The Key Master - Autobiography

Chapter IX

Chapter IX

Aug 19, 2017

‘Get ready boys, we are nearly there!’ Wido screamed turning his head towards us and immediately after that our eyes filled with warm yellow light.

We left the tunnel behind and now were rushing through rows of short houses that were carved into the stone walls. They had street lamps on each house that was lit up with some kind of yellow stones.

‘They don’t use fire here, I suppose… yeah, it would be difficult to get rid of the smoke in these caves. But then… they don’t cook their meet and that means that they were going to eat us raw! Mad!’ I was murmuring to myself turning my head around in amazement.

Raising my head up I saw that this cavern was enormously huge, at least ten times bigger than the first one where we encountered Widogast. We started charging through the streets of this village making turns every second. Wido stood up with reins in his hand and now he could clearly see where to steer the boars, because he was much higher than the roofs of these houses. Village looked like a huge maze with all these wall-like structures with no windows. Boars squeaked and roared loudly to everyone’s notice, every door that we left behind was already open and goblins were looking through them following us with their eyes.

TRRRRUUUUUU!!!

Horns started rattling all over the cavern with terrifying might. Wido pulled his left arm with great force and we made a sharp turn to the left,

‘Hang in there, boys! We made it half way through! Hahaha!’ now he seemed much younger than when we first met him. Here and now with this smile and fire in his eyes, he looked like he has had a very dangerous and adventurous past with lots of jokes to tell about how he managed to get away from situations even riskier than this one.

‘Aargh!’ I’ve heard Senka’s scream from behind, turning my head back, I saw how a little goblin was grabbing the edge of a cart with his crooked fingers and was flying around and apparently trying to stop us.

‘No way Senka could kill him…’ a swift thought ran through my mind only a second before I saw how Senka helped this dreadful creature to climb the cart.

‘Senka!’ I shouted at him, ‘What?.. What’s that?!’ I was too shocked to find words. Back in our first cavern I trusted him and we became friends with Wido, but now it was beyond my comprehension. Helping out a goblin when we were trying to escape their village was too reckless.

‘Ufff… Cough… Thank… you…’ goblin lied down on his back in the middle of the cart and started coughing. His stomach was covered in purple liquid that had the same texture as human’s blood does, but had a strange smell to it and was leaking from his pockets.

‘Senka! What are you thinking about? Explain that!’ I pointed my knife at the goblin that was swirling like a worm between us.

‘He asked for help and I thought…’

‘You thought what? You thought what?! That it is a great idea to take him with us? Aaargh! Now what we are going to do with him?’

Wido made another sharp turn and I fell on my knees almost hitting the goblin and Senka fell out of the cart! He barely had time to grab the wooden edge of the cart, now he was flying around like this twisted goblin did seconds ago.

‘Aah! Sorry, Senka! I couldn’t make it softer!’ Wido was shouting at us, ‘Tariq! Help him! Quick! I can’t release the reins and what the hell is that filthy brat is doing here on our cart?’ I understood that he asked about the goblin, but I had no time to answer him.

I stepped over the lying goblin and grabbed Senka’s hand. He was too heavy for me to lift him up instantly, so we had to wait for one more turn, but this time in another direction so I could pull him up with the help of rotation force.

‘Tariq! Behind you!’ Senka shouted with a terror in his face.

I turned my head back and saw how goblin was standing right behind me with a grin on his mug. He was holding some king of purple fruits in the left hand and a knife in the right hand.

‘Now they will definitely accept me into the legion… Grr…’ Goblin started mumbling, his voice was deeper than those two I previously heard, but had the same gurgling trait, ‘I will kill these humans and the king will honor me for sure… Sss… bad hoomans, baad…’

He looked like a wild beast that saw an easy opportunity to kill his pray. I released Senka’s hand and grabbed my knife.

‘Senka… Hang in there for a little bit longer, please…’ I whispered to myself, ‘Now I understand what Nimrod meant when he told us back then in the Cold Valley ‘in this world humans can be predators and can be pray, and only we, hunters, have the privilege to choose where do we belong’’ and after this quote rushed through my lips I shouted to Wido, ‘TURN RIGHT! NOW!’

I saw a surprised look on goblins face, he tried to regain balance, but it was too late. Widogast made a sharp turn to the right, goblin started falling backwards and my blade flickered with blue litght through the darkness and pierced the foe right between the ribs. His true blood started spilling all over the cart and it actually had a violet tint to it. From now on I will remember how true goblin’s blood looks like and won’t be fooled twice. The force of the turn was too strong for him to stay on the cart, his legs tripped over the wooden edge and he started falling backwards. His body collapsed right between the wheels and when he finally touched the ground wheels hopped on the corpse. Widogast felt the hit and turned his head back,

‘What was that?’ then he noticed a dead goblin’s body that was lying on the ground as we were moving away from it, ‘Aahh… I see! Tariq! Why Senka is still hanging there on the edge?’

‘Because he is being punished…’ I whispered to myself and turned my head to Senka.

It seems that Wido hadn’t seen what happened here right now between me and that goblin, nevertheless he obeyed my command only because I shouted with no doubt in my voice. This is what it means to have a teamwork and trust in each other,

‘But you are something else, Senka… and now, I have no choice. I hope you will change your attitude before you get killed next time trying to help someone out…’ I sighed and helped Senka to climb the cart during the next turn to the right.

‘By the way, we are almost out from this crazy maze! Look there is a tunnel there! Hope for the best that this one will lead us to the lands of freedom this time! Hahah!’ Widogast shouted cheerfully, ‘Prepare your Azure Lights, we are close!’

The only thing that concerned me right now more than Senka’s terrible attitude was that horns still rattled with the same force as before.

"I’m not a writer and never wanted to be one. However, I feel obliged to write down everything that I’ve seen in my life. Most of the ballads and songs are written by people that had never seen or been to the events that they describe, thus, not me. I have talked with the Dragons that were deceived by Sky Tribes. I have been to the bottom of the ocean and have seen how cruel Tribes of the Sea could be. I have seen how Gnomes of Kuranna forged their blades and crossbows. I have spell books from Elves of Uyaranna in my library. I have been running away from goblin caves countless times. I have been everywhere and seen almost everything (at least I cannot think of something I hadn’t seen). That is why I feel that this book will be interesting for future generations to study upon." - The Key Master
