Chapter 13:"I had never in my life seen a guy do an impression of Beyoncé, better than herself.”
Fair Night Part III
The night had been bewildering to say the least. After my mini break to the washroom to free myself from the gallons of water I had, we headed towards the more fun part of the night.
Alastair had never once left my side throughout the night; even when he had to go to washroom because, a guy had accidentally spilled some drink on his T-shirt. After finally convincing that I wasn't going to run anywhere, he had gone to wash off the stain on his T-shirt.
As most of the front side of his T-shirt had become wet, it was clinging to him in all the right places. That was a sight even Cara Delevingne would have not refused. Boy, the guy was totally built and it had been hard not to stare at those abs. His smug expressions confirmed that he had caught me staring at him longer than necessary.
We had pretty much been at all the small stalls-which hosted the small games. Alastair got me a teddy bear half of my size by shooting the balloons. I had panicked when he took off in the direction of the stall but, he quickly reassured me that there would be no repeat of the scene from earlier that night. Proudly showing off his shooting skills, he handed me the teddy bear.
Now, we were sitting at a table eating greasy fast food. Trying to get as much food in as possible as we still had a long night to look forward to. Not to deny that we had to balance the amount of alcohol we had assumed until now. Alastair had made sure to let me try out every alcoholic drink. We both were grinning madly towards each other as we had the second plate of chicken wings. Alastair passed me a tissue to wipe my hands of all the oil. I leaned back in my chair as I had some of the drink Alastair had made for me-a mix of Vodka and Pepsi. Safe to say I was going to have a bad hangover in the morning but, I didn't regret tonight even for a second.
"So, Miss.Brown is the night turning out to be fine?” He smirked at me.
"No, Mr.Barton." I said making sure to keep a straight face. The alcohol wasn't helping at all.
"Why? Did I do something wrong? Did I hurt you in any way?" His face dropped a little at my reply and concern marked his expressions.
"Well, it has been much more than fine. I'd like to say best night since I moved here." I replied smiling widely.
And it was true, I hadn't enjoyed this much since college started.
At this, his face broke out in a smile all the worries fading away. I'd prefer him like this all my life.
"Don't you play with me?" he warned me playfully.
"What would you do? Punish me?" Teasing him I slid out of my chair and stood up.
I had no idea where all this confidence was coming from. This alcohol was making me do things I never did-was it a good thing or not? Or maybe it was the boy in front of you? my subconscious reminded me.
"Something like that yes." He followed my route and we dumped the waste into the dustbin.
As we left the food stalls behind and moved towards the rides, I heard the sound of music. I looked over at Alastair." Do you wanna go there? There's a dance floor over there." he asked me.
"Ohh, yes please." I grinned at him and we made our way over there.
The ending part of No More Sad Songs was playing as we reached the dance floor. People were dancing their hearts out, enjoying the moment. The energy was so surreal that I had no idea when I had tugged Alastair's hand and joined the crowd.
It had been songs and songs after that, but we danced our hearts out. Alastair danced next to me, making sure no one crossed their limits. He hadn't noticed that I was observing his every shove he made when a guy came too close. He had danced goofily, not caring about people staring at us. Purposely dancing bad, so that I would laugh.
We danced to every Pop song played and Alastair doing bad impressions of the singers. I was the one doing the bad impressions, he was too good at those.
I had never in my life seen a guy do an impression of Beyoncé better than herself.
I really wanted to dance at one of my favorite songs, so I decided to make a request to the DJ, "I'll be back in a minute." I said to Alastair as I made my way through the crowd.
"But, where are you going?" he asked me loudly enough, so I could hear him over the music.
"Just give me two minutes." I said shaking my head.
I made my way over to the DJ, trying to get through as fast as possible between the mass of bodies.
"Hey, can you play this song for me?" I smiled at the DJ.
"Yeah, sure." He replied and read the name of the song.
"Coming right up." He said to me. Thanking him, I took off towards Alastair.
