The prince left his home with his friend, and the two ran off on their journey to find the mystery man. When they found him, the prince told the man what he wished for, and he told him, “You are in good hands, young one, and you will be the most handsome prince anyone has ever seen.”
After the mystery man transformed him into a very charming prince, the prince was escorted to his friend’s house, where he stayed for a few days before being taken home. He disguised himself as the princess his parents saw him as before, so he could surprise his them before they find out.
When his mother answered the door, his friend began to feel nauseous and worried.
“Mother, I wish to discuss something with you and father,” the prince said. “Do you have a minute, by any chance?”
“Of course,” his mother told him, walking his and his friend inside. The prince sat his parents down after having some tea and stood before them. He smiled at his parents and took a deep breath.
“How was your trip, sweetheart?” The prince’s father asked him.
“It went well,” the prince told him. “Much better than I expected.”
“Well that’s great!” His mother said. She then noticed there was something different about her child. “Is… is that what you wish to discuss with us?”
The prince nodded. He opened his mouth to say something, but his friend reached for his hand. “Are you certain you’re ready to tell them?” His friend asked.
“I’m quite certain,” he told his friend, although he felt otherwise.
His parents exchanged glances and waited for the prince to say something. They had no idea what to expect from their child. The prince took a deep breath.
“My friend and I have gone to see a mysterious man,” the prince explained to his deer parents. “We gave him an offering, and he granted me a wish.”
“What was your wish?” His mother asked.
“To be a prince,” the prince told them. “I grew up feeling out of place in this world, because it felt wrong for me to be… to be a princess When I met my friend here, he helped me realize that I was actually meant to be a prince all along. He helped me search for the mysterious man, and he transformed me into the prince I was meant to be!”
The prince removed his disguise and revealed his true self. “Isn’t this amazing??” He said to his parents, grinning from ear to ear. “I have never felt such happiness in quite a long time… Are you proud of me?”
His parents were silent. They both exchanged glances and looked back at him, they both had this mortified and confused look on their faces, as though they were staring at a stranger His father whispered something in his mother’s ear.
“I’m not going anywhere,” the prince’s mother insisted.
“Go. Now,” his father demanded.
It didn’t take much for his mother to give in to his father’s command. He watched as his mother exited the room.
“H-how could you even do such a thing?” The prince’s father began to sound furious. “Why would you even do such a thing?!” He started yelling more at the prince. “You were never meant to be a prince! You were born a princess for a reason!”
His friend grabbed his hand gently. “We must leave,” he whispered to the prince. “Now!”
The prince listened to his friend’s words, but he did not move.“W-why are you so upset?” the prince asked his father, completely confused. He didn’t understand why his father was being so cruel to him. “Where did mother go? Why isn’t she here? Is she upset with me too?”
“Of course she is!” His father yelled. “You think she would be as happy as you are for being something that you’re not?! You are a girl!”
“I am not a girl!” The prince said. “I was never a girl in the first place! I am a boy! I have been a boy all my life! Why can’t you be proud of me for finally discovering who I really am?!”
“I can’t stand to look at you right now…” The angry man looked over that the prince’s friend. “Leave!”
The prince’s friend had enough of this man’s angry words. He begged for his friend to stop arguing and to go away with him, and once the prince agreed with him, the two boys ran out the door. The prince couldn’t hear his father anymore and hoped that he could forget everything that happened.
