When we both got back into the shop Cain was sitting at the table alone reading the book I gave him. I raised an eyebrow at him as I made my way over to the other side of the table. In the background, the white haired boy was making rattling sounds with all sorts of pots and pans.
"if your looking for your friends they left without you"
Cain said mimicking my facial expression.
I had only known this boy for a few minutes and he already got on my nerves.
"Thank you for that piece of information"
I said coyly trying to match his carefree mood.
We stared at each other trying to see which one would crack first and react as the tension grew between us.
When the white haired boy handed me a chipped porcelain tea cup I could have breathed a sigh of relief when he broke up the awkward silence.
"Thank you, Isaac"
Cain said as he broke his gaze away from me. I took this opportunity to rub my itchy hand.
" Are you two related by any chance?"
I blurted out without thinking.
" Oh um sure"
Isaac replied looking embarrassed suddenly.
" We're twins"
Cain added in.
"Thought so"
I took a sip of the tea and was surprised by the bitter taste it had. With all my self-control I tried not to make a face.
"So are you going to the local school by any chance".
I questioned again.
"We do not require an education"
Cain exclaimed obviously getting a little annoyed at my sudden questions.
He turned to Isaac and gave him a sullen look.
The silence returned and I tried not to fidget.
" Would you like to have your fortune read?"
Isaac said in a rushed tone desperate to end the intensity of the situation.
" Oh no I don't do that stuff"
I exclaimed waving my hand.
"That quite all right but if you change your mind you know where to come".
"Yeah... well, I best be off."
I stalked toward the door.
"Bye".
Isaac called.
As I turned around to wave goodbye I saw Isaac nudge Cain to get him to wave goodbye but he wouldn't respond.
He just looked at me with dead eyes as I walked out the door.