He smiled as I got closer, "Where did you go?"
"You will know, shortly,” Just as I said this, the song started.
"Now, watch and follow." I said to him smiling widely.
He just shook his head and smiled at me, "Alright."
I started moving and throwing my hands up in the air to the music. Alastair followed my every step. At the bass drop, I did the signature step of Kar Gayi Chull -moving my right hand in circular motions and keeping my left hand in front of me.
In the middle of the song Alastair asked me, "What is the meaning of the lyrics?"
"Kar Gayi Chull means the girl made me lose my senses." I told him still moving to the beats of the song.
"This one definitely suits you." he simply said, leaving me to blush madly.
After dancing for some more songs, we decided that it was enough dancing for one night and left the dance floor. Grabbing some orange juice-with no alcohol in it, we walked through the fair. We both had definitely sobered up after the dancing. It was somewhat close to midnight, and most people had started leaving.
We came to stop near the entrance of the Ferris Wheel. Alastair turned to me, “This is the only ride we haven't been on. You ready for this?"
I nodded my head and we got in the line. As, we got in our car Alastair told the guy at the gates to stop our car at the top. I motioned him as to ask why and all he did was say to me, “You will see."
The cars started moving and I gripped the sides strongly. Alastair noticed my discomfort from the sides and asked, “Are you afraid of heights?"
"A little bit." I replied softly.
He just scoffed at my reply, “A little bit? You look like you have seen a ghost."
Getting up, he motioned for me to shift. He sat next to me and put his left hand over my shoulder asking, “Is this okay?"
Too shocked from the height and the closeness, I just nodded. Slowly and steadily we completed first revolution. As long as the speed didn't get too fast, I was okay.
I relaxed as he placed his hand on my shoulder and tugged me closer to him. As wind past us, I shivered not only because of it but, also the realization dawned on me.
I was alone in a car with Alastair at a height, with him hugging me sideways.
Alastair. Height. Car. Alone. Him Hugging me.
I would probably die if I TRIED jumping from here.
We both were silent as the Ferris wheel continued its revolutions. Looking out and around the fair, the car slowly came to a halt. That's when I realized that the guy at the gates had stopped because of Alastair's strange request.
Alastair stood up, tugging at my hand for me to follow him. I stood up and looked around and that's when i understood why Alastair had made that strange request.
The view of the city from the top was so beautiful that it couldn't be put into words. The people walking around the fair looked small and all the lights made it look something out of a fairy tale. The top pf the Ferris wheel overlooked the city and the night time made it all wonderful. All the buildings were beautifully lit up because of the lights.
"Isn't this beautiful?" Alastair spoke so softly that I almost didn't hear him.
"Yes, it is. I have never seen something so beautiful in my life." I replied looking at the view.
"Not more than you, though." he replied looking at me.
I sucked in a breath at his words, too surprised to reply. I looked over at him and he was looking at me in a strange manner. He looked a lot different in the moment. Too different from the usual playful Alastair I knew. Too serious.
Suddenly, the gap between us was too small. The car felt too small. I was staring at him and his eyes showed a different emotion. It was as if there were only two people in the world-me and him, no one else.
I didn't look anywhere else, afraid that if I did the moment would be gone and I never wanted this night to be over.
"You are so beautiful, Mae." Alastair said as he tugged a hair behind my ear. His gaze flickered down to my lips for a moment and I wondered how it would feel to kiss him.
So, without thinking I crashed my lips against his. He was shocked at first but, after a second he kissed me back with all his strength.
My hands moved towards the back of his neck and his circled my waist trying to pull me closer. There was no space left between us as we kissed as our lives depended on it.
Our moment was broken by a loud bang. We both broke apart, faces red. Realizing that the bang was due to the fireworks, we looked up. The sky was filled with beautiful lights as one after another firework were fired. Alastair tugged me closer as we looked up to the sky.
There was no better way to end the already amazing night.
But, I made the mistake of looking down and that's when I blacked out.
