My eyes snapped open. The noise of the train station rang in my ears. I sighed and looked up at the train I would be riding to Hogwarts. I looked at Silver and inhaled shakily as the luggage was taken and put away. I looked over at my aunt, father and mother. They were all talking to these people I couldn’t see. I walked over to them slowly, my mother smiled at me and pulled me into the circle. I recognized the couple looking down at me after a moment. I had seen them in pictures my mother and aunt had shown me while telling me about the wizarding world.
Scorpius Malfoy and Rose Malfoy nee Weasley. Scorpius, a tall man with ash blonde hair, grey eyes and porcelain skin. He wore a black button up with black dress pants and Malfoy House crest on his shirt pocket. Rose, a woman with a graceful body and a mess with frizzy red hair in a ponytail and round brown eyes with porcelain skin. I stood there tensely, staring up at the couple.
“Look at the poor thing, I told Scorpius to wear something more casual but he insisted this is a very important part of a wizard or witch’s life.” Rose giggled. She had a warm soft voice filled with life. It was much more comforting than my mother’s which has been stiff and filled with fake joy since my brother disappeared. “Well it is, Rose!” laughed Susan with the same happiness of Rose. “She should meet our darling children!” Rose cooed. Scorpius wore a slightly nervous smile. “Indeed she should.” he spoke with a slightly stiff voice. He looked over his shoulder and called out to the crowd of the train station.
Soon, four children appeared. “Our oldest,” Rose chirped placing a hand on the shoulder of the tallest child. A male. “Dixon Charles Malfoy!” bellowed Rose proudly. He had smoothed down ash blonde hair like his father but round brown eyes and a small mess of freckles on his cheeks and neck. He wore a black sweater and tight fitting jeans with black dress shoes. “Oh my! What a handsome boy!” gasped Susan. My father grunted and my mother giggled.
Dixon stepped forward, he grabbed my hand and looked me up and down. I felt my face heat up and my chest tighten. “Selene.” I spoke softly bowing my head. I was suddenly much more conscious of how I looked. I had my father’s hair color, light bronze, and my mother’s flat naturally straight hair texture. I had my mother’s darker skin that was just a hue lighter since my father was so pale. I was very thin. Deathly thin. I hated it. I felt so small and weak now. I had never noticed how thin until now with this Malfoy son’s eyes on me. I was wearing a white blouse tucked into a black skirt with black stockings and black shoes. He thought my grey-blue eyes were weird. I could tell because he wouldn’t look away from them.
“Pleasure to meet you.” he spoke with a sophisticated voice taking my hand into his. It was smooth but cold like ice. He brought my knuckles to his lips and placed a soft kiss upon them. I felt my face heat up. “What a gentleman.” my mother chirped with that same false happiness. It shot an arrow into the shield that had formed around me and this boy. “Last time I saw this little charmer he was only four years old!” Susan giggled. I pulled my hand from Dixon and looked at my feet as he stepped back into line. “He is a second year now.” Scorpius spoke with a small proud smile. “Our second oldest, Calanthe Sophia Malfoy.” the mother cooed once more as the second tallest child stepped forth.
She had strawberry blonde locks tied back into a tight braid. She had cold grey eyes like her father and a beauty mark on the left side of her mouth. She was wearing a white ruffled blouse with a black polka dot skirt and white knee socks with black dress shoes. She smiled warmly at me and bowed her head. “Pleasure to meet you, Selene.” she cooed. She was wearing make-up; mascara, lipgloss and slight eye shadow. “She will be a first year.” spoke Scorpius with a small grin. Rose then moved to the last two children.
They were twins. “This is Ava and Jackson. They will be heading to Hogwarts in two years.” Rose chirped. They had messes of red curls and light brown eyes. They both had freckles on their noses and rosy cheeks and noses. Ava had her curls tied up into two pigtails, Jacksons’s hair sat in a mess on his head. They both had porcelain skin. Ava wore a red ruffled skirt with a black button up and a red bowtie, along with a pearl necklace and red ankle socks with black shoes. Jackson wore a white button up with red suspenders, black dress pants and a black tie and black dress shoes. “What little… cuties.” I mumbled. The twins cooed and giggled, their faces turning pink. I smiled a bit and let out a small giggled. The adults around us cooed and swooned. Suddenly my father cleared his throat. “They should get on the train now.” he grunted in his deep gruff voice. He had given up faking happiness a long time ago, unlike my mother with her plastic smile and hollow eyes.
Rose nodded and smiled, she kissed Calanthe and Dixon on the heads before shooing them towards the trains after Scorpius hugged them. I looked at my mother and father. I hadn’t received a kiss or hug from either of them in such a long time. My mother took a step towards me and soothed out my hair. “You will be an amazing witch, Selene.” she whispered. I smiled a bit and leaned into her hand. I missed the feeling of her hand on my head. The feeling of her flesh against mine. My father walked over and nodded. “We know it, Bugaboo.” I looked up at him. I suddenly saw more happiness than I had seen in ages. A sliver of joy. Of happiness. I couldn’t bare it anymore. I missed these people. My happy parents. The parents I had before Hades vanished.
I rushed forwards and wrapped my arms around them, clinging to them. I felt the pent up fear and sadness and dread from all the years release in a wave. My parents stood there before hugging me back. I felt their tears soak my hair and skin, my own tears soaking my mother’s nicest blouse and my father’s best blazer. “It’s time to go, Selene.” Susans spoke with a gentle voice. I only ever heard this voice when she was on the verge of crying. I pulled from my parents and we all wiped our tears looking at each other. I smiled, feeling young and happy again. I backed up, took my aunt’s hand and walked to the train with her. I hugged my aunt quickly before boarding the train, looking out the window of where I sat at my mother and father, holding onto each other tightly.
When had they last looked so young? The bags under my mother’s eyes were gone. My father’s eyes seemed so happy. They stood straight, holding onto each other. They looked as young as they did in their wedding picture. So happy… so young. I felt awful for feeling so happy. For being glad that my parents could forget my brother. Yet… it felt amazing. My brother’s absence burdened me more than ever now. However my parents were happier. They were saved from the burden. From the sorrow. That was good enough and this burden of sorrow becoming heavier was punishment enough.
