Shizuo Heiwajima was walking through the streets of Ikebukuro with Tom doing work. He was pissed off, as usual, and was complaining how about it stinks. After work he started to head home but on the way he tripped over something. He looked to see a bag on the floor. Curiosity got the better of him and he looked inside to find a little girl, he backed up and looked around but didn’t see anyone.
Shit...What do I do?! I need to do something. He thought as he slightly panicked. He grabbed the girl and the bag and ran home. He treated the wounds the best he could but called Shinra to help him take care of her just in case. He sat down next to the knocked out girl and studied her for a little.
She was small, too small. She seemed fragile to him. She has natural tan skin and light brown curly hair. She was in a torn up shirt, and had bruising all over her. It didn’t look like rape to him but it sure as hell was something traumatizing. He hears the doorbell and goes to see Shinra and Celty had arrived. They come in and look at the child in horror. Shinra immediately gets to work while Celty interrogates Shizuo. Celty types on her phone.
“What happened to her?! She looks awful!” Shizuo shrugs and replies.
“I was walking home and tripped over her, she was in a bag on the sidewalk and I panicked so I brought her here and did whatever I could.” Celty looks at Shinra and the little girl with what I believe would be a sad expression.
“I hope she’ll be okay.” Shizuo nods in agreement with her. Shizuo goes to make some tea for everyone and after he finished that comes back to the little girl using Celty’s lap as a pillow and Shinra pacing back and forth. Shizuo goes to ask Shinra about her condition.
“She was beat up badly, surprised she lasted that long, with the bruising and her condition she had to have been like that for at least 3 hours. Wasn’t raped fortunately, but was beat to a pulp. She’s lucky to be alive right now. She was also hit in the head with a metal pipe or something like that, she isn’t internally bleeding but she’s going to feel that for a while.” Shizuo nods at Shinra’s explanation and thinks to himself.
What bastard in their right mind would do something like this to her! I’m going to kill them! Kill, kill, kill… His thoughts were filled with a bloodlust for the bastard. After a while of making sure she was stable, Shinra and Celty left the little girl in the care of Shizuo. He sat down next to her still pretty pissed. Trying to calm himself down he decided not to leave her alone and watched some TV. In the end falling asleep to the sound of the weatherman talking about a sunny day.
The next morning Shizuo woke up to something poking his face. Slowly opening his eyes he sees the little girl who immediately backs up from him to the other side of the couch and stares at him. He remembers what happened and looks at the girl who has emerald green eyes. He clears his throat and finds his voice to speak.
“Hey there. My name is Shizuo. What’s your name?” She looks at him confused for a moment but then smiles and answers with a strong spanish accent and slightly broken Japanese.
“Carissa, where are we?” She asks as she looks around the place.
“We’re at my house do you remember what happened to you last night?” He asks. She thinks.
“I remember being at home...in Morella. I was playing with dolls and then I heard two big bangs. I went down to see what it was and where my parents were but then I...I don’t know, I woke up here.” Shizuo looks in shock at the girl. Thanks to high school geography; he knew that that town was in Spain and that she had to have been sent here illegally. From what she described her parents were shot and she was beat up and sent here. “Hey mister…” Shizuo focuses back on the girl instead of his thoughts to kill. “Where are my parents?” He sighs trying to find the right words. Damn! what am I supposed to say to her?!
“Well…” She frowns and sits on the couch properly, looking at her lap.
“Mommy and daddy are dead, aren’t they?” I look at her still unable to speak. “They were worried about something, I know that. I’ve been told that I’m a very observant 8 year old. They wanted to move to Japan so they could start fresh, it’s why I know the language in the first place. The bangs sounded like the rifle my daddy owns for hunting so I got scared and ran to find them. But I guess it was better for me not to see them dead.” She starts to tear up and balls her tiny hands into fists. Shizuo moves over to her and picks her up to hold her.
She silently cried into him and the tears that soaked in his shirt made him angry, he wanted to hunt these bastards down and kill them but he couldn’t do that. Shizuo only knows one thing to say as he doesn’t know how to take care of a child in this state.
