Then I saw it piece together in my mind.
“DROP THE GUN!” A police officer rushed into the streets and grabbed the man and put him in handcuffs, then confiscated his gun.
Later when we were walking home it hit me, everyone was walking, even Lucas. I turned around to Lucas with my eyes wide looking down at his legs. I grabbed his collar and slammed him into the sidewalk and raised my fist towards Lucas and screamed.
“WHY ARE YOU WALKING!” I screamed at him when his dad turned around in confusion.
“Yeah he’s walking…” His dad said confused.
“HE TOLD ME HE WAS PARALYZED!” I screamed.
“YOU LIAR!” I punched him.
“STOP!” His dad screamed.
“WHY!” I started to burst into tears.
“I’ve already lost my family, and I almost lost you, but I guess I shouldn’t let my guard down with your elaborate schemes.” I got up and walked back to the house as Lucas tried to explain, the next morning I waited until everybody had eaten and was upstairs getting ready for the day, then I snuck downstairs and ate my platter of breakfast awaiting me. As I walked upstairs Lucas went to walk into the bathroom but I rushed in front of him and did my regular stuff and got out. My hair curled lightly since I decided blow drying is for desperate fashion models. I hopped downstairs and walked out the door to go and see Chief Dillon and Martha for the day.
Later that afternoon I got back and realized the lights weren’t on, I walked in quietly thinking everyone was asleep, then I saw everyone out back, that’s when I realized the police car across the street. But I didn’t see Lucas. I walked out back and saw fear in everyone’s eyes.
“Uh, what’s wrong?” My heart started to beat faster.
“Lucas- he ran away and left this…” Lucas’ mom handed me a note reading,
Dear Sabene, It has come to my senses that you do not share the same affection to me as I do to you, what I have done is wrong and I can not fix it. Therefore I have left, don’t try to find me, don’t try to bring me back home. I feel that I can’t live with what I’ve done, ever again. I did that so maybe we could spend more time together. But it’s too late, It was nice meeting you Sabene, see you in the clouds, Lucas.
I ran out and screamed Lucas, over and over. But nothing. So I ran, and ran, and ran. It was harder to see as the sky got darker but the lights in buildings and cars helped a lot more than just a flashlight. Then I saw him over a hill I ran up.
“LUCAS!” I screamed. He turned his head and started to run. Obviously I was much faster than him so I didn’t cut him any slack. I caught up to him and tackled him. Holding my arm on his throat.
“Remember, I’m faster than you, and that was an awful escape for-” My eyes widened as Lucas held a gun and lifted it to his head.
“I’ll shoot, now let me go…” He said.
“Lucas, this isn’t you!” I cried.
“Lucas, I like you! But what you did won’t leave me!” I continued.
“That’s why I need to leave…” He pressed his finger against the trigger but a click came out instead, It was empty. A sigh of relief overcame me when the click rang through the air. Lucas’ head came up and kissed me, then I grabbed his hair and smashed his head on the ground and punched him.
“I told you if you kissed me again I would mess you up…” I spoke upset.
