Dear Nobody,
I always describe my works as the products of insomnia normally cause I write or edit them late at night. My insomnia is mainly from the medication I take and hormones. For a solid month, I wasn't getting to sleep until eight am and I was expected to be up and ready for my teacher at ten. I wouldn't nap in the afternoon and I'd take the dogs out for long walks to try and wear myself out. It failed miserably.
The first thing doctors will go to when you're having trouble sleeping is normally melatonin. I've taken melatonin a lot so here are some tips. You aren't supposed to go above 9mg so for three days work up to 9mg and then stay at that for two to three days then quit for one or two days then work back up. This way your body doesn't get used to the amount of melatonin you're taking and melatonin should work longer. Next tip is to get cherry flavored melatonin chews and take them with non-caffeinated coke. This is a tip from my sister who claims it tastes like cherry coke. I haven't done this cause I cut out all soft drinks from my life.
Turning your devices off for an hour may work but if you aren't getting to sleep until eight am and you turn off all of your devices at ten you might go crazy. That was how I started writing at night. I wrote in a little book just to have something to do.
If your doctor gives you sleeping meds follow their orders to the core. I had a member of my family overdose continually and had to go to therapy. Sleeping pills should not be messed with.
Try making your bed. I probably sound like your parent but genuinely most people prefer to be cuddled up in blankets that are neat. Fluff your pillow get comfy.
Insomnia can be infuriating so don't just take my tips. Everyone is different and what works for me might not work for you. Take to google and look up other things to try and help. You're not the only one up at 4am.
Thank you for listening,
The WritingEvil
