I never enjoy working late at the office. Never was, and never will be. But I'll be going abroad for holiday for about 2 weeks, so, like it or not, I have to get all my job done before I leave. And there I was, standing all alone in the train station, waiting for the last train home. It was pretty cold that night. I really need to jump on the train, which was a lot warmer than standing on the station's platform, right away.
When the train arrived, I immediately jumped in and took a seat on the chair right across the door. There were 2 other passengers seated in the same passenger car as me when the train departed.
I thought it will be just another boring ride home like I spent the last few days.
I was wrong.
When the train just about to leave the station, in another spot of the station platform I saw a man wearing a black suit and using a black umbrella. It was an absurd scene to see someone using an umbrella under the roof, so I stared at the man for a while. Then I noticed that this man was also wearing a mask. A mask in a shape of a bird's face. A creepy white plague mask.
That vision instantly brought an eerie feeling to my skin and a chill to my spine. Thank god I already on the train and didn't passed by him earlier on the station.
I was wrong. Again.
It took five train stations from where I departed to my home station. and the train I was in didn't stop at each station, except for the last two. It only speeds down upon passing by the other three stations.
Now, since it was slowing down when passing the next station that I noticed that I saw the umbrella man again, in the supposedly empty train station. And it was not one. There were two of them. He was standing side by side with another person who was wearing blouse and skirt, presumably a woman, but also using a black umbrella and wearing that white plague mask with an other-worldly creepy vibe. Staring right at me from the station's platform.
And I hope it was just me being paranoid, but it seemed like they were standing much closer to the railway than when I saw the man earlier on the previous station.
The train goes off again, leaving the station. "That was just my hallucination. They weren't actually there", I told myself, "because I'm tired from working too much and lack of sleep".
I was wrong. Again.
In order to keep my sanity, I was focusing on my phone, reading news, stories, social media, etc. Anything that I thought could keep me from the hallucination. Until the train slowing down again upon reaching the next station. And I saw them again. The umbrella men with an other-worldly-creepy white plague mask.
I was sure it wasn't just me. They did standing closer to the railway every time the train passed them on the next station. And now there were three of them standing there. Standing much closer to the railway than the last time. Three umbrella men, wearing a creepy white plague mask. Three of them. THREE!
WHAT THE FUCK!
Why did they number up every time the train passed them?!
I had the feeling that I needed to get out of this train A.S.A.P. but the train wouldn't stop until two last stations. So, I did what thought best at the time: praying.
Then I remember that there were also 2 other passengers in this passenger car with me, both were sitting in the opposite corner of the car. And both of them were sitting on the seat across me, so I was sure they didn't see what I saw. I looked at the passenger who sat in the right corner. A woman. Seemed like she was asleep. So I turned my head to the left, to see the other one. A man in a hiking outfit. I remember it clearly because he was a big guy and wearing a hiking backpack with him, so it caught my eyes when he entered the train and passed me by.
Yes, he was there. Sitting straight up. With a black umbrella on his hand. Opened. And he was wearing a creepy white plague mask.
HOLY SHIT!
The feel of horror started to consume me. The eerie feeling was getting intense.
But he didn't seem like he was about to do anything. He just sat still there, straight up. So, I turned my head back to my cell phone, continue doing what I did earlier. Trying to act as if nothing had happened. My heart beat faster and harder than it did in my entire life, and there was nothing I could do to stop it. But I still couldn't keep my thought off of that umbrella man inside the train.
I mean, how could I? HE WAS INSIDE THE TRAIN, GODDAMMIT!
So I stole a glance at that man again, which I immediately regretted. I was sure it's not just me being paranoid. He actually did sit closer to me. Not far closer. But, still, closer.
I glanced on the female passenger sitting on the opposite corner. She was still asleep.
I prayed to God that whoever this man is, he was not getting close to me. "Just stay where you were", I thought.
I was wrong. Again.
I stole a glance at the man again, he clearly sat closer to me. A far closer that time. But, apart from acting creepy, he didn't do anything yet, so I didn't think it's a nice decision if I attacked him first. Not to mention that he was bigger than me.
And then things went more horrifying than I thought it could. While his one hand still holding the umbrella, the man pulled an axe out of his backpack with the other hand.axe out of his backpack with the other hand.
SHIT! I was about to scream in panic and horror, but my voice didn't come out.
The man didn't move yet. Not standing. Not sitting closer. Not yet. I couldn't move my body too. I was frozen in horror for minutes, or hours, or... I didn't know. It was the most terrifying moment of my life.the most terrifying moment of my life.
Before I knew it, the door across me was opened. The train finally arrived at the second last station. I pulled myself together and I jumped out of the train and ran outside. The fastest I could. I was still quite far from home, but I better walked home that far than staying on the train with that creep!
Upon reaching the train station's exit, I saw a woman got out of the station in front of me. From the outfit, she looked like the female passenger who was with me on the train.
I couldn't keep my curiosity, so, I was about to chase the woman, and asked her if she also saw that umbrella man inside the train. At the very least, I'd know if it was actually just my hallucination or not. But when I stepped out of the station, it rains. I didn't bring any umbrella, so I put on my jacket's hoodie, while the woman in front of me opened her umbrella.
Just as I walked, a car suddenly stopped beside me. "Hey Alex, working late again?", asked the man who drove the car. It was Jed, my neighbour. "Jed? what are you doing here?", I asked him. "I just drove my brother to the airport", he replied. "Come in", he opened his car's door as he said it.
When I jumped in his car, I noticed that the female passenger that I was about to talk to was stopped. She was just there, standing still on the sidewalk, under the rain.
"Why did you get off the train here? It's closer to home if you got off on the last station", Jed asked, as he drove his car and went home.
"Well...", I was about to answer his question when his car passed by the woman. And when I tried to see how her face looked like from the rearview mirror, I saw that she was wearing a mask. A mask in a shape of a bird's face. A creepy white plague mask. And she was staring at the car.
