I'm not a true child of the Scottinghams. I was adopted in London while Jennifer and Anthony were taking a business trip. They took me in on the last week of their stay because they had already completed their work. It was early January and I was meeting their sons for the first time.

I was sitting on the couch in front of two boys. One was smiling brightly while the other was reading a book and ignoring my existence. A maid had given me a small smile and placed a plate with cookies that had just came out of the oven. It smelled delicious but I didn't to be rude by taking some without being invited to. The maid walked away, leaving us 5 in an awkward silence. Jennifer had cleared her throat. "Boys, why don't you introduce yourself?" The reader had sighed and put his book down. " My name is Clovis. My idiotic older brother's name is Lucas. There, I'm done. May I leave now father?" He grabbed his book. "Clovis! How could you say that? Do you know who she is?!" Father exclaimed. I stared at the floor. My heart was racing. Was there going to be a fight between the two? Just like in the orphanage? I whimpered quietly. "Can I go back home?" I asked quietly. They all just stared at me. "......Why would you ask that?" Jennifer asked. "I don't want to bother anyone. If my presence causes arguments, then I would rather not tear a family apart." I explained. Lucas looked at me with a sad expression on his face. Clovis had a stone heart. "Yes, go back home. I will call your parents. What are they're names? " He asked as he stood up. "Their names are Jennifer and Anthony." His mother said angrily. Clovis' eyes had widened. "What?! You can't be serious!" Jennifer turned to me gave me a kind smile. "Introduce yourself, sweety." I nodded my head and took a deep breath. "My name is Jamie. I am now your sister." Lucas grinned widely while Clovis looked like he was going to be sick. Lucas gave me a large hug. "Yay! I have a little sister!" He pressed his cheek against mine. "You're....smothering....me." I managed to say. Lucas let go and gave me a nervous chuckle. "Sorry. I got excited for a second." I giggled. "It's fine." I said. "No it's not!" Clovis yelled. Everyone went silent. "And why is that?" His father asked angrily. "I don't need another sibling! Especially when she doesn't the family's blood inside of her!" I pursed my lips. "Young man, how dare you!" Anthony grabbed him by his shirt. "Bring it old man!" Within 2 seconds, there was screaming and shouting filling up the room. "Enough!" I screamed. Everyone turned to me. "Enough is enough. I've had it with tearing families apart. Just send me away. Please!" I begged. I began to sob. Lucas knelt down beside me. "Its alright. No need to cry. Its just a..... small argument. It's what people do." I shook my head. "People who put their hands on others aren't human. I'm not saying Anthony is a human and he isn't allowed to get angry at Clovis but he could handle things in a different way." I wiped my eyes. The others stared at me with awe. "What?" I asked. "How are you so smart?" Clovis asked slowly. Me? Smart? Anthony smiled and patted my head. "You're absolutely right, Jamie. This is the reason we want you in our family. You are a perfect fit." Lucas nodded but Clovis avoided eye contact. "So, what do you say? Do you still want to leave?" Lucas asked. I shook my head. "Nope!" I giggled. "Oh and by the way, how old are you?" He asked. "3. I'm going to be 4 soon." I replied. "Adorable!" He gave me a hug again. That was when I knew, I had finally found the right family.
