lab coat and left her room.
Like normal, a group of ten scientists were waiting by the elevator's doors and as always they bowed there heads out of respect for her.
The doors opened and everyone filed in, someone pushed buttons and the elevator started to drop. After a couple of seconds the elevator pulls to a stop and the doors open. The scientists file out into the cafeteria, which was full with other scientists who were getting breakfast before heading out to work.
A young lady about 21 with dark brown long hair and wearing a white lab coat, ran up to Mellifera.
"They have fruit salad this morning." She said excitedly.
Mellifera smiled.
"Helen, you know I don't like the so called 'fruit salads' they serve here." Mellifera said walking to a salad booth and grabbed a spinach salad.
"Come on Mell, its not as bad as there Mac and cheese they serve for dinner every Wednesday." Helen said laughing.
"I guess." Mellifera replied.
Helen also grabbed a spinach salad and a container of fruit salad.
Mellifera rolled her eyes and headed back to the elevator with Helen fallowing behind.
"At least they do a decent equivalent of stakes on Monday night's." Helen said as she pushed the down arrow button for the elevator.
"Do you want to talk about something more interesting Helen?" Sighed Dr Mellifera.
Helen didn't seem to notice Mellifera's request and carried on talking about the food and its possibility of being good.
"I wonder what are we eating when stake night comes round? Because of the lack of grass for cows..." Helen carried on.
The elevator's doors opened and Mellifera and Helen stepped in. Helen pushed the button for the 8th floor down and soon the elevator started to drop.
"Right," Dr Mellifera said. "When we get to the lab, we need to finish the programing today and test for bugs."
Helen sighed.
They both had been working on the program of the Robotic Bee for a week and making sure they had correct algorithms.
The elevator slowed to a stop and the doors slide open. Dr. Helen and Dr. Mellifera started to walk down the hall to the door that read "Compartment for the Robotic Bee".
Mellifera smiled and opened the door and walked in with Helen fallowing behind.
The hours passed and the LED light shorn bright while Mellifera hunched over a computer screen. She could only grasp half of what the code on the screen said while guessing the other half.
The ancestors were vary smart and as rumors went they were able to create computer brains nearing the end of there civilian that could process data a million times faster then a human could, and that is what brought there downfall with the help of war overpowering the Bee.
Records were found in the heart of Chinas landmass, claiming that computer brains had discovered the cure in 2030 AD for the bacteria that was killing the bees and that they had been the minds that set off the great Erebus Bomb near London.
Dr. Mellifera sighed, it was only stories, no one actually knew.
A knock on the door made Helen look up from her screen of code data, but Mellifera didn't flinch.
"Come in." Dr. Mellifera said still studying her screen.
A boy in a gray lab coat walked in with a clip bord. He was around 17 and his body was in the process of filling out and he looked confused about it.
"What can we do for you Apprentice Lang? You must becoming to an end with your apprenticeship?" Asked Helen smiling.
"Yes, Dr. Helen, three months to go." He said feeling proud. "Dr. Mellifera, Lord Apise would like to see you." He said.
Mellifera looked from the computer screen to her wrist watch. It read "3:43 PM".
"Right now?" She asked with an eyebrow raised.
"Yes mam." Said Apprentice Lang. He ticked a box on his clip bord and turned and left the lab.
Mellifera sighed. What in the nam of science does her father want to see her for?
"Lang is awfully handsome." Giggled Helen.
Mellifera rolled her eyes.
"He's to young for you Helen." Mellifera said sighing again. "You will keep an eye on things won't you?" She said.
Helen nodded. "Of course, and he's not to young, I am only 21."
Mellifera raised her eyebrows in defeat and pushed open the door and started to head up the hall the elevator.
