Courage. It's a big word. Powerful. Undescribable. Yet, it exists so little in the world. But, when she put on those headphones, blocking out the sounds of the city, busy and rushing about, society telling them how to define beauty, riches, and love; she found herself with courage.
The music beated against her ears, probably killing her eardrums with every lyric. But, she couldn’t find it in herself to remove it. Courage fascinated her, wrapped her in a blanket of a comfort woven together by the threads of fantasy and a needle of realism.
Time slowed for her, cars moved by in a speed where she could actually see the passengers faces, some angry while others looked sorrowful. People slowed, their expressions just as clear under the foggy sky.
Her hands reached up for a moment, almost as if to remove the music from her ears but the words became clear, no longer buzzing with the bass. They wrapped around her brain like a fog, emotions running rampant until they finally worked themselves out. Like children, they chose to share, leaving selfishness behind when friendship was at stake. One by one, they became addressed as unmotivated, depressed, and frustrations that poured into anger. Once again, each changed to inspired, lifted, and a happiness that poured into energy.
Turning on her heel, she walked away from the street crosswalk and down the sidewalk to a rusty antique store. Why? She had no clue but she spent the next hour or so, letting the music change and with it, her direction. Never though, never did her speed change. She stayed steady on her route, confident that while she might not be there in the next minute, hour, day or even decade, she would get there. That's all that matters.
To decide that, takes courage.
