So, after taking some time in class, I came to one conclusion about these so called 'games' the school runs by.
They're absolutely stupid.
Let me explain. The game is pretty much a simplified caste system, with the leaders being the seniors and each grade is a level lower. As a junior, I don't have it too bad, but I pity the lower grades. They probably dream of a better life, since I've noticed that they're treated like garbage otherwise.
Controlling others or just hurting innocent people, it just is a terrible thing I want no part in. Sure, controlling others can be fun when they deserve it, but receiving it is just absolutely terrible, if that wasn't obvious already.
From the day school starts, all lower classes must follow the orders and rules of higher classes. Freshmen lives as slaves to any of the older grades until they are promoted the next year.
God, if this got anymore caste-like, I'd report it to the police. Speaking of which, did teachers know? Did teachers even care about this? This whole situation was a crazy cliché I didn't expect to live in anyway. Of course, my dramatic brother disagreed with my opinion.
"Mazie, do you really find this bad? I wanna be powerful! You want to be powerful! People have hated us for the stupidest of things, we can take our passion out on them!" Caleb exclaimed, eyes wide at why I didn't agree. "We can be more than just appearances; we can rule the grade and those lower! We can overthrow the seniors if we get enough people! See Mazie? This is a miracle, a gift, this is a sign." I don't understand why we weren't seeing eye-to-eye, and he probably was confused too.
"Caleb, are you actually blind?" I deadpan. He looks at me with a confused face, and I let out a sigh. He was apparently. "I'm not gonna try to explain the obvious; just know you'll probably regret even trying to play around in this dumb game. It's highschool still, with people who will still not like you for stupid things as you said." I understand where Caleb is coming from, don't get me wrong, but I mean, I don't personally want to have someone else loathe me because I was ahead.
Not again.
"Hey, kid, where do you think you're going?" I must have been subconsciously walking, and it took two blinks to realize what I did. A girl had her gaze on me, and an annoyed one at that. I glanced besides her, which was Ace with a surprised look as well. I glanced besides me, to find out I was in one of the senior lounging areas. Or well, it wasn't really only for seniors but it was taken over by the games I suppose. "This is a seniors only area, and since you're playing by the rules, might as well get out before you get into trouble."
"Hah, I'd rather not," I respond with a roll of my eyes. I don't really understand why everyone acted as if this whole thing was a permanant thing. You could always act out, and what could they do? If they took it too far, some adult would find out and woo, would it end quickly! "I don't think forcing someone to follow stupid rules is necessary-" I would've continued, but the girl just laughed.
"Wow, you're funny, you know that? Games are required. You don't get a choice, but I like how you think. Similar to me, right, Ace?" She elbowed the boy who stared in surprise still, finally grabbing his attention.
"This is Mazie, actually, Maryli," Ace let out. "The new transfer; you're a junior, right?" He gave a glance towards me, and I gave a nod in return. He shifted to face me, and crossed his arms, letting out a sigh. "You just read those rules during your classes, and you're already out to break them? Are you asking for a death wish?"
"What can they do?" I ask. Ace narrowed his eyes at me.
"Anything they want. Kids run the school, not adults. The kids who know how to manipulate do the talking, and the ones that can't fall behind. Usually, the manipulative have their parents wrapped around their finger," the words dripped from his mouth without hesitantion. "They don't get in trouble, and while they can't do anything on school grounds, there's more to this game then just school life."
"Parties; the top dogs always host parties. You know the King and Queen that was talked about in that fancy letter? The king holds parties for all the classes to attend, and trust me, you have to go unless you wanna have trouble your way," Maryli let out a snort.
"That's so stupid though!" I grumble, and Ace nodded in agreement.
"You can't really do much; trust me, Mary and I have done our share. Or at least we attempted to, without much success," Ace grimanced. "We got punished and had to walk off our injuries; it was in our sophmore year." I glanced behind me and around them to make sure no one else was there before I kneeled in front of them to whisper.
"Why don't we make a group to overthrow them then? It doesn't have to be two!" Ace's eyes lit up, but Maryli gave a non-amused look.
"Do you think we're stupid-"
"I wanna join your secret club. There's bound to be more people that hate these games, especially in our grade. We had worse before our current rulers, so I mean, what's the worse that could happen?"
"The worse? We could be found out!" Maryli hissed. "I'm not joining your little fling, but I won't say anything for the sake of your lives." So, it seemed only Ace and I, but we could gather more students if Ace was telling the truth. Her eyes widen as she looked behind me. "Get out before you get found out." I obliged and walked out before anyone noticed, but I did get pulled by the back of my collar from a hidden figure.
"A secret group to stop the games? Tsk tsk, do you know what you're getting into?"
