I just stare at him. He's kidding. He's got to be kidding. This is a joke. He's making fun of me because of my lame problem. That's got to be the reason. What if this entire thing was a joke? What if he doesn't even have business or a dead mom? He just made all that up to mess with me. This... this is a joke. Just a joke.
Man he's a good actor, he looks so serious. I'm surprised he's not cracking up already. Unless he's not acting, but if this isn't a joke then he's crazy. I should just get up, walk away. Go right out that door and never look back. Except to check if he's following me, in which case if he was I'd settle on crazy.
Here I go... I'm gonna leave...
Instead I'm glued to my chair, gaping at him as I work through this in my head. The most intelligible thing I can muster is, "Wh-what?"
"Seems to be the easiest solution, doesn't it?" He says. "I'd have a wife, and you wouldn't be alone anymore."
Okay, I should tell him he's crazy. You can't use marriage as a short-cut! I don't care if he's joking, this isn't funny. I'm gonna tell him off, "... What?"
He leans forward, "It wouldn't be immediately, of course. I would pay for you to finish your college, and you would visit Collis during the breaks."
No... just say no... "Uh-you-I-uh-um-ugh-uff... You're crazy! I don't even know your name! And you don't know me either! I could be like a murder or something-"
"Are you?"
"Of course not!"
"Well now I know."
"Well obviously you're insane. What kind of normal person proposes to a stranger?!"
"Are you normal?" He asks.
"More than you!" I snap.
"Then why aren't you leaving?" He asked.
I jump out off my stool, stare at him for a minute, then walk towards the door. He's crazy. I'm normal. I wouldn't even think of agreeing to this!
"What's your name?" He calls after me.
I stop for a moment, my hand already on the door knob. Don't say it... I'm not gonna say it... "Gypsy, Gypsy Morgan."
I walk out of the shop, slamming the door behind me.
I hate myself.