“I’m sorry.” She holds onto him tighter at the words. Then they both hear grumbling coming from Carissa’s stomach.
“You must be hungry, I’ll go make you something alright?” She nods as Shizuo puts her down and goes to make breakfast. While he makes breakfast he keeps a close eye on Carrisa. What the fuck am I supposed to do with a child?! I can’t take care of her and what if those people come for her again? Agh this is bullshit! I finish making the eggs and bacon and bring it to the table. She sits on the other chair and joins me.
It’s quiet for the most part, Shizuo doesn’t really know what to say or do with a child so He kind’ve just observes Carissa. But she catches on and starts a conversation.
“Hey mister…” Shizuo looks up at her. “What’s your last name?” With a puzzled look on his face he answers.
“Heiwajima.” She nods.
“So Mr. Heiwajima, what do you do for a living?” He smiles at her politeness.
“I’m a bodyguard, and you can call me Shizuo if you want.” She smiles at him and her eyes light up.
“That’s so cool! You must do some really important work if that’s the case.” Shizuo smiles and rubs the back of his neck with a slight laugh.
“Sort’ve I mostly help this guy named Tom collect money from people who owe our company. Nothing really big.” She smiles and she kicks her legs back and forth under the table.
“Are you kidding me?! That sounds awesome, you protect people and that sounds cool!” He looks away unable to look Carissa in the face as he says this.
“I more or less just end up hurting people really…” She tilts her head and takes a minute before answering.
“Do you have a bad temper?” Shizuo nods and looks at her, it wasn’t fear or anything of the sort it was just interest. “Well I still think the job is pretty cool.” He gently smiles at Carrisa and asks her a question.
“So what was is like in Spain?” She smiles and starts talking really fast.
“It was fun, I had a large backyard to play in and I had so much fun. I was homeschooled so I didn’t have a lot of friends so I was alone most of the time. I didn’t have any other family other than my mommy and daddy but that was fine.” Carissa goes quiet for a little while. “I guess I’m alone now.” Shizuo feels a pang in his heart from that statement and grabs her hand.
“No way are you alone, I’m sure of it that you’ll meet nice people that will take care of you.” Carissa looks at Shizuo with hope in her eyes.
“Can you take care of me?” I shake my head.
“I’m not exactly the type of guy you want to be around.” Carissa scoots her chair closer to Shizuo.
“Please! You’re nice and I don’t know anyone else!” Carissa looks at Shizuo with a scared look in her green eyes. Shizuo doesn’t know how to respond, a part of him wants to give in but the other feels as though she’d be better off without him. As if on cue to save him the doorbell rang. Shizuo stand up and go to open the door to see Celty and Shinra.
“Hey Shizuo, we came to see if that little girl is okay.” Types Celty on her phone. Shizuo lets them in and leads them towards the little girl. Shizuo’s thankful for them coming so he doesn’t have to talk about being her adoptive parent. Celty says hi and hangs out with the little girl as Shizuo talks with Shinra.
“She wants me to take care of her…” Shinra looks in shock.
“Are you thinking about it?” I shrug.
“Kind’ve, I’ll probably end up killing her though. She’d be better off without me.” Shizuo looks at her. “She’s a beautiful girl. She deserves normal and I’m far from that. I’d get her hurt, probably worse than what those guys did to her.” Shinra looks at Shizuo with concern. He’s known him for so long as a friend and feels like he should say something, but he doesn’t know what.
Celty comes over with Carissa hanging off of her arm. Then she types on her phone saying that “I think you should keep her. She very much so reminds me of you.” Shinra internally thanks Celty but Shizuo looks at Carissa with worry. The little girl smiles up at him with a nod.
“I feel safe with you, please!” Carissa begs Shizuo.
“We’ll help you if you need it Shizuo.” Shinra says joining the other side. Shizuo looks at all of them and in the end he agreed and adopted Carissa.
