pro·cras·ti·na·tion
prəˌkrastəˈnāSH(ə)n
noun
the action of delaying or postponing something.
We've all done it, the microwave starts beeping any you're so comfortable you just tell yourself 'one more cat video' and then get sucked into a deep never ending spiral as your food gets colder and colder just like my frozen dead heart... I mean what??? I'm perfectly normal.
But really I am the worst with procrastination. I put off assignments until the day before they're due (or even twelve am that day), I put off my chores, my room, sometimes even my friends. I blame the internet for this but the truth is I was like this before I had the internet. I had books (dramatic piano music).
Yes, like most writers, I'm a book nerd. I once spent an entire week locked in my room with an entire book series. My parents only saw me when I went to get food. I had a big project due at the end of that week and ended up putting it off until the very last day.
I even procrastinate things I enjoy doing like spending time with my friends or taking out my neighbors dogs. I just get sucked into a book or a series of youtube videos and suddenly it's been three hours. This leads to me often times rushing to get things done. Someone pointed out that my other series A Circle is feeling rushed.
This is always my internal struggle with writing longer stories. If you know me on tumblr, you know that I often write shorts because I feel like I don't have to dwell and develop as much. Which is incredibly weird because I love developing characters and storylines. I like developing background characters and even for A Circle I know exactly what the environment around them looks like.
My useless piece of advice is to slow down. Pace yourself out. Narrow it down to three cat videos (and not three hour-long cat videos... I know your life) and when you've finished those three, move on to something you need to do. When you finish that task... go back to watch three dog videos and repeat.
So, I'm going to slow down on A Circle and push myself even harder to make it the best it can be, including possibly rewriting a few scenes. That might make updates take longer in that series. This one however.... yeah I update when I'm bored. I should probably go text my friend back instead of posting this....
